“People hate me because I’m 19 and think I’m a doe-eyed kid but I’m a political strategist for one of the biggest youth organizations in the country. This was almost like a gift from Matt Gaetz.”
Whew.
Rep. Matt Gaetz tried to body shame a 19-year-old abortion rights activist. In the 48 hours since,
@0liviajulianna
has raised over $168,000 for abortion funds.

Dallas now has a Police Chief who is a Black woman, a Sheriff who is a Black woman and a DA who is a Black man replacing a Black woman. Dallas County SHOULD be the most progressive law enforcement county in the country. Now is the time to apply pressure. We need abolitionists.
Dallas didn’t invest in the communities you see until Black people were removed from Freedman’s town and Latinx people were displaced from Little Mexico. Both of these communities were combined to form Uptown, and the rest is a new whitewashed gentrification history.
Dora Fontaine is putting her life and career on the line telling the truth about her fellow Chicago Police Department officers. CPD officers are calling her a rat, even though they encourage community members to tell all the time.
“It was a lie,” Chicago police officer Dora Fontaine said, referring to a statement that Laquan McDonald “raised his arm as if attacking Officer Jason Van Dyke” before the officer fatally shot the teenager 16 times.
It’s the best policy idea in years, besides giving people actual money. Both work & data says so. Giving police more money is the least innovative, least imaginative & least effective strategy a politician has to help people. You can’t stand for Equity & more police. Not possible
It was also a bad political idea that was supported by real people, many of whom protested outside my house late at night for weeks and showed up at city council meetings demanding I support it. It wasn’t just bad branding. It was a bad policy proposal that I rejected from Day 1.
“I don’t know...CPS suggest that the entire community of Englewood can go an entire year without access to a high school...What are you saying to the people there?...anybody with a HS kid has to think about what they’re going to do. It’s just a device to empty out the community”

I wasn’t talking “credibility”-which frankly, I don’t how to define nor do I really care about it. I was talking “cool,” a specific style of seemingly effortless, anti-establishment, unapologetic self-presentation that comes from jazz. Boyz II Men sang odes to their momma; Jodeci
Imagine if the
@CityOfDallas
decided to spend $4 billion dollars on Oak Cliff, South/Southern and West Dallas? It would transform the city. What a waste of money. This is not for Dallas residents. We hardly use the Convention center we have now.
Dallas City Council members approved a $4 billion plan to tear down the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center and build a new facility west of Lamar Street.
Dallas is one the worst cities for child poverty IN THE COUNTRY. It had the highest child poverty rate among big cities just a few years ago. More police can’t fix that. They can only make that number worse.
In 2018, healthy Black women are dying in the hospital during and after childbirth at alarming rates. This is an emergency and a direct result of racism.
All signs pointed to a healthy delivery. She never missed a prenatal visit, and received great reports each time. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Then her husband made a disturbing discovery:
Unpopular opinion: Parents are not equipped to customize education for their kids, and the state government definitely is not. That’s why we have public school systems in the first place. It’s someone’s actual job. Y’all saw what happened during the height of the quarantine.
I was asked to write this and I was emotional and angry. Tired, really. But I wanted to share my thought process when writing these 750+ words about the proximity of premature death/racism in Dallas and in this country. THREAD.
Just in time for Christmas:
The Legislative Council has sent draft language for a proposed law that would transfer control of the Austin Police Department to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
One way or another we will pass a law to keep Austin safe.
We gotta ask better questions. Why are people not engaged in this electoral system? What is stopping them from voting? Did people even know about the election? Did they know who to vote for? Why or why not? In places where voter turnout is higher, what is different?
The harsh truths are…this highway was designed with racist intent & constructed with a devastatingly racist impact. It needs to be torn down. However, if I-345 is torn down, Black people will not benefit directly from its destruction. There exists no policy to repair the breach.
How does America’s 9th largest city lower its violent crime, including murders, TWO YEARS IN A ROW, when crime is up in other big cities? Starts at the top with your mayor and police chief. My relationship with

I worked for a fatherhood program on the Southside of Chicago for 8 YEARS. Obama was wrong, and you are wrong. We can support fathers without repeating GOP rhetoric and supporting racist politicians. Please read about federal housing policy and fatherhood.
2 days ago I spoke on behalf of a Florida bill that supports dads & families and it offended some people. 14 yrs ago Pres Obama said the same things almost verbatim. I’m assuming people were outraged at him too. I am serving the Lord so I’ll keep supporting dads and families.🙏🏽🙏🏽
Black and Brown people relying on cars to get to work from their segregated communities to jobs in wealthier white segregated communities is a way to entrench racial segregation and poverty for another 50 years.

To keep Texas the best state in the nation, we can never forget WHY our state is so exceptional.
I signed a law establishing the 1836 project, which promotes patriotic education & ensures future generations understand TX values.
Together, we'll keep our rich history alive.
Been thinking a lot about how cities & their residents don’t respect Black spaces, Black people & Black people in Black spaces. Also how spaces that were created for & by Black people rarely have Black people in them at all anymore. This is Rev. Allen R. Griggs Park in Dallas, TX
Things like this make it difficult for the community to trust

Dallas lost one of our giants today. Dr. George Keaton, the founder of

I work closely with the people at Temple Emanu-El and they don’t deserve this. This antisemitism comes from a root that is often unaddressed in Dallas: the fallacy of white supremacy. Who at the
@CityOfDallas

A handful of neo-Nazis, including Ronald Murray and someone who looks a lot like another I recently identified named Barry Young, were spotted outside the Temple Emanu-el synagogue in Dallas.
I hope this is a signal to folks that these people hate all of us, that they are fighting a war against us, that if they get rid of DEI, they will get rid of everything else that is good for most of us, and that a radical political framework is necessary for your existence here.
All state-funded colleges and universities in Texas will have to close their diversity, equity and inclusion offices under a measure signed into law by Gov. Abbott.

One day, we will discuss the complete transfer of exploitative domestic labor from Black people to Mexican and Central American immigrants in Dallas over this period. White wealthy Dallas people once created community additions just for its Black domestic workers after slavery.
I have been YELLING about the behavior and actions of this party traitor for a long time, and people thought I was doing too much. We now have a right wing plant openly trying to undermine and destroy the work we have done to make this a more equitable city. We need him out now.
Anyone taking pictures with this person, supporting this person, or voting for this person is in opposition to justice, and is my new nemesis. Private or public.
Greg Abbot has officially directed Family and Protective Services to begin investigating all trans children in Texas and prosecuting their parents as child abusers.
He has also instructed all teachers, doctors, and caregivers to begin reporting any trans students they see.
Dallas is not a ‘world class city,’
@ChadWestDallas
. If a city is not walkable, bikeable and public transportation is poor, it ain’t no where near world class. 90% of the city is sidewalk-poor. The city’s culture is business so no tourism. The council has to invest in people.
People in Dallas can fix every large issue almost overnight if they cared and had the willpower to spend a little of their money. Very interesting place.
I actually got time today, and the Mayor of Dallas standing by markers of enslaved people without even a mention of the legacy of enslavement in Dallas, Texas pissed me off.
Here is a little thread about slavery in Dallas County 🧵
This is the work of
@RBDallasHistory
. I voted on these markers as part of the Dallas County Historical Commission. I actually sent that Jane Elkins marker back for revisions because it was missing vital information.
@CityOfDallas
has done little to address its legacy of slavery.
The world's tallest interactive fountain is coming to Dallas! It will feature a highly-reflective pool for people to enjoy and there will be a fireworks-like water show each evening.

I recently won this postcard of the lynching of Allen Brooks in an auction. This spectacle of white violence and depravity happened in downtown Dallas, TX (1910). I can not explain enough how rare this is, and how significant this event was to

I know some Preston Hollow cribs still have deed restrictions saying White people can’t sell their house to Black people, but anyone is welcome to purchase this for me, primarily for this library.

Texans: conserve your energy use! ERCOT is asking all consumers to turn up the thermostat to 78 degrees and take other steps to alleviate electric demand as supply could be outpaced this afternoon.
When 90% of registered voters are not voting, that is not the fault of potential voters. That means something is disastrously wrong with the institution, or it is working perfectly for a group of people who like it that way. Hold the system accountable, not users of the system.
