@HannahQuirk1 @TimNewburn @chrishanretty @Walker_Seb @OrmerodDavid @jdbild @JPinaSanchez Not something I specifically looked at in that 2018 review of the scheme in Crim LR but you could probably draw some general conclusions from it on these points. Would be pretty easy to work out the detail with the data though, of course.

@KarlTurnerMP @MAMBarLife @CrimeLineLaw @Barristerblog @RobertBuckland @attorneygeneral High volume of public referrals but many are not within the scheme. I didn’t do any analysis of % of referrals / increases from public Vs pros advocate but I imagine the latter would be high.

@MAMBarLife @KarlTurnerMP @CrimeLineLaw @Barristerblog @RobertBuckland @attorneygeneral The decisions are taken personally by AG or SG, on advice, so yes if they personally decide to refer a sentence, it’ll be considered by the court. Of course leave and increase to sentence are a matter for the court.

@jshmellor @SentencingAcad Isn't the concern that HHJ might feel pressure to keep remarks brief to ensure D has chance to have a post-hearing conference with counsel-thus, risking not complying with s.52 because they want to ensure D has the opportunity to receive immediate advice following sentencing?
