As someone who's been playing Standard a lot recently: I can't believe people actually like this combo. 12 is *so much mana*.
If you're able to spend turns 3 and 4 doing nothing, then pay 2 life on turn 5, AND dodge a disenchant or counterspell, you deserve to win.
Gonna go out on a limb here and predict Innkeeper's Talent will need a ban in Standard. The combo with Vraska is far too hard to interact with, and the 3-4-5 curve is really strong and requires just two cards. This combo will be legal for at least a year otherwise.

yep, i always try to force my p1p1 in the sense that once i pick a card p1p1 it is part of the context in which i'm drafting, and it will always influence what "staying open" looks like going forward.

I have a lot of thoughts on this thread, responding to a lot of different parts of it.
The TL;DR is: Magic has always had variance. Play boosters have slightly increased that variance in sealed, yes - but the amount that variance has been increased is extremely negligible.

If anything, I've been willing to outwork everyone. With Play Boosters introducing more variance, my prep matters less and less. To put it bluntly, this weekend was a massacre. I'm going to be taking some time off.

Feeling very paid off for the work I put in, both in limited and especially in constructed.

Random thought I was reminded of: people should challenge established thought more in Magic, instead of just assuming that someone else knows best.
Magic has many local optima that are far from globally optimal, so local optimization is not nearly as important as exploration.

Bumping this Nadu loop outline I made because there's some misinfo out there, including in the video quoted, about how to do the Canopy+Channel land loop.
If you don't know how to avoid the Four Horseman loop, save yourself and judges the trouble and register Thoracle.

Wotc should accomodate non-English-speaking players better. My opponent asked a judge whether he could get a visual view of my pool bc he couldn’t read English cardnames. There wasn’t a great solution so I just shuffled my deck into my pool (removing basics) and handed it to him.

I was watching the LEC coverage, and made the mistake of having Twitch chat open, and so saw people - including people trying to be allies! - arguing over whether the player with she/her was "pronoun trolling".
TL;DR: please do not do this. It's extremely anti-productive.

Hot take: printing fewer cards like this is not obviously good. WotC has already been doing a good job of making sure no commons are *truly* unplayable - I think I've played all but 1 or 2 of the commons in WOE? Especially in sealed, they contribute to strategic depth. (1/3)
Will be making a video on this later. In short, I'm a fan! I think this is a good thing, net positive, though not 100% upside.
One really nice thing is it means they have to print fewer common slot fillers like this one, more playable cards in packs is great!

Well.......... I just accidentally sided into a 41 card deck and cast Eldritch Pact for the first time today...... and it was lethal winning me my last match!
So... I guess I'm qualified for a high-level constructed tournament now? We'll see how that goes lol.

I understand that Innkeeper's Talent has other text too, but overall I've just never been afraid of this deck. The combo is interesting and an okay facet to add to a Golgari deck, but by no means is it "too hard to interact with" or at all worth a ban.

Okay to be clear bc some have misinterpreted:
I don't think there's a grand conspiracy or anything. In fact I appreciate a lot of the things coverage does; I loved the focus on Nicole! At most I'd suspect that coverage didn't want to air casters stumbling over my pronouns.

But in reality, while rares of course do matter, the truth is that the true outlier pools here just don't make up that much of the total. Having many rares doesn't matter if none of them are good, or if none of them are in supported colors.

There is so much *more* equity to be gained in building well, playing well, and sideboarding well. Sure, having a baseline more powerful pool is going to help, but really you'll only see a meaningful difference with the top 10% of decks at most.

This guide is very good, I agree with basically all points in it (except how good RIP is bc we teched for it more than Simon expected).
I love seeing people play my pet decks, but I also love seeing them beat up on my pet decks. Hi five from one overslime to another!
I was the Slogurk Guy on Handshake and after seeing the metagame breakdown I went to town and playtested our match-up to come up with a plan. It resulted in this 4-page guide I wrote for my teammates. And now I get to share it with all of you!

Murder resolves and kills Lilah, and then Lilah’s trigger resolves. Then Denial resolves, since it still has a legal target (but doesn’t do anything because the bear has nothing to fight) - so it goes into exile, plotted.
Lilah did not lose the fight and so stays undefeated.

First of all: sealed is by far the most maligned and misunderstood format in Magic.
People love pointing at differences in number of or quality of rares in a pool, and focusing on that as the most important metric for how good a pool is.

Majestic Metamorphosis is a pretty underrated card right now in SNC. It foes a lot of things, and is pretty comparable to Suit Up from NEO. But I suspect many people don’t quite realize just nhow many small things it does, so here are some lines you might’ve missed. 1/4

Everything from Arena pick orders and 17lands data being worse than usual, to the 100k feeling softer than I expected even day 2, to so many strong players doing well in events.

There is a reason why you see the same people over and over at the top of sealed tournaments. There is a reason why I played slaxx in the WOE 100k finals.
Sealed high variance, and play boosters increase that slightly, but there is still a huge amount of skill to express.

P.S. a big part of why I dislike BLB is because it feels like the structure of the set leaves less room to express skill in it. This isn't to say there is *no* skill to be had in BLB, and certainly has mostly nothing to do with Play Boosters - it's just not my favorite.

It's very easy to point at the things that directly killed you:
"Oh, my opponent had a bunch of rares. I was never beating that!"
But everything is beatable. Occasionally you lose w/o making any bad decisions, but there is way more room to gain equity than most realize.

Drafting the Hard Way is simply an outdated framework borne of outdated heuristics.
Specifically, it was meant for formats where not finding the right lane often led to trainwrecks - but in modern limited sets, the large number of playables means you rarely ever trainwreck.

You know what would be cool? An organized list somewhere of like when/where all the RCs and other big tournaments in the world are, and also melee and coverage links to all of them.
Would be even nicer if some central source *cough WotC cough* had this.

But people read so much into rares simply because they're what's visible! If you lose a game and want to figure out why, it's not always easy to find gameplay mistakes to point at. It's even harder to figure out if you built your pool poorly, in ways that led to your loss.

With all due respect, while it is true that this deck being this good involved some variance of my pod, I believe I navigated the draft much better than many would have and have a bunch of subtle decisions here that give me small points of equity that really matter.
