I can’t count the times I’ve turned up to a chaotic situation, we’ve all grabbed someone and we grab at least wrong person. Mistakes happen in the moment.

Hats off to these Officers.
Fighting someone in an enclosed space with a knife makes my palms sweaty just thinking about it.
When are we going to admit sending unarmed officers to knife calls is unsustainable? I’m tired of my colleagues getting hurt or nearly hurt.
On March 8, two of our Response officers were violently attacked by a knife-wielding man when responding to a report of a serious assault. Their attacker has just been jailed for six years, and with their permission we have released BWV of the incident. Viewer caution advised.

I’ve mentioned Met and being able to summon 3000 cops on demand.
Once, I was on foot patrol, it just so happened to be the jubilee. Whilst on patrol I accepted a call to a sus package, nothing out of the ordinary.

I honestly cannot recommend going on a ride along enough. Do it on a Saturday bank holiday night shift and see how short a response team is and see how many I grades are falling from the sky unanswered.
On bank holiday Friday we covered our sector with under 10 cops.

Level 2 serials as a standard should be kitted with NATOs on belt. It doesn’t look violent, it doesn’t look oppressive.

Within the blink of an eye, I have TSG, Level 2 serials, Level 3 serials, Response team, ARVs, Traffic, NPAS.
In a short orderly fashion we were able to clear the area and deal with the situation.
Now if this had happened in a smaller force, could they call on such resources?

I’m not going to share the footage but I can see clearly in the video the suspect was wearing a puffer jacket.
I would not feel confident challenging him even with a Taser +2 spare cartridges.

I just to praise the Inspector from Australia.
I think it’s hard to comprehend having the mental calmness to be on scene, hearing , women, children screaming. Seeing the attacker, drawing her side arm,having the adrenaline pumping in her veins.
Then dispatching the attacker.

The vibe I get from this video is, you are sat in the writing room doing admin, suddenly you hear the dredded ping that is the emer-activation.
The writing room collectively sprints to thecars in the yard and you suddenly have 5-10 cars screaming out of the yard.

Emergency Response officers on a ride a long. The scheme is open to everyone and is the most powerful learning experience. I always leave overwhelmed by what I have seen and learnt. It is almost impossible to put into words those 8+ hours.

Officers are human. Removing the ability to represent a charity supports families with of fallen officers is just a symptom of death by a thousand cuts, taking ‘unsafe’ mirrors out of locker rooms, saying you can’t wear a patch because someone.. might get upset.

Just to add to this, kids totally hear more than we think.
I remember a troubling week at work, decided to vent to the missus, unknown to me my daughter heard everything.
Hard to take when your 5 year old walks in and asks what being stabbed is.
Also be mindful kids see/hear more than we realise and much on the news is downbeat. I have the live news playing fairly constantly and remember my 15 yr old coming down and asking me to turn it off. When I queried why she said “I just can’t hear any more of this bad stuff mum”.

Don’t cry in custody because you say you wil lose your job without your licence. Don’t.
Doctors are calling for the drink-drive limit to be reduced to the equivalent of a small glass of wine or beer.

I’m really suspicious of this incident. The fact the CCTV has randomly appeared on Twitter. The victim says police on scene didn’t arrest? I find it very very hard to believe a clear assault on cctv was dropped unless the victim was unwilling.
