⚡️PERSONAL NEWS⚡️
The last week has been crazy.
I'm extremely honored to share my first
@washingtonpost
A1 with
@MariannaReports
&
@cdechalus
I'm also *VERY* excited to announce I'm the new data reporter
@BaltimoreBanner
where I'll be reporting on the best state in America!
✨personal news✨
I'm elated to announce I will be joining
@NPR
this summer to work as an intern on the
@planetmoney
team.
Planet Money was one of the first shows to demystify economics for me. It's one of the reasons I chose to major in econ.
Thrilled to be a part of it!
The Washington Post is thrilled to announce its second class of Academic Year Fellows with
@HowardU
and
@UofMaryland
. Two students from each school will join a 10-week program designed to help launch the next generation of journalists.
NEW:
@elliswonk
's car was stolen. So naturally he wrote a brilliant deep dive into car theft and the tiny piece of tech that has been instrumental in slashing motor vehicle theft rates around the world.
dataviz by me!
@DavidAFrench
it seems like you want a pat on the back for adopting a black kid but seem to be unable to discern valid concern at uprooting someone from their culture into a white conservative evangelical house from saying black people belong in the gas chamber. intellectual dishonesty.
@crissles
If it's strictly a dollars and cents argument I guess you could say it's pointless but large showings of public solidarity with labor are important. Amazon is only paying warehouse employees $15 an hour now (and JUST now that) because of social pressure from normal consumers.
hip hop is too giant and diffuse to just be considered one genre and a major reason music journalism is struggling so hard is almost no writers are equipped to write critically about all of it
Really proud that I was able to contribute to such an important story in my time as an intern at
@propublica
.
It was amazing to work with
@irenatfh
who is an absolute genius
New: Deputies in California’s Antelope Valley are disproportionately citing Black teens, often for minor infractions, like getting in fights or smoking. “They’re turning the principal’s office into the police station,” said one lawyer.
Today marks the end of a spectacular 10 weeks at
@propublica
Thank you so much to
@IBWellsSociety
for giving me the chance to step into the world of investigative journalism
Thank you to all the brilliant people on the data team and to my editors
@HannahFresques
and
@ryanngro
For years, Hyundai and Kia made cars easy enough to steal to spur a nationwide auto theft crisis.
Now, Baltimore is joining a group of more than a dozen cities suing the car manufacturers.
Will it work?
@Dylan_Segelbaum
on the case.
No Jeff bezos has billions because amazon is a monopsony with horrible business practices that treats their workers like shit
Blaming individuals for institutional rot is dumb. How are you gonna tell someone not to buy diapers off amazon if that's the cheapest option for them?
@crissles
As is their prerogative, but I don't think it's as simple a direct trade off in people's lives as it is for their accounting department. Just about doubling the amount of real spendable income people have per check is a big deal imo.
NEW: Crime TOO OFTEN makes Baltimore a punching bag around the table at Thanksgiving.
But it hasn't been all bad this year.
I got you covered with some stats to get your "well-meaning" family members off your back.
Read in
@BaltimoreBanner
.
Losing respect for somebody is interesting cause the question of "what happened" is as much about looking back at your personal growth as picking up the pieces from whatever the catalyzing thing was
Black people, who make of just 26% of Jefferson Parish's population, account for 73% of cover charge only arrests.
Compare this level of overrepresentation to what the Justice Department found in New Orleans and Ferguson.
New: Police can arrest people for “cover charges,” like resisting arrest, to justify their use of excessive force and shield themselves from liability. In Jefferson Parish, 73% of the time someone is arrested on a “cover charge” alone, they’re Black.
Thank you 🖤🖤🖤
@IBWellsSociety
changed my life last year by giving me an opportunity to work at
@propublica
Amazing organization. Don't know where I'd be without the training and support I've had access to through IBWS.
Our final summer interns will be working at
@propublica
! Welcome
@amichelej
, a recent
@MedillSchool
grad, who will be the engagement intern and
@Invisibae
, a rising senior
@HowardU
, will be the data intern. They start next week! Learn more about them here
NEW!:
It's hot economist summer at
@planetmoney
Summer School!
Wrote about our econ songs of the summer
and co-produced a wonderful conversation between
@svaneksmith
and Princeton economist
@AtifRMian
for Planet Money+
A new round of testing data is bringing Maryland public schools' successes and challenges into sharper focus.
English proficiency has come roaring back.
Math is still a struggle.
My first for

@kris10griffith
Awful. I’m gutted for people who will never even have a chance to apply. This was one of the best opportunities for early career people to cover something they were really passionate about.
🚨 My goodness. Facing budget shortfalls,
@npr
just announced it will cancel the Summer 2023 internship program. This makes me truly sad. I may be wrong but I don't recall this happening in my nearly 30 years.
@NPRinterns
are part of NPR's lifeblood & a pipeline of great talent.
While Maryland’s cannabis reform bill makes a comprehensive effort to reduce the risk for banks, there’s little it can do to address the question: Why are so many cannabis transactions conducted in cash?
We have failed black women so bad as a society man that shit really makes me feel ashamed knowing how many people walk around every day never feeling safe
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 as the symbolic end of slavery, 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today we celebrate and commit to the promise and continual pursuit of true freedom for ALL 🎆🎉✨💫

I'll be providing updates from the state house for

The 2023 O's were historically clutch. This year's team led MLB in:
-
@fangraphs
batting clutch
- BA, SLG, and OPS with RISP
- Wins in 1-run games
I dove into the numbers and what they mean for the playoffs in
