Ants do bury their dead, away from the colony, but it’s usually in earth. Why flower petals is a bit of a mystery. It’s fun to speculate that they are covering the scent or sterilizing a the corpses, but we still don’t really know.

One more. Ants aren’t just related to wasps, they ARE wasps. They are a clade of highly eusocial, mostly fossorial wasps. Much like termites are just highly eusocial, mostly fossorial cockroaches. That might be a story for another day, but mantises are involved 😉
