Funny what I find searching old hard disks for something different... Concept 2004 BPB’s record-breaking launched coaster that sadly never happened. BTW, the drop would have been a much higher version of what Hyperia does today, 180 degree inside twist. Should I open my archives?

Colossus is a great example of immersive attraction creativity, with area development and queue that weaves through the ride area. Although changed slightly since opening, the presentation and landscaping are still on point. Reactivating the water feature would be perfect 👌🏻

Credit for keeping the beast alive, but disappointed at the lack of waterfalls. Inverted coasters are best with leg-dangling near-misses, especially water. Waterfalls aren’t difficult and in this case, were a compelling feature from opening. Massive missed opportunity 😔

RAP confuses me. Watched a group of enthusiasts (YouTubers) use RAP at TPR, avoid a 40 min wait. At ride close, same grp waited for Q close, entering main Q just before, queued 30 mins for last ride. If you can queue, you should queue, right? Don’t like to Q? purchase fastrack.

Hyperia, Thorpe Parks new coaster, and now the uk’s tallest. It’s a good ride, but overrated. It should have been so much more - creatively weak with the queue lacking imagination, as does the general area development & presentation. Saving grace was excellent ops.

A 15 hour flight from Malaysia is absolutely worth it when

Really enjoyed the Curse of Alton Manor. It’s a well-executed refresh of the Haunted House, with a great mix of digital and physical effects, audio, and storytelling. Gone are the awful blasters and senseless targets, making it a very re-rideable attraction ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

8 years ago today, July 3rd 2016, inside the show building for the awesome Madagascar Mad Pursuit, a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster at Motiongate Dubai. This ride turned out to be pretty good with its fast launch and twisted layout. Lap-bar RV’s certainly helped!

30 yrs today, long before social media and www, I was at the opening for Nemesis, Alton Towers, arguably one of the best B&M inverts. 30 yrs later (and well over 1k coasters ridden), I’m at an FEC in the Philippines, riding a coaster! As much as I ❤️Asia, today wish I was at ATR!

Retaining this plaque commemorating the work Dennis Bagshaw undertook to restore the Alton Towers Gardens is an insult to his legacy. The current state of the gardens is awful to say the least. Barron, unkept, overgrown and neglected. They are Grade 1 listed. How can this be?

Back in action! After an unplanned period of downtime, our 8km long (world’s longest!) cable car is once again taking guests. I’ve missed the stunning 20 minute ride from An Thoi to Hon Thom Island, office to office!

Scheduled maintenance on our Awana Skyway cable car offers an opportunity to ride on our older (rarely used!) Gohtong Jaya system. Evenings like this make me think I should open it more often ❤️

The Ballroom. This was under my portfolio when I was Head of Ops at The Blackpool Tower. An incredible venue, rich in history, but also tricky to commercialize due to its impractical back of house, aging infrastructure and difficult access logistics. Strictly was a blast!!

My daily commute. No traffic jam. No delays. 118 gondolas on a 2.4km line. 3 stations and up to 6m’s second with 99.98% reliability. I’ll take this over a car ride any day!

Let’s be truly honest here, no modern-day rollercoaster should require the additional weight loading for day-to-day pre-opening test runs, with or without wind conditions.
You can’t blame Thorpe for that, and you can’t blame them for not testing with water dummies.

Venus GP. Bucket list coaster for me, ever since it was originally at Space World, Japan, in the mid-90’s. Now at its new home, Himeji Central Park, outside of Osaka. Super large loop, intense turns and all the characteristics of a 90’s Stengel design. Love it!

Welcome to my world! Logistics, limited supplies and pricing fluctuations are a massive problem for all in the industry. Even lead times on spares have gone from 6 weeks to 6 months. Next time a ride is closed or a project delayed, it’s likely no fault of the park or vendor.

Taking the other cable car to work this morning. I actually prefer the route of the Genting Skyway - 20 minutes of peaceful (not that a jungle is quiet!) ride up the mountain and through the rainforest. I’ll take this over the E11 or M55 anytime!

Fun fact: Andromeda Base retains about 90% of the original theming. AvP related IP was either destroyed, modified or coveted over. Right where this video is taken, the oculus remains behind the tunnel, almost as it was intended, but where was this?

In the mid 90’s, and when I was fortunate enough to be a very regular visitor to BPB, most evenings were twilight thrills. Rides would run until the last £ was no longer left in guest pockets. Those were the days ❤️

Disney never ‘killed an entire theme park’. To the contrary. They supported the repositioning of the park, played an active interest in pre-opening readiness and particularly for me, were a solid companion at what was at times, a challenging project. The Disney team were great 👍🏻

That’s a shame, but out of your control. Maybe focus attention on Valhalla facade and using a mixture of projection mapping, lighting & smaller fireworks, create a stunning visual experience. Perfect viewing from within BPB & less susceptible to weather. Could look amazing!

The Gardens always were, and still could be, a major asset to the Theme Park. This looks like a step in the right direction. Next step is to restore their elegance to that of the 80’s and 90’s when AT genuinely offered something for all ages.
The Alton Towers Gardens look absolutely BEAUTIFUL this evening! The new Garden Lights Walk is absolutely wonderful and has a certain magic about it!

I enjoyed working there. The original entertainment offering, including the full production show in the Raj Mahal, was excellent. That said, we all knew its days were numbered when the guest volume didn’t materialize. Sad for the everyone involved. It was beautiful at night.

If you get the chance to visit OLC’s parks, assuming you haven’t by the context of your post, hopefully you realise why these parks are so special. It’s not just the expense in detail, it’s the culture, particularly the Japanese, that underlines the magic. You won’t get in USA

Remember it well. Motiongate Dubai was the last of the dry parks to open (and the best 😉), although we still had Dreamworks to launch, which came online a little bit later. Happy memories with an incredible opening team.

I should share the designs Dynamic Attractions conceptualized for their take on the drop track for the SFX coaster. It was like looking at an oil rig! Over-engineered and very unworkable solution to what is a relatively basic concept. I knew then we were in trouble…!

Reserve visit date in advance. Limit number of RAP’s available each day. Automate system through app (linked to posted ride queue time) and effectively manage return times. If this isn’t sufficent for a RAP user, they still have the option for paid fastrack.
