Subzero, the most magnificent horse of all, has died at the remarkable age of 32. He touched more hearts and simply did more good than what most people could comprehend, let alone try to replicate. Now peacefully with his best mate Graham Salisbury once again. Legend.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hartnell is just an old school star trained in a way that we don’t often see anymore. 1400m to 3200m, he just gives his all. Ripping horse. You’d love a stable full like him.

There is a reason why Hartnell has captured the imagination of many in racing. He is just a bloody good horse. Whether a 1400m weight for age race, a 2000m set weights and penalties race or a 3200m handicap, he gives his all and runs well. He is just a bloody ripper.

As a confident out gay man, I’m pretty happy with life and deal with most things easily. Homophobia still exists, I see it almost every day. Especially in sport and racing. And many people still turn a blind eye to it. That is why visibility matters.

I think every Australian cricket fan of my age group idolised Dean Jones as a player during the 80s & early 90s. He was just a phenomenal batsman, fielder and even occasional slow bowler. Proper flair, a true trendsetter. Utterly brilliant to watch. So sad to hear of his passing.
