@YIMBYLAND We need to make steel here, and give people living in inner city slums good working class union jobs. Make the Rust Belt the Steel Belt again!

@YIMBYLAND @FDRLST I don't get why so many Conservatives have this frothing hatred of cities. Between the great working class defection to Trump and the incompetence of the Democratic party establishment, cities are Conservatism's biggest growth opportunity now.

@YIMBYLAND Our great cities were built on industry, and declined when that industry was shipped off to China. Say what you will about the rest of Trump's policies, but his push to bring out industry back home, to again employ our urban working class, should the cause of every urbanist.

Reminds me of a story from Mariupol, Ukraine. The city had a large Soviet-era plant named "Illich Steel Mill" (Illich was Lenin's middle name). In the 2010's the Ukrainian government banned naming places after Communist figures, so management "renamed" the mill for an obscure 19th century scientist named Illich. People then started calling it the "Not-That-Illich Steel Mill".

@emilyreadey Regarding the quoted post...why do I get the feeling that the "manosphere" is going to produce an out-and-out homosexual subculture within a few years...

This guy is a Calvinist. Babies are born with a propensity to commit sin, which will lead them to do so as they grow older, but haven't yet committed any actual sin they could be held to account for. The doctrine of original sin is not saying that everyone is evil, just that everyone is imperfect.

@cameron19460429 This dude needs to read like, one history of Latin America. Or Egypt. Or Central Asia. Or like, anywhere outside Northern Europe or North America. The black/white divide persisting despite both living in the same place for 400 years is what's really "abnormal".

@xmuse_ Hideous. The giant glass slab not only looks fugly as soon n, it clashes with the very pretty building beneath it.

I don't know about Canada, but state and local officials in the US make international trips sometimes and directly negotiate with foreign companies about investing in their state/city. Also, Canada will almost certainly call an election when parliament reconvenes in March and the overwhelming favorite to win that election is Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who was born in Alberta

@TheCriticalDri2 Hmm...quick math shows that, if her claim is accurate, she spent about 40 seconds with each man. This has got to be the most unerotic sex I can think of.

@claudes24060374 @buccocapital Didn't like any of the Craig movies. Bond is supposed to be fun, not a super-serious tortured generic action hero.

@HassounMazen Unpopular opinion: the Arab Spring rapid-elections-and-constitution approach largely failed. That Sharaa is doing something different is not necessarily a bad thing.
