I’ve said this before and I will say it again. You can, and people do, make strong arguments against what hockey analytics suggest.
The issue is that many of the arguments typically made are not very good or rational arguments.
@DallasStars
Good! How else we know you love America unless we play the we love America song. After all I thought this was America. When one American team plays another American team, America needs to show support to America.
People think analytics is about skill over grit.
No it’s substance over style. Give me good player who is gritty over skilled that gets out shot, our chanced, and out scored.
Good is good; bad is bad. Don’t matter how. Revolutionary really.
The
@NHLJets
are in New York to play the Rangers.
@UtilityVoice
and I go over:
✅ The loss in Tampa
✅ Facing Andrew Copp for 1st time since trade
✅ Logan Stanley

Listening to "Fly By 041922 - WPG @ NYR" at
Since the Jets put Nikolaj Ehlers on the top line full time they've outscored opponents 17-3 with him on the ice at 5v5 and he's 5th in the league in 5v5 scoring
Colorado was the *worst* team in the league by a healthy margin 5 years ago.
Now they're this.
Never underestimate the power of a proper plan and elite pro scouting.
This isn't something unique. Don Cherry always had xenophobic, jingoistic undertones. He's a rich, privileged, old man pretending to be a blue collar guy. He's a climate change denier. He forced his team to skip import draft.
He isn't even a good hockey guy and failed in the OHL.
Faced with a shortage of workers, a small army of seniors in Sechelt is volunteering to cover shifts at restaurants and other small businesses, rather than see them close their doors because of a lack of workers.
@Aaron_GlobalBC
reports.
Props to the Colorado Avalanche analytics group, video coaches, and bench coaches.
Jets were the top 5v5 team by goal differential and a top 10 team in shot metrics… yet Colardo has made the Jets look like they are a team tanking for a lottery pick over about 4.75 games.
Reminder:
Most models suggest McDavid has impacted his team’s win differential more than any other player since entering the league.
After that, it’s Hellebuyck.
You'd think a former enforcer like
@jamalmayers
would actually be against Hartman since Dillon followed "the code" and fought after his cross check, and on top of it Lowry fought at the start of the second game before Hartman's cheep shot.
Shame on
@StLouisBlues
and
@enterprise
for putting an advertising flag as part of the color guard accompanying the national anthem prior to last night's Stanley Cup game. A nauseating spectacle. We need to push back against this type of ad encroachment. (h/t

Analytics are there to help inform decision makers. The coaches and the GMs. I don’t think most analytics are helpful to players other than to inform areas that may need improvement, but then you are moving to coaches to implement that improvement anyways.
PLD essentially said that analytics are nice from above, but when you're on the ice, it's not so easy. Can't just tell someone to change something and it happens based on an equation. Hockey happens in the heat of the moment. Decisions happen in milliseconds.
Can we talk about Kylington being trusted on a good team to play top 4 mins and how he’s ran away with it.
He’s been so good… and he went through waivers last year!!!
30 NHL teams could have had a free, young, top 4 dman…
@JimmyDunks
@EdmontonOilers
Ok. WAR states nurse is 33%. The best most complete NHL defenseman Victor Hedman clocks in at 46%.. while Chris Tanev.. yes you are reading that right is 97%…. Sick metric
No line-up changes for the
#NHLJets
.
Stastny-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Dubois-Svechnikov
Copp-Lowry-Ehlers
Harkins-Toninato-Vesalainen
Morrissey-Schmidt
Dillon-Pionk
Stanley-Schmidt
Stat folks: Hedman normally puts up elite results, but this year he did not and wasn’t even given tough minutes by coach
Eye test folks: he’s the best, stats are dumb
*turns out Hedman played most of season injured and was not normal self*
Wow eye test really is always superior
Dreger on Insider Trading: “Jarmo Kekäläinen GM of the

is willing to listen on a couple of big name guys like Patrik Laine and Ivan Provorov and there are others”
All three of Morrissey, Samberg, and Heinola have to be playing next year. That’s got to be the
#NHLJets
3LHD.
DeMelo fits with anyone.
So that means one or more of Schmidt, Dillon, and Pionk got to go.
Stanley is a fine 7D.
Dim also forgot height and weight, and also a very important category that drives a lot of these: how good they were 3-5 years ago... Fox wasn’t even in the NHL!
In not-actually-meaningful-fancy-stats fancy stats:
Edmonton (2nd) is the
#NHL
's only remaining team of the top eight largest defensive teams in the playoffs. All 7 of the other top 8 in size on the blue line have been eliminated.
The remaining:
DAL (9th)
FLA (14th)
NYR (15th)
Everyone talks about the NYR success comes from having the best goalie this season, which is true… But they
1) legit have been solid 5v5 since deadline
2) are a top 5 PP and top 10 SH team all season
I think moving Copp was a good move. BUT I think bad decisions led to making moving Copp unfortunately necessary.
I don’t think Copp is some missed superstar. BUT I think he’s shown the
#NHLJets
could have used their depth better with top9 scoring lines instead of 3rd checking.
I find it hilarious that fans of the first and second place
#NHL
teams (
#NHLJets
and
#canucks
) are all like “we need to add someone to win face offs”…
You are first and second place while being crap at face offs. Maybe it’s not a big deal after all!*
@Account4hockey
Again I remind everyone that in Jr Lemieux got traded away for futures by a contending team (and buying/selling is more extreme in Jr than NHL) because his team hated him.
.
@BDillon04
knowing he single handily ended the Connor/Ehlers debate, brought peace between Twitter factions, and the
#NHLJets
fans are ready to focus on the playoffs.
PLD, like most Quebecois hockey players, had a dream, a dream that he will actually live, to grow up and play in the NHL for a team in a warm city in the USA.
Connor McDavid's seventh season, him and Draisaitl on 135 point paces, and the Oilers are a coin flip to make the playoffs at New Years. Seems like a bit of an issue
Conservative leader
