Billy Bowling captured this amazing video of what appears to be a tornado in Greeneville TN on Monday afternoon just before 2:15. FirstWARN was on the air covering the storms. It will be up to the National Weather Service in Morristown to survey any damage.

Whitesburg Flooding: Here is our first look from the air of the devastating flooding in the Whitesburg area of Letcher County Kentucky. A rare Flash Flood Emergency was in effect for the area overnight. Stay with us for the latest updates on this developing situation.

Supercell thunderstorms are starting to develop across East TN. Some of these could produce damaging winds and a quick spin-up tornado. We will be LIVE if warnings are needed.
Winter Storm Impacts: A Winter Storm set to impact the area on Super Bowl Sunday could bring freezing rain, rain, snow, and/or sleet to parts of the area. Forecast details below.
TORNADO CONFIRMED — An EF 1 tornado touched down in Duffield VA on Tuesday evening just after 5:30. The National Weather Service says the tornado was only on the ground for 0.5 mile on the ridge line near HWY 23. Here are some damage pictures from our own Logan Hamilton.
These pictures were taken along I-81 near Exit 3 and 7 in Bristol Virginia as I-81 is becoming snow covered! Use extreme caution on the roads. DO NOT TRAVEL unless necessary.

Here is a closer look at the risk of severe weather for Tuesday in the region. The whole area is in the level 2/5 slight risk for severe weather with all hazards possible. Damaging winds and large hail is the main threats, but isolated tornadoes are possible across the region.
A Weather Alert Day has been issued for Thursday and Friday for the potential of snowfall that could accumulate and cause hazardous road conditions Thursday afternoon and evening along with very frigid temperatures Friday. Make sure to stay tuned to forecast updates.
Today’s Mendota Wildfire in Russell County. The wildfire has burned 116 acres and is 50% contained as of 4:50 PM on November 9th.

Winter STORM - A Winter Storm is approaching the Tri-Cities and the latest data has increased snowfall accumulations to possibly 6-8 inches across parts of the region. Snow starts overnight tonight and last through early Tuesday.
Some mountain / SWVA snow showers and valley flurries are possible from late Sunday morning through Monday morning. A Winter Storm WARNING has been issued for the mountains of ETN. Winter Weather Advisories could be needed for parts of WNC and SWVA. Stay tuned for updates.
While the Tri-Cities continues to see one snow band right now there is more in Eastern Kentucky heading into SWVA and if these stay on their current track Bristol could once again see a heavy burst of snow. This one could last a little longer as it appears to be a "snow streamer"
** SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE FROM THE FIRSTWARN TRI-CITIES TEAM **
Severe storms continue to look likely Monday. We have bumped the tornado risk up to a medium as we are looking at the potential for supercells to develop across our area from very late morning through the afternoon.
We are watching the potential for snow, some moderate to heavy at times, to affect the Tri-Cities through the overnight. Some minor accumulation up to an inch is possible. Stick with us for updates.
Rain will change to snow Friday night and early Saturday morning. 1-2 inches of snow is possible across SWVA, EKY, and the mountains of TN/NC. Most of the rest of the area will receive no accumulation, but locally up to an inch could be possible if you see a heavy snow band. 1/2
BREAKING UPDATE - Dickenson County EMA Director Larry Barton tells FirstWARN Tri-Cities 3 homes have been evacuated with more on standby to evacuate. FirstWARN Tri-Cities Billy Bowling is on his way to the area and we will have updates through the evening.

A dangerous severe weather day is ahead. The Tri-Cities is in a RARE level 4/5 MODERATE risk for severe weather. Damaging winds up to 75 + MPH are the main threat, large hail and a few tornadoes are possible. Stay with us for future updates.
SNOW RUMORS - The rumors of snow are spreading on social media for next week. As of right now, we are watching the potential of colder air to move in early next week. The question mark is if that colder air will arrive when the moisture is present. 1/2

Thousands are without power across the area as strong storms swept across the region. Sullivan and Scott County has the most report of power outages at this time. Reports also indicate that Holston Valley Medical Center is without power and backup generators have failed. 1/2
Tomorrow morning to mid afternoon a line of showers and thunderstorms will be moving through the region. Some of these storms could contain some gusty winds. The SPC has put most of the area in a level 1 risk of severe weather. Gusty winds will be the main threat.
Flash Flooding will be one of our main threats with the shower and thunderstorm activity tomorrow. Areas northwest of I-81 have the best chance of seeing flash flooding. Remember turn around and don't drown
As we get closer to the evening commute, snow continues to move in. Take it slow on the roads this evening. This could start as rain in the valleys before quickly changing to snow.
CONFIRMED TORNADO -- A tornado was confirmed in Avery County NC and touchdowned at 12:56 AM this morning. It was an EF-1 tornado with winds of 105 MPH and was on the ground for almost 3 miles. This was the storm that prompted Tornado Warnings for ETN and WNC.
The ground is saturated leading to increased risk for tree damage and power outages tomorrow even in the valleys that could disrupt your day. Stay with us for updates.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for our region valid late tonight through tomorrow. A cold front will move into the region with rain rapidly changing over to snow tonight. 1/2
Thursday Weather Story -- THREAD
Mountain Wave Winds - A High Wind WARNING is in effect until 4 PM Thursday for the mountains of East Tennessee. Sustained winds of 40 to 50 mph are expected along with wind gust up to 75 mph. Wind damage and power outages are possible. 1/3
Snow showers are possible area wide tomorrow after 11 AM and continuing through the evening. The valleys of the Tri-Cities could see a trace to locally an inch, SWVA should see on average 0.5 - 2 inches. More information in the graphic below.
Here is the latest at what we expect timing wise for severe storms this evening. It will not storm the whole time, but this is the window of severe weather for our region. Stay updated and we will have the new SPC outlook at 12:30.

The enhanced level 3/5 risk of severe storms has now been expanded to include our entire viewing area. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are possible Monday. Stay with FirstWARN Tri-Cities for the latest severe storm updates.
Wind Chill Advisories and Wind Chill Warnings are in effect until 10 AM Sunday for the area. Wind chills of -5 (valley) to -15 (mountains) are possible.
Friday Night means High School Football!! It’s the first week of the playoffs in Northeast Tennessee and the final week of the regular season in Southwest Virginia. Make sure to take a jacket to any games tonight as it will be a chilly one. Luckily the rain gear won’t be needed.
Main roads are quickly getting snow covered as heavy snow is impacting the region, especially around Bristol. It appears bridges and overpasses are seeing the worst. DO NOT TRAVEL unless absolutely necessary!

The overpass at Exit 1 in Bristol is snow covered. It also looks like the on ramp has snow on it as well, maybe even Gate City Highway off the overpass towards the casino. Do not travel tonight unless absolutely needed.

In the blue circle 3.3 inches of rain has fallen radar indicated that is heading toward our region be aware on your morning commute for some flooding definitely in those low lying areas
Tuesday is a good day to stay tuned to the weather. Most of the area is in a slight risk of severe weather with parts of Leslie County in an enhanced risk. Stay tuned as we get more data this evening we will understand the risk better.
