I will be sharing videos posted by journalists in Gaza this morning who have witnessed what looks to be one the bloodiest scenes at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

The scale of destruction is staggering. Witnesses say between 30-40 homes were demolished.
Helplessness, desperation, the sense of abandonment in Afghanistan right now. So many messages tonight especially from young women pleading for help, afraid of what the future holds should the Taliban come back to power.

Desperate calls from Drs at Al Shifa Hospital this morning which is surrounded. They are reporting
- Snipers are shooting anything that moves
- 40 civilians in intensive care will likely die without power
- 1 baby in NICU has died
- 100s bodies piled up

Hi
@Idlibie
, I'm the daughter of two shockingly uncivilised brown Iraqi and Syrian parents who decided to defy dictators and seek refuge in the UK 30yrs ago. And I couldn't be more proud to share just that.
The hospital has been threatened numerous times by the Israeli Army.
Doctors repeatedly said they would not leave critically ill patients behind.
In addition, thousands of displaced families have been living in the grounds of Al-Shifa, believing they would not be targeted.
🚨Cats out the bag, I'm thrilled to say that I join

Here we are. Fake accounts like these in what already is an extremely sensitive and tense situation have the potential to lead to real harm in conflict zones.

Fascinating, untold story of how one unassuming Iraqi town defeated the so-called Islamic State in the heart of Anbar. Even with huge losses, they stayed unified and defiant. Another extraordinary story via

Wael Dahdouh's report was translated from Arabic for
@AJEnglish
.
Wael is just one of the handful of reporters on the ground in Gaza filing reports for TV broadcast. This report is harrowing.
And as
@SaulStaniforth
mentioned this is 2 weeks after his family was killed.
Wael Dahdouh speaking to people in the Al Shati refugee camp, which was bombed by Israel yesterday.
And as you watch it, remember that 2 weeks ago the journalists own wife and children were bombed & killed by Israel.
*distressing details*
You may have heard yesterday was the last official day at Twitter for many UK colleagues, including myself.

Still a big ❓ about what's next for me. I'm taking this time to have great conversations and figure out the best fit for me, my family and my long-term goals.
🧵 Al Shifa Hospital:
In the past weeks, I've closely followed the Israeli Army's claims of Hamas's presence at Al Shifa Hospital.
I've also been gathering accounts from doctors and staff, including the latest claims of fuel delivery to the hospital from Israel.
The BBC now clarifying why the Gaza Health Ministry figures tend to be accurate.
Very tempted to go back over BBC coverage to see how many times Israeli officials claimed otherwise and went unchallenged during broadcasts.
For everyone who says you can't trust the numbers of Palestinians killed because they come from the Gazan ministry of Health (which is controlled by Hamas), here's BBC reporter Paul Adams:

It seems I've inadvertently caused a flag flutter because I forgot to add some flags to a very long list of MENA countries. So adding now 🇮🇱 🇹🇷 🇩🇯. Not intentional and hope not to cause any more offence but can't seem to find Oman in the emojis list!
Reports of a 'massacre' are now in Jabalia district in north Gaza. There are lots of numbers floating around claiming the count of those killed/injured. It's hard to verify any figures, but the footage shows many bodies being pulled out of rubble.
A real sense of panic and desperation as many Palestinians with family in Gaza are also reporting losing contact with family members.
This is amid an intensive bombardment on the city tonight as seen via live satellite cameras.
Telephone and internet communications with

appear to have been shut off. We are currently unable to get in touch with any of our colleagues there, while heavy bombardment has been reported.
I've recently had kind feedback from colleagues about driving impact and pushing results.
Usually, I'd be reluctant to acknowledge this, let alone tweet, BUT here I am, finally shaking off some imposter syndrome & owning my learnings.
So here's a 🧵on driving impact as a Woman.
No Curation team, no moments. But also no explainers, no dis/misinfo debunks, no contextualization, no style guides, and no on-Twitter coverage of the biggest conversations.
RIP to helping users find and enjoy the best of Twitter.
Not all moments last. As of today we’re removing the option to create Moments for most users as we focus on improving other experiences.
Don’t worry, you can still see past Moments and follow Live events on Twitter.

Shelling took place early this morning in the out-patient Shifa courtyard. Displaced families had taken shelter there. Reports are that many people were still sleeping when it happened.
Chaotic scenes.
The man in the clip describes scenes of "a new massacre." he goes on to say. "we are talking of nearly 30 to 40 homes demolished" and "there are bodies everywhere" with "dozen of martyrs."

As you might have read, Twitter’s Curation team - which I led - was disbanded last week. 🧵
The multilingual team, located in 9 cities, provided content intelligence for ML-driven products, trends context and highlighted credible content when Twitter really needed it.
The story of Reem and her grandfather leaves you with such heartache.
The footage of the grandfather kissing Reem's eyes and calling her 'soul of my soul' went viral across SM because it depicted his deep pain, deep love and disbelief in moments of beautiful tenderness and calm.
The irony is that Twitter for many is and been the most reliable source of info compared to other social platforms. It's never been perfect, but there is a reason it's the preferred platform of choice for officials, journalists, and academic or professional experts.
@im_PULSE
I can't thank you enough for doing this. I could see this a mile off. Ive been publicly critical of those who use this map over on Instagram and now I've got more to add.
I dropped by a neighbour's house to wish her Eid Mubarak. She insisted I stay for a coffee and Eid treats. Then she insisted I leave with the whole tray of goodies. Before I knew it, the tray was wrapped in foil and now resides on my desk. There is no escaping Eid hospitality ❤
This whole thing is absurd in many ways. Yet it also distracts from the policy itself. Now we talk about what a football presenter has tweeted rather than the clearly cruel and unlawful policy which again chips away at fundamental intl human rights.
Twitter has been instrumental throughout my career. I closely watched the platform evolve & innovate. To end up working at Twitter was a privilege.
What I didn't quite anticipate was just how at home I would feel here.
Twitter won't die, but its true soul has.

the AJA correspondent evacuating North Gaza today. Most of his family were killed earlier this month in an Israeli strike.
Much of Northern Gaza will now go dark. The news will be reliant on Israeli forces in that region or journalists invited on press tours
This is heartbreaking on so many levels..
when I was in Gaza I asked Wael if he ever thinks about retiring in another country and he answered: this is my land, there is no meaning for safety if you are not in your land.
Wael is originally from Gaza, his family has lands. And
The Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in Gaza, the only cancer treatment centre, has been repeatedly subjected to bombardments for the last 48 hours and has today announced that it has had to stop services due to a lack of fuel - according to the director of the hospital.
Channel 13 journalist Tzvi Yechezkeli, confirms that it was an IDF strike that killed the family of Al-Jazeera’s chief correspondent in Gaza, killing his wife, son, daughter & others.
Wael Al-Dahdouh has been one of the most prominent voices covering the war between Israel&Hamas

I've been approached to lend my expertise to a few projects recently and some enquires have come directly from this platform.

What is happening to Twitter is honestly heartbreaking. The company, culture, and product were built on groundbreaking principles and policies. Other companies are still catching up to replicate.
Very sad to witness its unraveling.

❤️and having her examine my outfit and add that I have 'effortless style' is one of the reasons I miss offices -- yes, totally for fashion chat. I defo don't get complaints like that from my 6-yr old.
Sad to hear of Jamal Edwards passing. Even when he was a boy with a camera he always had big dreams and saw himself an entrepreneur. I remember him always saying 'if you don't go get it someone else will'. RIP
The accurate translation for this is "400 killed and wounded". It is a tally of both killed and injured.
The last time, a tweet not dissimilar to this led to headlines of "500 killed", which was inaccurate.

As we see week in and week out, Twitter is indispensable for breaking news. Some amazing research here on Twitter + our news partners from our MI&A team:
I love watching these dances. My parents used to have a VHS of old music from the gulf and it mesmerised me.
What always struck me was the very colourful 'sari-like' outfits the women wore. Very different to the all-black abayas so often associated with the region.

So let me get this straight. We are experiencing a global climate catastrophe but some of the worlds richest men are racing to space, footballers are targets of establishment for being too 'popular', govt doesn't rate over 80s & women still have fight to dress decently in sports.
