Here goes! This time last year my husband of six months & partner of 9 years said he wanted out. I was, predictably, a total mess. BUT said mess taught me very important lessons about marriage, divorce, financial independence etc 1/2
Oh and there’s also a doubling of something odd called ‘scromiting’. That’s screaming and vomiting which lasts for weeks on end, with no treatment. A result of long term use of high potency cannabis.
@NellFrizzell
knowledge of how terrible your eyesight is, and adjustments made accordingly (i.e there is a dog you like over there but I know you can't see it so I'll describe to you in great detail)
Legalising pot seems like a common sense policy but in fact, it’s a public health disaster that the MJ industry is doing its darnedest to cover up. totally unwoke, I know, but facts are facts. My report from sunny (smelly) LA here
The woman who invented ‘I Quit Sugar’ had an eating disorder for a decade. Struggled writing this as it feels v uncomfortable to expose another woman but I felt someone has to in aid of the thousands of followers who replicate her eating 1/2
@GraceFVictory
@maxineali_
Also the term ‘body positive’ is about loving and appreciating your NATURAL body. NOT sculpting it into something unattainable
If you shout loud enough - from the proverbial rooftops - someone eventually starts to listen. Astonishing achievement from
@jowhiley
@samcarlisle
. Hopefully, one day, the Govt will work injustice out before it's pointed out by celebrities
This is almost guaranteed to make many perfectly nice people pretty mad at me. But healthcare professionals must put patients first, not profit (or how good they look in gym gear). Willing to say what you were all thinking 🤷🏻♀️

In her latest British Vogue interview, Adele talks about her workout habits and why she works out.
“It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better. It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong”
Call me shaming, unsympathetic & cruel if you like, but I won’t stop until influencers start taking responsibility for this never-ending tirade of ‘healthy eating’ (see:diet) quackery
In the past 2 days I’ve received some of the most disgusting, abusive comments I have ever read. Why? BC I exposed a popular diet mantra for what it was: pseudoscientific BS founded out of one woman’s desire to grasp control of the uncontrollable. Thoughts below
Is
#ZeroCovid
really a pipe dream fantasy?
@devisridhar
makes a convincing argument on podcast this weekend. Must admit I’m starting to believe it might be what we need to get us out of this mess good and proper
I think the
@bbcpress
should pay the extra funds needed to keep
@beatED
’s phone lines operating for longer than usual. It’s not an exaggeration to say this helpline is life saving
We strongly discourage anyone with an
#eatingdisorder
to watch the BBC2 programme The Restaurant that Burns Off Calories airing tonight.
We’re keeping our online support group open 3 hours longer & you can contact us by DM on Twitter if you need support
people die from eating disorders. people die from eating disorders. people die from eating disorders (and one more time for the people watching Channel 5) people die from eating disorders.
Should schools weigh pupils to make sure they shift the pounds they've put on during the lockdown?
Health experts want two weigh-ins in September and then in the spring to keep kids on track. But could this just create a generation of calorie counters?
#JeremyVine
Don't ban sugary treats in hospitals. Their power to feed the dying a final taste of pleasure is not to be sniffed at. Wrote about my darling dad for TMoS.
A national pandemic does not give you free license to fat-shame and spread scaremongering propaganda that incites distorted views about food. Even if you are a ‘heart doctor’
I’m fed up of hearing ‘off the record’ of wellness bloggers who push out pics of perfectly lit vegetables in the name of ‘health’ whilst hiding their own messed up eating problems
Doctors out here have told me they’re seeing cases of cannabis poisoning most days - it is the most common form of any type of poisoning in adolescents in California.
Of course there’s absolutely no shame in any mental health problem, and speaking as a survivor of one, it would serve our health far better if these people would just be honest about their real problems rather than masking them with pseudoscientific food rules
Took on one of the most controversial treatments in psychiatry this week: ECT. Despite the terrifying images, I think my conclusion is, we’re actually not giving it enough…
Fed up of supposedly 'authentic' celebs 'coming out' about depression/anxiety/panic attacks but hiding an eating disorder like it's some sordid secret. Why? Perhaps it's something to do with their back catalogue of healthy eating (restrictive) cookbooks...
A classic celebrity response - ‘I was just talking about ME and MY food choices’. Well, I’m afraid it stops being that simple as soon as your following reaches 100k (or even 50 tbf)
Look I get that a lack of privacy is horrible but if I read one more tweet accusing THE MEDIA (caps) I think I’ll eat my newspaper. We are not all heartless devils. We report facts that are in the public interest & let’s be honest you all end up talking about it at dinner parties
If I had as much money as
@jamescracknell
, I'd pay him and every other celebrity to stop giving health recommendations in interviews. This is the worst yet, IMO
my darling girl
@stephiblackwell
chatting openly about the illness no one wants to talk about is a lovely reminder that some human beings aren't narcissistic politicians and are quite wonderful actually
@reallorraine
FYI influencers no one every asked you to do that 'job'. You're not gifting us anything with your narcissism. I'm not
#blessed
to read 200 word captions about your holibobs. And I don't care how much you paid for an SLR to bestow upon us pics of your ass crack. THANKS BYE
If we spoke about eating disorders with the same candid honesty we do depression/anxiety, perhaps 1000s more would ask for help. I can’t thank
#gbbo
’s Steph enough for speaking out about hers in aid of the rest of us. Take note celebrities
#authenticself
For months I’ve considered writing about this, but worried ppl would consider it a sign of weakness. Then I remembered the plan I’ve stuck to all along: if reading this would’ve made 22 y/o me less wretched/desperate/alone, I should probably talk about it
there's something wrong when privileged celebrity chefs who are m8s with David Cameron are informing public health policy rather than QUALIFIED professionals
Looking to speak to a carer/health worker who would be willing to walk out of their job if forced to have the jab. In the interest of exploring the repercussions of this no jab/no job policy. They can be Anon. Please DM or tweet me!
Short of begging, I don’t know how else to urge
@GOVUK
that the lives of the 1.5 mil (at least) with eating disorders are worth saving. My column this week
'I want people to just eat and enjoy eating.'
For author
@EveSimmns
, dieting led to an unhealthy relationship with food and eventually she developed anorexia. Eve has now written a book about her own experience in the hope of discouraging fad diets.
#Lorraine
It seems like a particularly apt time to call on social media influencers to take responsibility for their part in the epidemic of mentally ill young people (especially girls). It is not empowering/feminist if other women are suffering because of it.
Oh! ‘Junk’ food ads are to be banned on the tube.
Whether this will apply to stuff like organic, superfood energy balls made with just 5 ingredients (but still sky high in fat and sugar), remains to be seen.
#WatchThisSpace
Yes obesity etc etc but 3 million ppl in this country are also at risk of dying because they don't have enough to eat. Malnutrition costs 3x obesity for the NHS...
Instead of shaming people for the stuff they feed their kids, give them more money/time/better housing so that they can afford the fucking humous you recommend
@PHE_uk
Really appreciate the shout out in this, but can I reiterate that this book is opposite end of the spectrum to ours. Ours is a safe place for people with eating disorders, which this book quite clearly is not.
Landed in the UK to find I’m being burned at the stake! Ppl rly hate women journos ey. While i accept healthy criticism of any piece (journos have limited space and are always writing with their newspaper audience in mind so the narrative will never be to everyone’s taste…) 1/3
Doctors receive less than 2 hours training about eating disorders over the course of six years. No wonder mine told me to 'drink chocolate milkshakes'
@beatED
I know baking bread is self care etc etc, but if you frankly cba, don't worry - it makes f all difference to your health & the supermarket stuff is just as good for you
Contractions hurting? Why not rub an old leaf on your foot? Or we could research effective evidence-based treatments for pregnant women, rather than fobbing them off with hippy tosh. Thanks for highlighting
@JamesTitcombe
@catherineroyuk
in today's 'what is wrong with people' news: a public health conference hosting a session entitled 'managing EATING DISORDERS through a KETOGENIC diet'.
Honestly who is coming up with this crap
Here we go, the speaker schedule for
#PHCvcon2020
!!!
If you haven't already be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and the "Premieres" of all the talk will appear in your feed 🙂📺👍
Yes, we're in the midst of an anorexia crisis. But blaming social media lets the unforgivable faults with the system get off scot-free. My investigation for TMoS (forgive the apprentice-final-three-candidate pic)
Influencers like Ella didn't mean any harm. But failing to acknowledge the stories of people like me, who feel her diet advice contributed to our
#eatingdisorders
, is hurtful. And in this era of reflection on past errors, now is perhaps the perfect time.
My first meal out during AN treatment was for my boyfriend's 23rd birthday. I had to fight with every cell to steer my brain away from predicting how much each course would 'cost' me, calories-wise. My boyfriend's words helped: 'you don't know, so what's the point in guessing?'
Also mad to me that ppl seem to be implying I’ve ‘made stuff up’ given that my report was based on countless published studies, metaanalyses and quotes from doctors working on the front line. Tbh this is better quality evidence than what health claims related to CBD are based on
A new low for insta influencers everyone. Any other deadly illnesses u wanna take a pop at for 'likes'? What part of 'eating disorders kill people' don't these idiots understand? lol that I was considering featuring his new book on our pages
@jamessmithPT_
Liver vs apple for essential nutrients - compared for 100 calories, not 100g, to be as favourable as possible to the apple.
I'd rather eat the apple, but I don't kid myself that it's healthier.
Everyone’s reporting on the scarily rapid surge in eating disorders, but no one’s asking why. Here’s my attempt at an answer - and some good news
@beatED
@MaudsleyNHS
Without the honesty of wonder women like
@EJWoolf
, the truth about what extreme diets - and eating disorders - do to your body, goes undiscussed, putting thousands more at risk. Thank you mummy (!) Emma for doing this with us ❤️
@fredsirieix1
I think your reply is both irresponsible and appalling, and laughs in the face of the mental illness with the highest mortality rate. I hope to god no one you know suffers and eating disorder Fred - and you never have to find out for yourself how truly dangerous this sh*t is
Are oven chips to blame for our rise in eating disorders? Of course not - and the mere suggestion tells us even the professionals don’t understand what it’s like to live with this disease
Breast cancer prevention may seem like a sensible focus for research, but the truth is, most of it is down to luck. The ever-brilliant
@Liz_ORiordan
explains why a genetic test to spot your risk might end up doing more harm than good
I love a good BBC doc. But the last few on antidepressants have been irresponsible & potentially harmful to ppl who rely on these lifesaving drugs to get through the day (I’ve been one of them)
"Until med students get more nutrition training I suggest drs refer patients to dietitians for individualised evidenced based dietary advice"
#BMJresponse
Ever wondered why you’re suddenly trumping like a trooper & you haven’t done a proper poo since the release of Deliciously Ella’s third book? Here’s your answer.
#ibs
Rly wish my all time favourite heroes would stop going on my all time favourite podcast & ruining their facade of intelligence by spouting totally unscientific BS about how carbs are bad for you
@DavidLammy
think before u casual keto-plug to millions of vulnerable listeners
