Varadkar not ruling out idea that only fully vaccinated people could use indoor hospitality. So people in 20s and 30s wouldn't be able to eat or drink there but can work there? Doesn't seem very thought through.

@EXECUTIVESTEVE
Heartbreaking to know some of most common stolen items are nappies and baby food. Something seriously wrong when poverty criminalised
Anyone parroting the "schools aren't closing in other countries" line needs to add context that Ireland has highest student to teacher ratio in Europe and very little if any mitigation measures in schools.
The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says if the Government introduced mandatory quarantining, it would probably be for a year. Summer holidays and seeing relatives next Christmas "would be off the agenda"

Telling a luas driver to back up sums up these people's intelligence. Causing hassle for the sake of it while acting like they genuinely care about public safety.
What other public servant could work abroad for years and expect that time to count towards increments? People going abroad to income tax free countries wanting to have their cake and to eat it. Surely onus was on him to do basic research in advance?

''S.S'' and ''anti-fa'' in the one tweet. Is he really that stupid not to get the connotation of abbreviating Secret Service? Or is it deliberate?
Government minister on the radio telling people they should shop around to try to reduce the cost of living. From the same government that outsourced reducing the cost of antigen tests to Lidl. 🙃
Natasha O'Brien who Cathal Crotty attacked gave a powerful statement. Crotty should have been jailed and fired from the Defence Forces for this disgusting attack.
This is a disgrace. Cathal Crotty, a serving Irish soldier who beat a woman unconscious in a random street attack, and boasted about it afterwards on social media, has walked free from a court after getting a fully suspended sentence.

His team mates need to walk with him. Opposition players too. This is bigger than 1 match or 1 result. Racists should be kicked out of football
Catherine Connolly on rte radio 1 seems to be one of the few people who had read the resolution Daly and Wallace didn't support and says in their submission they were clear in criticism of Russia's invasion. Says coverage of their vote by some journalists was deplorable.
The government's "living with covid" plan is going so well that the President, Harris, McEntee, Taoiseach and Tánaiste have all tested positive in the space of 3 weeks.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has tested positive on an antigen test for Covid-19.
Spokesperson says that he is now isolating and that events in Cork have been cancelled.
I think
@HerstoryIreland
should consider their following of Graham Linehan in light of abuse of a person whos photo was part of their recent campaign. He is misusing this and causing harm by doing so
Zero covid was supposedly an unsustainable strategy while the government's "living with covid" with record levels of people getting sick and their close contacts having having isolate with serious pressure on hospitals and many businesses forced to close is sustainable apparently
Vardkar in Dail earlier saying that as many people have died of covid this year than last year shows how serious B117 variant is. No acknowledgement of the disastrous reopening ag Christmas or failure to have any travel controls before now.
Nothing against Claire Byrne but I think thought Sarah McInerney was great replacement for O'Rourke. There's not many who question interviewes as robustly which is well needed.
"The Irish Examiner has learned that gardaí and UCC have a long-running arrangement whereby members of the gardaí can confiscate student IDs and report back to the college the reasons for the confiscation." That sounds fairly dodgy
Turns out demand isn't actually that high for €1,000 per month "luxury" student accommodation in Dublin.
Instead of dropping prices, companies are converting the flats to short-term lets or co-living.
Government TD says people advocating zero covid are advocating false hope while "people are dying". We're in such a state because of government actions and not even attempting zero covid nevermind mandatory quarantine. Used NI as an excuse not to even bother. No leadership 🙃

@BethRigby
Why does delay phase in other countries involve social distancing and cancelling of mass gatherings, yet in the UK is based on 60% of population contracting it to supposedly build up herd immunity? Have I missed something?
@LeoVaradkar
Does that mean resuming close contact tracing in schools, mandatory sick pay for all, HEPA filters in every class room, minimum standards on air quality, subsidised antigen tests, health care workers provided with FFP2 masks etc?
@gavreilly
''This is the first time that unions have refused to accept the advice provided by public health specialists.'' I wonder is anyone keeping score of how many times the government diverted from NPHET's advice? Pot, kettle, black.
@gemmaod1
What a vile and ignorant comment. We should welcome anyone who wants to make a life for themselves here, have a family and work. The same thousands of Irish have done over past few hundred years. Many immigrants working in sectors of health, teaching and garda. Would have
@MarkPaulTimes
Why do you think there are basically no cases in Australia? It wouldn't be partly because they have mandatory hotel quarantine by any chance would it?
@gavreilly
This seems completely dismissive of people's lived experience in direct provision, poor living conditions, poor food, not having freedom to make own food, huge mental health toll on waiting for years for result of asylum applications. Seems characteristically tone deaf too.
Pamela Karlan: “What would you think if, when your governor asked the federal government for the disaster assistance that Congress has provided, the President responded, ‘I would like you to do us a favor.’ I’ll... send the disaster relief once you brand my opponent a criminal.”

Yes because racism famously ended in US in 2008 when Barack Obama was elected president. What a superficial and trite take devoid of any deep thinking.
Rents are too high in Ireland, says Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.
'Far too many people have to spend too much of their income on rent, often at the expense of other things,' he says.
Hi folks
@IrishRail
, hope ye're good. Just passing on that the woman who operates the food trolley on the 12pm Dublin-Cork is doing a great job, helping people find their seats, carrying their luggage, giving directions for connection etc.
"The revisions in particular mean car parks, represented by the traders alliance, such as the Arnotts or Fleet Street car parks, would see no alterations to their access routes." Says it all tbh. Potentially millions of passengers can't have better transport because of them.

If you seriously believe that despite the reality of EU showing solidarity with Ireland all along it says a lot about Britain's negotiation tactics. Not being able to deal with the political reality and failing to offer any realistic compromises or solutions is nothing new.
“An orthodoxy started in the south that nationalists in the north were to blame. If they had just behaved & not worried about civil rights everything would’ve been fine.
“Completely ignoring the reality of soldiers machine gunning people to death."

Shows how out of touch you are. You could easily find out this information yourself or even better go to a viewing yourself and experience firsthand for yourself and instead of trying to dismiss the reality of the dreadful housing crisis.
Remember when government said teachers would be fully vaccinated before September when it said it couldn't prioritise workers who might be at greater risk? Doesn't seem like teachers in 20s will be.

Constantly saying ''but the border'' is like leaving your front door open because you've a window open. Would you not at least try to close the front door?

Should the government massively expand the bike to work scheme to everyone in the country? Would reduce demand on public transport, reduce emissions from cars, have health benefits etc.
I'm no fan of Cosgrave but what's controversial or inaccurate about what he said? What are the companies that pulled out of the summit supposedly objecting to? Most of them care more about profit rather than principles either way, let's not pretend this is some principled stance
Bonkers qoute. It definitely is because of covid. If someone's a close contact they by definition have been in close contact with something with a highly infectious disease. And this guy's a doctor?! 🙃

saying mandatory hotel quarantine has been nicknamed Guantanamo Bay. By who exactly? Because a 2 week stay in a hotel is the same as being held in a torture centre for years.. Only connection is “rendition” flights went through Shannon.
