Had similar situation as a surgical SHO + a locum SpR did a day shift in Sheffield then drove 100+ miles to Birmingham to do a night, immediately went to bed saying he was ‘not to be disturbed as he was too tired’. pure fortune I didn’t need him. Still shithouse behaviour though.

The crux of this is to highlight that you fully acknowledge their pain as ‘real’. I hear far too often crestfallen patients who were told (or interpret such) that the scan was ‘basically normal so you shouldn’t be in pain’ which many take to mean ‘my GP/consultant says I’m mad’

I had a lap chole 5 years ago. Despite being on an elective list, It was complicated and thankfully mine was done by the consultant as it was by no means straightforward. I make no apology for this - these sorts of ops should be done by trained surgical doctors.Very very worrying
