@cornu__copia
I think it is just down to marginal people do marginal things. Converting to Islam is a bizarre thing for a Westerner to do, so bizarre Westerners do it. The occasional eccentric esthete, like Peter Murphy from Bauhaus, but mostly low status dorks and dysfunctional losers.
For my part, every single block, follow, like, unfollow, mute, reply, RT, etc. is invested with as much emotional intensity as humanly possible. I block those I would kill on sight. I follow those for whom I would gladly die.

They are? Are you sure? The whole idea of Batman is inherently campy and they were all pretty fun. I mean, they're superhero movies, of course they're silly.
Man every time one of these RW Nietzschean heroic warrior culture types gets doxxed and it's another fuckin academic dork about my age I get more annoyed.
We had a whole fuckin war when you were in grad school big guy, you didn't go and now you're selling the kids on this shit?
@eigenrobot
As a male between the ages of 18 and 45, you are a member of the unorganized militia, which means COVID stay at home orders violated your wife's rights under the 3rd Amendment
@eigenrobot
They won't pose any organized threat but shiftless young men have been a problem since time immemorial; I had an anthropology prof who described all culture (semi-facetiously) as "the ways in which societies try to deal with the problem of young men."
Another occasion to remind everyone that education majors are the stupidest people on any college campus and that education degrees appear to make them stupider.
RIP my mentions, but seriously…what makes anyone believe they’re qualified to homeschool their kids K-12?
it’s not as if teaching a) isn’t age-, grade-, and subject-specific; and b) requires a college degree in pedagogy
@Goodtweet_man
For some people it was the first time in their lives they ever felt any sense of meaning or purpose. You know how some veterans just can't let go of the service? Same deal.
Two weeks ago I was told my position was being eliminated and today I got a job offer at another firm doing potable water, a field I have been trying to get into since I graduated. Thanks be to God.
Gay commies desperately doing chest compressions on the author, calling for the AED, yelling for the crash cart, but it's too late, the author is dead, the work stands alone, and we read it how we please.
It will never not be funny to me how much this lot fetishise The Matrix, a strongly queer-coded film made by trans sisters about a multiracial group with a strong female lead who fight against militaristic, fascistic conformity brought on by a misplaced trust in tech companies.
*within my lifetime* hiv has gone from being a de facto death sentence to something that can be more easily treatable than diabetes ! with access to medication it is almost wholly preventable ! we are in minuscule margins of risk mitigation ! that is *incredible*
If sodomy is your vice, the government spends trillions to ensure you come to no harm. Meanwhile, we drunks continue to die invisible deaths for which we ourselves are blamed.

Has she painted your toenails yet
I went around with blindingly beglittered toenails for two weeks because mine would actually check if I had taken it off

We had a dude in a dress played for laughs at my HS play at a Catholic school in the South in the 90s. Drag as comedy has been around for ages and is pretty ubiquitous.

fixed it for you:

@LinkofSunshine
People always remember the successful protests that led to good outcomes, but they do their best to forget the terrible protests that led to bad outcomes... a lot of the time they're successful in memory holing it.
Discourse has been done to death but I never miss a chance to remind everyone that education majors are reliably the stupidest people on any college campus, not excluding the football team and the groundskeepers.
Everyone who has been to college knows this.
If you want to watch certain people's brains stutter, ask which is worse: aborting a baby or saying the n-word
They short out entirely, it's fun to watch
Actually Chinese funding became too important on the radical left for Tibet activism to survive. I know it sounds crazy but I was there in the early 2000s when the Tibet movement died. It'd be cool if it were about aesthetics or whatever but it's about cash money.
The question of Tibet is interesting. In the past, liberals adopted Tibet as a cause because they prioritized an aesthetic of peace and spirituality. Now, they have forgotten about Tibet and adopted Palestine, because they favor a politics of war against the oppressor.
Ernst Junger earned the right to say what he said, and what he said wasn't the uncomplicated LOVE WAR LOVE KILLIN SIMPLE AS the memes portray. If you spent your 20s doing a Ph.D. in being a giant queer and not dodging bullets, maybe stfu about heroic warrior culture.
It's the same dynamic every time a narrative falls apart- the media scramble to "expose" their state partners in order to protect the media's own credibility. Oldheads will remember this song and dance during the years after 2003.
“We’d rather have the turban than the tiara, and we mean it”
“Ok well enjoy it then”
“I can BELIEVE you’d say something like that!”
You guys act like a bunch of hysterical 14 year old girls
Why are they always full of these womanish hysterics? They never muster a sincere note of masculine anger, it's always a deeply feminine panic. This guy sounds like a woman whose deadbeat husband spent the rent money on booze.

Hi, I'm Gaius, this is my son Gaius, my father Gaius, my grandfather Gaius, my older sister Julia, my younger sister Julia, and my three daughters, Julia, Julia, and Julia. Love my Patria potestas!
Babies are good. Yes, yes, in highly specific contexts and while engaged in highly specific behaviors they can be annoying- crying loudly on planes etc.
But if, in general, seeing a baby doesn't make you happy, there's something wrong with you.
I worked in jails as a nurse and this is 100% accurate. You meet a cop and you think, how do these goobers ever catch criminals? Then you meet criminals.
For me the whole "heritage American" vs. "America as an ideal" thing boils down to this: is there somewhere else you can go? Because there's nowhere else I can go. I am an alien in every country but one.
When I was in kindergarten, I got bored and left. Walked right out the front door and set off for home. Some lady from the school picked me up in a van but I learned that day- you can do whatever you want.
Share a formative experience you had in elementary school. Either positive or negative.
I'll go following Jasmyn.
In at least 3rd grade, but could have been 4th or 5th, we were assigned the individual class project of making a castle. It was the big project of the year and all
Will Stencil is what happens when you have a guy who actually believes in his soul all the bullshit politicians and corporate messaging firms spew to squid ink everyone.
The far right is spreading because people’s information diet is now jam-packed full of far-right garbage, much of it presented as authoritative, or funny, or savvy. That’s it. It’s not lived experiences or economic conditions or whatever other thing you think it is.

The doctrine that under particular circumstances the Pope cannot teach error. He can casually say whatever he wants, but the doctrine applies to statements ex cathedra. It has a lot of complexities but basically he has to very formally and solemnly proclaim something infallible.
It wasn't boring, I assure you. Bob Dole was a terrifying lich who was going to drag us back to the 19th century and institute a Christian theocracy. I have clear memories of every election since 1992 and in every one, the GOP candidate was a eldritch horror from beyond time
I hate the whole we need to admit educated, hard working immigrants schtick. I especially don't want to admit college educated immigrants. Why would I want competition? Importing a million farm laborers doesn't harm me in nearly the immediate way admitting foreign CivE grads does
A library in Sydney was replaced with an updated student centre in the name of architectural revival, and as a brutalism enjoyer, this makes me very sad
Really incredible the number of people who simply cannot comprehend not being a coward.
One of my buddies overseas ran up to a burning Humvee full of ammunition cooking off, calmly worked the door open and dragged a fellow soldier to safety. Not all men are cowards.
Americans underreport British ancestry. In my own ancestry, the largest single contributions are from Scotland and England, with Ireland in a close third, but when I asked my mother where my family came from, she said we were Polish. I have one Polish great-grandparent.
I think arming cargo ships is probably fine tbh. Historically they were armed. Weapons heavy enough to repel boarders but not so heavy as to threaten cities.
Today, a pirate boat tried to board a container ship and the workers pulled out two machine guns and blew up the speedboat.
This will happen more and more if the US pulls away from protecting shipping lanes. Good luck in getting those resources, Xi.
The probability of an outcome under a continuous probability function is the area under the curve of that function corresponding to that outcome. But the area under a point is zero, which means the probability of anything happening is zero, which is why nothing ever happens.

Liking Bush. When Sixteen Stone came out all the coolest kids I knew loved it, but by the time Razorblade Suitcase came around not only did everyone hate Bush, they all denied liking them in the first place.

Let's try to apply antisemitic standards to another nation: Turkey has no right to exist. It's an illegitimate occupying state. It's not Turkey, it's Byzantium. Turkey is a terrorist settler colony on Greek land. Greeks have the right to resist Turkish occupation by all means.
It's like strippers. Should there be strippers? Nah. Am I fired up to go on jihad against strippers? Also nah. Why? Because the strippers are in titty bars and I can readily avoid titty bars.
When drag was in nightclubs and cabarets, nobody cared, not enough to act at least.
Holy crap! Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) have introduced a bill that would extend the same taxpayer benefits to Americans serving in the IDF as if they were serving in the US military!

No, killing an embryo/fetus is not exercising force against it. The relevant force if force against a mind, against what someone thinks and chooses. Rights protect the mind of the individual, which is why a brain dead person doesn't have rights. The person is gone.
This isn't an either/or. Many critical components of a building are not readily accessible after construction (try to look at the plumbing and wiring inside your walls). Abolishing codes would send transaction costs into the stratosphere.
What's better:
A. Everyone can build a house the way they like, without any codes or oversight. When they sell, it's sold "as-is" and the buyer is responsible for making it safe.
B. Every house that is built is subject to intense, costly, often corrupt governmental scrutiny in
Periodic reminder: if you are one of my mutuals, you can use my veteran status whenever it might benefit you, be it discounts, the parking spots at Home Depot, whatever. It's not stolen valor if I am letting you borrow it.
My biggest regret in life is not having more children. There were medical reasons we couldn't and I love the ones we have, but not a day goes by I don't miss the one we lost and regret the ones we couldn't have.
Hopefully my kids give me a bazillion grandkids anyway.
