It was worth heading out this afternoon despite the weather. @ed_keeble & I found a large finch flock at Alton Water, over 400 birds in total. The vast majority were Linnets and Chaffinches but we saw several smart Bramblings too.

Returned to Holbrook for seconds of the Hawfinches today and was thoroughly rewarded! Great to share the experience with a local young birder as well as several @SuffolkBirdGrp stalwarts whose arrival time was perfect!

An enjoyable morning at Loompit Lake catching up with @Reece77321689 for the first time in ages and bumping into several birding friends. The Tundra Bean and Pink-footed Geese showed splendidly alongside a Great Egret. A Great Northern Diver was mega distant.

An ‘interesting’ 24 hours….. The positives have included Raven from my house (my 150th Suffolk species of 2025), seeing a Brown Hairstreak egg (thanks as always @DavidDowding2) and noting the great work by @GreenwaysProj to create new pools/channels in Belstead Brook Park.

My phone ran out of charge at the crucial moment, but fortunately Noah captured the magic moment! This Jack Snipe performed to order at very close range in front of the screen at Patsy’s Pool.
