It could've been Welcome to the Bungle, but underestimate a Japanese woman with ice scraper and a Slimer edition bassist at your peril...

Rare and highly localised in the Lowestoft area, this wintering Nuthatch suggests this sedentary species still persists as a local breeding species.

This local wintering Black Redstart was finding plenty of sustenance despite the frosty conditions this morning.

Codenamed with typical British understatement, 1947's Operation Big Bang defeats Operation Lobster Claw. The detonation of the Heligoland archipelago was the largest non-nuclear explosion up to 1985. This North Sea rock continues to host Rock Pipits where H5 was ringed in 2020.

This Dovekie very nearly suffered groyne strain during the recent northeaster. Stuck in the swell of the sea defences, it finally powered back out to sea when a large wave lifted it clear 🌊 #LittleAuk

Finnish Peregrine, St Bartholomew's church, Corton, Oct 2024. Born near Oulu in June, some 1,200 miles to the north-east. The 15thC tower was built particularly high to aid navigation for mariners...and falcons. β€œWhen you get to Corton, the way begin to shorten.” @PeterJRansome

The northerly gales brought monstrous waves sans Little Auk and a wobbly Woodcock, which took several attempts to land! File photo.

Launched 5th September 1977 - 3 days before I landed on Earth - Voyager 1 is now back transmitting from interstellar space on its (fast = ~23hrs!) X-band channel. A testament to the exceptional engineering of its design. Fun fact: Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode is on board.

It looks like there is some good news with Voyager 1 – communications have been restored, allowing the spacecraft to keep sending data back. The fact that Voyager 1 is 47 years old and still functioning and providing information to us is a testament to the quality of the research and engineering that went into its development by @NASA a half-Century ago. Voyager 1 is 15.4 billion miles from Earth – still venturing into deep space, on its own, carrying out its mission. An astounding accomplishment!

@LowestoftLizard @richardallenart @BirdwatchExtra @EBwSTweets @SuffolkBirdGrp @swlanaturaleye @SwarovskiOptik Ivory much hope there'll be another. A quarter of a century since Suffolk's only record and nearly twice that for Norfolk. The seal rookeries must be offally appealing to a wandering pagophila 🦭
