The CA Department of Housing and Community Development ( @California_HCD ) has mandated San Francisco to build 82k new homes by 2031. Uh oh 😳 I have an idea that will help: Tear down the Central Freeway. Its presence currently blocks tens of thousands of potential homes.

The US Mint in SF takes up so much space and sits near a ton of transit. It currently produces collectible coins for coin nerds, and doesn’t actually produce coins for circulation. Maybe this isn’t the best use of space? Should be moved imo and replaced with mixed use housing.

I’m so fucking sick and tired of the cultural permissiveness and tolerance towards crime in SF. Nobody likes living in a city where crimes like this are rampant, but SF has a bizarre ethos where it’s uncool to call it out. It’s absurd. Needs to stop.

In case anyone is wondering: Gentrification isn’t caused by food critics at the SF Chronicle. It’s caused when a region experiences a large influx of new affluent residents, coupled with a vast dearth of existing housing stock and a failure to build new housing.

1) SF permits a thriving illegal open air drug market that is killing people. 2) SF shafts hardworking small business owners, who jump through endless hoops and pay insane amounts of taxes and fees just to set up shop. It’s fucking absurd and infuriating.

I’ve lived in SF since the mid-2000’s and I haven’t seen material improvements in the City’s *ostensible* quest to reduce car dependency, improve transit, and build more housing. It’s basically the same city, frozen in time, despite enormous revenue over the last few decades.

Countless vulnerable LGBT people seek refuge in SF because they’ve been rejected in their hometowns. Many of these people are youth. Instead of a safe haven, they’re met with inaccessible/exorbitant housing costs and a dismissive “I got mine” attitude. Build more housing.

Thank you SF Examiner for the opportunity to talk more about Central Freeway removal. That monstrosity is coming down, y’all. It’s ugly, it’s hazardous, and it blocks countless community benefits.

As an SFUSD teacher, it seems absurd that we would delay any crucial subject matter. The best way to improve student outcomes is to foster a rigorous academic environment, provide all of the necessary resources and wraparound services, and keep expectations high. Always.

BRING ALGEBRA BACK!!!! Kids down the peninsula can take Algebra I in 8th grade, but in SF, it's banned. This is deeply unfair to public school kids who want to be scientists, tech workers, and engineers. SIGN THE PETITION and bring Algebra back!

There is vast corruption encompassing our homelessness nonprofit network of groups that ostensibly work to fix homelessness. We often wonder, how can we be spending so much money on homelessness without getting any positive results? Well… ⬇️

You know what has exacerbated our rent crisis? Answer: Aaron Peskin and Dean Preston constantly blocking new housing proposals. Also, Prop M passed in 2022, which fines property owners with vacant units. It has resulted in no change. Now we have this. Just build more housing!

Let’s be clear: RealPage has exacerbated our rent crisis and empowered corporate landlords to intentionally keep units vacant. So we’re taking action locally to ensure our working renters can afford to live here: via @kron4news

Rafael would rather save Aaron Peskin’s view on Telegraph Hill than build desperately needed new housing. Homelessness is a housing issue. Posturing as a homelessness advocate, and then voting to *BLOCK* housing in the same breath? That’s fucked up, Rafael. What are you doing?

Might want to ask Supervisor Preston what his plans are in order to meet the CA housing mandate for San Francisco: 82,000 new homes by 2031. Might ask why he’s chosen to *block* various housing projects as well, totaling nearly 10k new homes, 2k BMR homes

This is a half baked and embarrassing attempt at improving BART public safety. When you get on a train, you should be nearly *guaranteed* a safe experience because BART has strong public safety measures in place. Instead, BART puts the onus on riders to navigate harassment ⬇️

For 10-15 years, the Mission hasn't been led by elected City officials. Every local politician and City bureaucrat is petrified of unelected small hostile "community" groups in the Mission who hijack all decision-making. SF leaders are cowards for allowing this to happen.

Here we have a California leader who clearly understands that public transit is not optional. It’s essential to our climate change goals and a basic necessity for our community. Let’s make our public transit systems robust, expansive, safe, clean, and accessible to all.

Public transit systems across CA are facing a fiscal cliff as federal emergency funds begin to run out. These systems are still recovering & the State needs to step in to stop massive service cuts. We’re working hard in the state budget to help our transit agencies remain viable.

California simply doesn’t build homes. It’s insane. It’s not like CA is becoming less compelling as time goes on. The weather is good. We boast powerful entertainment, tech, and agriculture industries. No new housing = significant displacement of low & middle income earners.

If Paris, Tokyo, London, et al can have insanely good public transit, where a significant number of households don't own cars (50% of Londoners, 2/3 of Tokyoites, 2/3 of Parisians), then San Francisco can do the same. The dream of amazing public transit in SF is possible.

One of a million reasons why rent control rules/policy in SF need to be thoroughly reexamined. As someone who lives in a rent controlled unit in SF, I can confidently say that it is - on the whole - bad for the housing market. It’s good for some. Bad on the whole.

@cafedujord Public school teacher here 🙋🏻 We need more housing of all types. Not just BMR housing or workforce housing (I actually find teacher housing insulting – I shouldn’t be forced to live in a teacher dorm). Market rate housing as well. It all helps to build adequate supply.
