Removing police from non-violent traffic enforcement has to be a top priority for all politicians, everywhere. Expired tags, broken tail lights, etc. - these are, and always have been, excuses to stop, detain, search, harass, and even kill Black people. We can end this tomorrow.

They do these PR stunts every year for media to promote. (1) people don’t like being pulled over, it’s scary (2) there’s no charity involved, the taxpayers are paying for this stunt, (3) it’s likely an illegal detention of the person (4) does random selection help those in need?

This will do zero to reduce shoplifting, flood our courts with low-level cases, and pack our prisons with people for being poor. Nobody is trying to address the underlying causes of crime so it doesn't happen again. Just mass incarcerate their way out of it. Which will fail.

California lawmakers are trying to raise penalties on shoplifters to fight rampant retail theft. The bill includes potential three-year prison sentences for possession of stolen property with the intent to sell.

We're seeing a reversion to the pre-pandemic mean on crime, with one exception being the place they threw out their reform DA, & one outlier with crime going down significantly being a place where half the police department quit. From @ryanlcooper :

Newsom, backed by the prison guard's union, secured another victory in their fight to keep pregnant inmates in solitary confinement, aka torture. Will be so glad when Newsom is termed out and has nowhere to go politically.

Hardworking Oakland cop solves a murder the old fashioned way, bribes a witness, commits perjury, and sends an innocent man to prison. Kicker is he’s still on the force “solving” crimes for OPD.

It's rare for murder convictions to be overturned. A man was freed from prison last year after a key witness in his trial recanted her testimony and said an Oakland police officer—who she served as informant for—secretly paid her $ before the trial.

If the "tough-on-crime" folks really believed in preventing crime, they would be advocating for housing, education, treatment, and other social services. The fact that they never do, and actively fight against such programs, tells you everything you need to know about them.

Instead of being arrested and jailed for a vicious attack on a sleeping man, SFPD Officer Brian Burke was promoted. Burke justified the beating arguing the man was homeless and therefor dangerous. Oh, and he was training a SFPD rookie at the time.

SFPD just killed another person today by engaging in a high-risk car chase over a stolen vehicle. A car is not worth a person's life.

Here’s a thought, don’t pose in front of extremist graffiti like some 1980’s gang-banger, and you won’t need to issue bs DMCA takedowns.

We just got back home from 2 days in San Francisco exploring different neighborhoods & riding public transit on buses, cable cars, & street cars. Reports of the city being a lawless cesspool are flat out wrong. It is still one of the most charming & beautiful cities in the world.
