I preached on Psalm 88 yesterday and said that it wasn't the sort of Psalm you'd find on one of those pretty posters or those nice Instagram posts.
So my friend made me these:
This morning I preached at the first gathering of a new church in the council estate I've lived on for nearly 11 years. I've wanted and hoped and prayed for this day for ages.
It was a good day. All Glory to Him!

This week, the churc voted me to continue as Assistant Pastor beyond this summer when my initial contract was until. It also included being the lead on the Eyres Monsell plant, and a commitment of the church to support me in it. Which is all very exciting innit??
@emschumacher
When speaking about the horrors of the nations around Israel, described it as "wild prostitution, beastiality, child sacrifice... Its mouthwatering stuff...
... Eye watering! Eye watering, not mouthwatering!"
He lost me at that point that sermon.
Hey
@TGC
. I just read this article and wanted to offer a few thoughts. Please read them?
First - I LOVE The Gospel Coalition. I'm incredibly thankful to have a biblically faithful organisation putting out regular and diverse resources for the worldwide church. Thank you so much.
There is almost nothing more counter-cultural than having more children. And once we have those children, there is almost nothing more important than catechizing them in the faith.

I caught 10 minutes of Kermode & Mayo
@wittertainment
this afternoon, and they recommended the
@NetflixUK
film The Mitchells vs. The Machines.
So we're watching it now on family film night, and it is SUPERB!! Honestly, watch it. Very funny family animation.
@YouTube
If they don't bring Rich Beef Sausages, then I'm kicking off; trashing the Rattan-effect garden furniture, tipping over the chimenea and setting fire to the haloumi.
Tomorrow is the last Sunday where we as a family will gather as members with Avenue Community Church. We've been at Avenue for 10 years: we arrived spat out by a church that nearly destroyed my wife. She really didn't trust anyone, and didn't want to let anyone get close at all.
We don't need "Sunday School" for secondary school age children. They can cope for an hour in school - they can handle a 25-35 minute sermon. All we do is un-equip them for adult church life.
Tomorrow, Sunday 18th September, my incredible wife is finally (for reasons too long to explain on here) getting baptised. Thankful for her bravery in doing it right now, and for her willingness to obey Jesus when it would be easier in some ways not to.
This year's been awful in many ways, right? Very few positives in it, globally.
Let's find one.
Nay - let's make one!
Let's call on

Holmes Under The Hammer - Eammon Holmes answers questions about Sport, Food and 'other', while a hammer swings above his, descending with each wrong answer. How long until he is knocked out?
Morning all. Quick prayer request if you're a pray-er. I'm currently down A&E with a physical thing (nothing life threatening!), and not 100% sure how long I'm going to be.
It's meant to be the first Easter service for EMCC this morning, but not sure what will look like now...
Mother's Day is a bit bittersweet in casa James. Infertility means mourning for the lost babies we never met, while rejoicing in the miracle of the 1 that stuck in there.
Overall - very thankful, of course, but it's always tinged with a hint of sadness.
However, she is amazing!
If you're the praying sort, would you pray for Avenue Community Church tomorrow morning please? I'm preaching Lamentations 2, and aware of how intense and hard it could be. Please pray for me as I preach, and anyone who's listening. Pray for fruit and salvation please!

Ed, I have no idea how you don't go insane with replies you get. Honestly. I admire you so much! And then you come back for more! I love it, and could never do it. Blessings brother!
And I genuinely think it helped save Jamie's life.
So, whatever size your church, no matter the quality of the music or the preaching or the kids work: every church can do this. Every one in a church can do this.
And it makes up for so much.s
This is today! If you're in Eyres Monsell and free, you'd be very welcome - no matter what you know or believe about church or God at the moment. 10:30am at the Community Centre.
For some reason, we've only just watched Paddington (last Friday) and Paddington 2 (tonight).
What glorious, lovely, warm, happy family films!!
Superb.
I deleted my old Twitter account last year, and made a new account around the summer. I was more particular over who I followed when I returned, and it has made the world of difference to my experience here. This morning's interactions demonstrate that perfectly. Thank you all.
I've done it. I've read and finished a book. And in just 3 days. A lot of you will have seen
@10ofthose

Does anyone know of a prayer 'Couch to 5k' plan? Anything that progressively increases prayer 'stamina' as you go through it? Might be a bit random, but thought I'd ask.

It's incredibly 'middle class' to think that going on holiday in the UK isn't an actual holiday. Can't imagine many council estate folk consider their holiday at a seaside anything less than a holiday. Travel abroad is a luxury, not an essential.
I need to get this off my chest. At
#FIECLeadersConference
on Wednesday,
@_JohnStevens
was announced as being recogniseable as 'The Tall One' at the conference.
That was a lie.
I would like to clarify that he was the 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 tallest person there. I am not John Stevens.
Take 2 minutes out of your day and watch this.
We need this kind of messaging for men in church. Something has to change. This can't keep being a hidden, unseen thing that we're ashamed to talk about. We have to do better, and lead better.
And it does start with leaders.
I have huge respect for
@JonathanLeeman
- Can't thank him enough for some of the stuff he's written - but does anyone else think this looks like he interviewed himself?
Brother in law is coming to quarantine himself with us for 2 weeks at least. Please pray for gospel opportunities and - more importantly - fruit. He's a pretty militant and consistent atheist. This feels like a huge opportunity. Please pray!
@GaryLineker
Well done tonight Gary. Tough match to know how to handle, and I thought you and the guys in the studio did brilliantly. Well done and thank you.
100% second this. I am in exactly the position Ash mentions in his second tweet - no other staff and a wife that works and who is a fantastic present mum when she isn't. So I go and have coffees with women in my church in the local cafe. And there's no temptation.
Yesterday I sat through an extraordinary and deeply moving seminar addressing justice issues as related to complementarianism.
But there was a single moment (I don’t think representative of the speaker, hence them being unnamed) that troubled me.
I'm struck reading through the New Testament how often we're commanded to pray. And yet my experience is that I measure/assess my Christian growth not on how I'm praying, but on what I'm reading - and what we read is what a lot of us talk about on here and IRL.
If you're praying for our work in Eyres Monsell, please pray today/now! One of our couples are putting an offer in for a house on the estate - and they're already facing competition so having offer over asking price. They lost one similarly a little while ago - please pray!
I've spent the afternoon trying to edit and put together the Easter Sunday sermon video for church YouTube. I've had to watch and listen to me preach.
A horrible experience.
I need to pray for my church congregation WAY more than I do!
Happy New Year.
We "had" (!!) to take over 100 selfies to get one Jamie was happy with. This was my favourite. It accurately reflected the whole debacle.
The planting team so-far had chance to chat through church planting, among other things (!), with
@mez1972
last night. A helpful night I think. Please pray for us as we think through the implications and needs of planting on this council estate.
Feeling very proud to be linked with
@RollestonPri
. The way they have coped with COVID & served the community has been incredible. I'm a little sad to not be as involved as I was, but it's an incredible place & I'm proud to be a Governor & that my daughter will be there in Sept.
2020 feels a significant year for the church plant plans. 2 couples hoping to move onto the estate by Easter, and we begin life as an official "team" in the church. Please pray! This estate needs the gospel desperately, and we have a fantastic opportunity.
In the last year, Christian music has helped me far more than I ever imagined it would in my personal walk with Jesus, on top of corporate worship. And the album Prayers of the Saints by
@SovGraceMusic
@bkauflin
is the album I've gone back to more than any other. Recommended!
@walkers_crisps
For me, a Welshman married to a half-Scottish/half-Irish lady living in England, I think I have a fair bit of authority to say with 100% certainty that the most British meal is Rich Beef Sausages.
If you're praying for our work in Eyres Monsell, please pray today/now! One of our couples are putting an offer in for a house on the estate - and they're already facing competition so having offer over asking price. They lost one similarly a little while ago - please pray!
Avenue - in the most loving way - wouldn't let us stay at a distance. People refused to let us not have friends, to not be in a homegroup. We were invited to houses and Homegroups, and people refused to be told they couldn't love us.
And it was beautiful.
I know you're all tweeting about Eurovision, but I've just got in from a great day out at Wembley watching the mighty Notts County win promotion to the football league.
And it was great!

Be willing to *not* do stuff if you don't have the man power. Don't force clubs/bands/events if it's all on the same people every time.
My wife's Dad has a commemorative plaque in the crypt in St Paul's Cathedral - today we were able to take our Daughter to go and see it for the first time. Strangely emotional, but delighted to finally be able to. Lovely day in the capital.
The You're Not Crazy podcast is such a massive encouragement & help. If you are...
- A new/young pastor
- A experienced older pastor
- A member of a local church
- A go-er to a local church
- A Christian
... Get on it. Everyone. It's superb.
Thank you

In a few minutes, this hall will be full of 35 children aged 5-11 who I get to speak to EVERY week about the bible and who God is. I did a Bible overview last year, and currently working through the life of Joseph. Pray these would be significant times in the life of the estate.
I'm so impressed with everyone on the trip from
@RollestonPri
to
@wbtourlondon
today. Perfect behaviour, and everyone loved the tour. Fantastic reward for brilliant reading from the students. Well done all, and thank you for letting me be a part of it

I have a spoon that's my favourite spoon. We all have one, right? Anyway, we THINK it's my Granddad's that he used during ww2. It says P.O.S.B.C. on it and no one knows what it stands for. Any of your followers have any idea.
My Granddad's name was Arthur Cable if it helps.
Today I get to worship God and hear the Bible read and pray together with my church family for the first time since March. Am I going to be frustrated at not singing? Yes. Will it be hard not being able to talk with any of then, due to local lockdown restrictions? Yes.
@MooseAllain
On the back of your recent twitter thread, one of your lovely followers has sent me a baby version of the POSBC spoon! Now I have a pair....!
