When I got a notification that
@BetoORourke
was live from just down the road, I changed out of my pajamas and ran to the car.
So I glad I did. I got to meet the next governor of Texas—someone who speaks of governing for all Texans, not against the ones he doesn’t agree with.
DPS announces their presence is criminal trespass and anyone who doesn’t leave will be arrested. This is on the main lawn on Texas’ flagship public university
Asked AI to imagine what
@TXSTATEFOOTBALL

1) AI knows
@GJKinne
is going to work some magic here, and 2) I’m not opposed to this 😂
@kdamp
I cannot believe I’m seeing
@CapMetroATX
complicit in this. Holy shit.
All the trust and goodwill I’ve extended my transit authority these years — gone.
Student protestors marching around the bus transporting the latest group of political prisoners to the Travis County Jail. Sad to see
@CapMetro
complict in this

Every time

I think
@GregAbbott_TX
should own those California libs and their >15-years-to-build HSR by building this start to finish before California HSR even opens
Texas would be UNSTOPPABLE if it connected all of its major cities by High Speed Rail.
It’s time to buck up and build the damn Texas Triangle HSR already!
How long until we all march on the Capitol?
This is state-sponsored violence, a violation of our fundamental principles. UT students shouldn’t stand alone. We need to show our support.
Downtown
@HoustonTX
before and after freeways. For better or worse….
Some followed bayous and were less intrusive. But the grid at bottom center of each pic was wiped out.
Honestly one of the best things about Houston, as opposed to Austin, has been the near-absence of anti-newcomer bullshit.
Folks in the Bayou City welcome new folks warmly. At least in casual conversation, there’s much less of the insider/outsider dynamic than I felt in Austin.

Experience… for those who can afford experience… to gain an advantage over those who don’t have experience… because they couldn’t afford experience
My name is Molly Cook. I'm a Democrat, ER nurse, and community organizer running for Texas Senate, District 15. I am sick of seeing my patients suffer preventable harm as a direct result of bad policy. Help us send a nurse to the Texas Senate. We don't have any more time to wait.
The I-35 cap-and-stitch proposals are doomed to deadness. They're still bounded by busy roads and buildings facing the other way.
Caps are better than open freeway, but that's a low bar. The downtown freeway itself is the problem. We have to

So proud and excited for this. Texas is well represented by TXST.
We are honored to announce that

Charlotte has big plans for a new mobility hub called Gateway Station
It will have housing, retail, office space - and access to:
• Amtrak service
• Taxi & ride share
• Raised Greenway
• Gold Line streetcar
• Silver Line Light Rail
• Red Line Commuter Rail

We need to have a major discussion about how nostalgia is rotting Old Austin brains
(And we need to learn so much about the psychology of memory — which erases, filters, restructures to create fictions about our past that are less damaging to our egos)
Bartender at this pub in NYC said he’s been chatting with a bunch of folks from Austin in here lately and they all complain about the Californians moving to Austin.
We need to be a city of welcome. A city for all. I’m embarrassed that this is the message we carry when we travel.
I experienced some overt homophobia from family in New Braunfels this weekend, on the heels of a hellish week. Now, I’m home in Austin.
This city is my refuge. Here, I feel the anxiety falling away and the light returning.
Are you really a
@txst
Bobcat if you don’t have alternate routes that optimize paths through multiple buildings’ elevators to avoid climbing the

stairs?
San Antonio has a few really stunning urban spaces. It breaks my heart that bad land use and transportation policy makes so much of the city a sprawly, generic mess.
My family arrived in Texas in 1845, been here since. Chip Roy moved here at some point for law school or political expediency or both. Yet he thinks he can tell folks like me to get out!
Chip, I’m a seventh generation Texan, and I’m gladly voting for
@KamalaHarris
and

If you’re a radical progressive Democrat - don’t let the door hit you on your way fully out of Texas. If you’re sane and staying elsewhere in Texas… you’re welcome provided you leave that commie bullsh*t behind.
Petition to build Austin’s Grand Central Station where that ugly ass parking garage sits just north of Republican Square
Bring Red Line, Yellow Line, and Amtrak into the station
I am BEGGING Austin runners to use their ample and largely empty sidewalks rather than running in the bike lane
You have headphones in and aren’t paying attention and have a grade-separated safe space
Let us have these little bits of scrap asphalt and paint please
I will be almost 40 by the time Austin’s first light rail line is finished. I’m not even 30 yet.
The vote on Project Connect was already 4 years ago.
That timeline should be unacceptable in a city of our size and resources.
If you could add cultural/civic institutions to the Austin scene, what would you add? For me:
-Art museum (like MFAH, MoMA scale)
-Zoo (inside the city)
-Science museum
-Public music library (like APL but with sheet music, recording equipment, practice rooms)
Two cars parked in the bike lane by the valet outside the Austonian. When I stopped to take these pics, he goes, “I’m working!” To which I explained you still can’t block a travel lane! 🤪

I’ve got unfinished business in San Marcos. So happy to announce that I’ve been admitted and funded for my PhD in Geography at
@txst

Headed back to the Hill for the next chapter in the relentless pursuit of my WHY. ♥️🌎
Falling in love with Austin all over again.
Folks hanging out, visiting. The storm rolls in; we’re all getting drenched. Nothing but smiles and a few lighthearted, half-smiled utterances of “well shit.” Enjoying the gift of rain, even (especially?) when it foils our plans.
First big announcement: I'm joining
@txstmusic
, where I'll lead student support + public engagement efforts.
I've cheered
@txst
Bobcats as student, alum, and now staff! It's an exciting time to be in San Marcos (hello,
@kdamp
and
@GJKinne
!), and I'm so happy to be part of it. ♥️
Mom's a lifelong Republican living in a subdivision in New Braunfels who enjoys living away from "the city." I live in Montrose (Houston).
On her last visit she said, "This is the kind of place we would like to live in." 🥳 Montrose is > 4x as population dense as New Braunfels!
I love Plaza Saltillo. It’s pretty! And the area around it is quickly growing to include more homes, shops, workplaces, and entertainment.
I hope one day it is serviced by trains at 5 min intervals. 😛
I-81 IS OFFICIALLY DONE!
The I-81 viaduct that has divided Syracuse for decades is officially coming down! A boulevard will take it's place and will not only stitch the grid back together, but also begin an important healing process for the city.
Seeing the Austin delegation’s courage was amazing. Seeing CAMPO’s willful purchase into a system that will continue to harm us for generations was not.
Texans deserve better than this I-35 project. Our lives literally depend on it.
7th generation Texan, PhD student, and Austin resident,
@CutterWGonzalez
, voices concerns that Austin, Texas is on a path to repeat the same mistakes of his native Houston. Cutter ends with thanking the Austin City Council for their leadership.
The level of incompetence is telling. It exposes how predatory Jill Stein + Greens are. No professionalization, no strategy. Just a complaining about the Democratic Party every 4 years.
Even Libertarians run state & local campaigns, plus they run different candidates each cycle!
> Collects signatures in NV to get on ballot
> Collected referendum question signatures, not ballot access signatures
> Collected signatures don't swear that each signatory is a registered voter in their county
> Gets denied ballot access in NV
@HoustonChron
This is a bad take, and it shouldn’t be elevated like this. Rapid buses would do immense good in Montrose.
(Also, didn’t peds die just a few months back because of private car recklessness??)
I’m so thankful for Bill Aleshire & Cabal for suing to make sure this empty warehouse and parking remains on our waterfront. That beautiful public access and vibrant mixed use space would have been horrible!
To be honest, it is much harder to bike in Austin than Houston.
And that’s almost entirely because our “bike lanes” are poorly designed. No actual protection, STROADS, and frequent block-long gaps that make you swerve back into traffic at random.
We deserve so much better!
Hey
@CapMetroATX
we really really really need a shelter at 1820 Pleasant Valley (HEB). It’s in blazing sun like all day and always has a ton of people at it. Not safe and needs cover asap!!
Austin livin' would be a whole lot cooler if we didn't have a freeway tearing through the center of the city.
@megankimble
, doing the Lord's work, asks us to take alternatives seriously.
@TexasObserver
The crazy thing about the anti-HOME folks is that they're painting homes that people like me LIVE IN and desperately need as infested slums.
Do they realize how shitty that makes renters like me feel?
Of the (extremely nativist) Republicans in office who have “represented” me, only TWO were actually born in Texas.
Ted Cruz: Alberta, Canada
Chip Roy: Bethesda, MD
Dan Patrick: Baltimore, MD
Ken Paxton: Minot, ND
John Cornyn: Houston, TX
Greg Abbott: Wichita Falls, TX
