Our 43rd President who when faced with opposing politics, was a gentleman and reminded all of us that while we have at times strong differences, we are all American patriots. There’s nothing nor any individual that can keep the rest of us from such a posture.
.@axios getting first question at 1st Leavitt WH press briefing reminded presidential historian @TeviTroy of this 2-14-2007 moment: Bush: "Michael, who do you work for?" @mikeallen - "I work for @politico .com" Bush: "Pardon me? " Q "Yes, sir. Today."

Absolutely on point. Our communities are calling on our elected officials to confront the shortcomings of idealistic reforms and misplaced criticism of policing strategies that identify & bring to justice those who prey upon others and refuse to adhere to societal norms.
The way ‘The Guardian’ describes London, the same could be said of many American cities. The causes are also the same — defunding, demoralizing, and demonizing the police while passing increasingly ineffective decriminalization laws and supporting insufficient policies for dealing with the mentally ill. We fixed this in New York for 25 years starting in the subway in the 90s. It can be easily fixed again, but won’t be because those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it. Mayor Dave Dinkins and City Council President Peter Vallone got it right in 1991 when they initiated the hiring of 6,000 more cops. In 1994, with the NYPD CompStat and Broken Windows policing initiatives, we made New York City the safest city in America, and that included its subways serving six million riders with only six felony crimes a day and minimal disorder. New Yorkers deserve and need a safe city once again.
