I had a kid tell me today that he had 3 brothers.
When I asked him if they were younger or older, he told me he had 2 older brothers & then a Golden Retriever who was younger than him.
If you're a TD who voted against supporting student nurses & midwives tonight, I want you to know I've taken it personally.
You've told me my profession isn't worth respect.
You've told me you don't care.
I'm only going to be voting for people who voted to support us.
Vaccination centres were moved to 12 hour shifts, open 7 days a week on very short notice without much additional staff hired.
I hope people realise the sacrifice vaccination centre staff are making to ensure that the boosters are rolled out as fast as possible.
Minister Stephen Donnelly just told the Seanad Éireann that he's been told "All student nurses have recieved their vaccine" as part of Cohort 2.
Minister
@DonnellyStephen
, none of my class have received vaccines at this time.
Stephen Donnelly tells Morning Ireland that antigen testing will not be made free. “If you subsidise an antigen test it’s money you’re not spending on a nurse.” He says the UK - where the NHS issues packs of seven for free - has been criticised for spending that scale of funds.
Thinking of all the incredible people working in
@roinnslainte
,
@HSELive
& NPHET. I left Dept 5 months ago; they had been working flat out for so long & they are still at it! We don’t say thank you enough. They are decent people doing their best everyday. Go raibh maith agaibh
18-34's talking about mRNA vs J+J or AZ vaccines, can I just please remind ye all.
Frontline health workers didn't get a choice of vaccine - they took the first & only one offered to them
Do yous even HEAR yourselves. Take the first vaccine you can get your hands on.
Hahahahaha as a student nurse I can't get a singular cent towards my travel expenses to hospital placement but the bankers can get their bonuses after they destroyed the country 🥰🥰🥰🥰
"How a nurse on €40k a year living in Dublin is saving for a house"
The secret? Have a partner who owns a place and pays that mortgage off from their housemate's rent.
Can we PLEASE run realistic articles please??
Just had someone without a mask on the bus scream abuse at me, get right up into my face & be very inventive with the threats he came up with
All because I look "Queer"
Thanks to the Dublin Bus driver who helped get him off the bus
Very thankful I've had my booster vaccine 😱
Got these in the post today.
About 250km away from me, my 85 year old Nanny is still finding a way to make sure my ears don't go sore from wearing masks in work 🙌
I remember vaccinating a pair of 20-something year olds who matched on Tinder and found out their vaccination appointments were around the same time on the same day, so they made it their first date.
Wonder if things worked out fot them 😂
"Money you're not spending on a Nurse"
I'm currently on placement where I get €0 allowances.
Nurses in Mayo are protesting because of work loads.
He's blatantly not spending it on Nurses

Share this if you're currently in a course who's 2021 points mean you wouldn't have gotten a place.
Trying to show something about the CAO points race.
I'm a male nursing student.
There are 71 people in my class. I'm one of two (2) male students. Two men studying General nursing, compared to 69 women.
Anyone who says this isn't a sexism issue doesn't know what they're talking about.
#EducationNotExploitation
Reminder that anyone who recieved a Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine can get an mRNA booster in any mass vaccination centre today, regardless of your age.
No queue currently in the Galway Racecourse.
I see our Tánaiste is once again pointing fingers.
Hi
@LeoVaradkar
, government said that the €100 a week for student nurses & midwives would be implemented in January, backpaid to September.
How come it's March & we still haven't seen or heard about a cent of it?
Still no student nurse pandemic placement grant in my bank account 💔
Stevie D you're breaking my heart 💔 You said Jan 31st 💔 and then June 1st 💔 But still nothing 💔

How would you commemorate the

1️⃣ Time-off for frontline workers
2️⃣ A monetary gift for frontline workers
3️⃣ Something else?
Have your say:
Robert Troy: I bought my first house at the age of 20.
Newly Qualified Nursing in 2022: Spending 65% of their wages on rent to simply work in Dublin
"Not privileged"
There's a housing crisis & I'm paying the highest 3rd level fees in the EU while also having to literally fight against the Taoiseach for recognition for proper supports as a student nurse.
But yeah, let's study Sinn Féin's past to distract from Fine Gael's present
Young voters should study Sinn Fein's past, says Fine Gael's Josepha Madigan 5,000 cases yesterday. How obnoxious can you be to assume that young voters are ignorant of their past to vote SF? No, I just want a place to live cuz of a housing crisis
Small thread on Student Nurses & Midwives at the moment in Ireland.
1 - We'll be going back on unpaid (Supernumerary) placement come September 1st.
Keep reading if you want to know what that means for us.
I dont think the public understand the immense logistics of evaucating 207 patients from one hospital to other hospitals who don't have any beds.
Thoughts with Wexford's staff, espexially the ambulance crews who'll have an immense task ahead of them
I'm a simple union man - I see a post about a strike, I share that post about a strike.
Everyone should share the living jaysis out of the posts from Ireland's

If you're unethical & dishonest as a nurse, there's consequences.
If you're unethical & dishonest as a postman, there's consequences.
Someone like this has absolutely no right to be in the position they're in
Lads I really, really, really cant put enough emphasis on the fact that this is 100% not true & they're throwing Trans people under the bus to distract you from their own failings.
Absolute cowards.
Fine Gael TDs are getting more emails on transgender issues than on the eviction ban, a private party meeting has been told.
Calls for a wider debate within the party on trans issues during what sources described as a “bizarre” and “weird” discussion

This time last year he was literally threatening the striking nurses & midwives with fines.
Still hasn't paid student nurses ork during the crisis.
His appreciation doesn't go any further than the odd bualadh bós
Can I just point out, once again, that every single student nurse and midwife in Ireland is disgusted at the Minister for health's insulting comment that we're not paid to protect our learning environment.
I've been using
@IrishRail
to get to work for the last few weeks.
Their staff have had to put up with some amount of abuse ensuring that only people with essential travel letters & ID to prove it actually board the train. They're all playing a blinder to

.
Student nurses shouldn't be taught that Operation Transformation is an example of a positive public health intervention.
There's no evidence that it is & plenty of both theory and evidence to show that it's very harmful. It shouldn't be used as an example in nursing lectures.
Pharmacies aren't the same as going into your local shop for milk - Prescribers make mistakes, particularly when it comes to medication interaction and you should really, really appreciate the safety met a pharmacist provides before dispensing.
“A doctor prescribes this medication because you’ve got a medical need, a pharmacist shouldn’t be asking you why you are using it”

Approx 91% of nurses & midwives in Ireland are women. The two professions are absolutely dominated by females.
This is how Minister Donnelly speaks to women & he's in charge of how the HSE treats these professions that are hugely female.
They never will be able to control the queues that form on walk-in days, because they're not scheduled.
But you best believe that a lot of their lives have been put on hold, a week away from Christmas, to ensure that as much people are protected before then as is possible.
35 hours on placement this week (plus 8 hours in total travelling for it) hits different when I remember I still have to work twi 12 hour shifts this weekend just so I can simply eat.
Stephen Donnelly still hasn't given student nurses & midwives any increase allowances.
Hi
@DonnellyStephen
You're due to address the INMO Annual Delegates conference next week
I'll be attending as Chairperson of the INMO student section & I'm looking forward to you explaining why the Government hasnt implemented the promised €100/wk for student nurses & midwives
Did another vaccination through ISL today.
Fills me with delight when I see someone's reaction to me having ISL - suppose the last thing they expect is their vaccinator to start signing to them 🙌
#LearnISL
Stephen Donnelly (
@DonnellyStephen
) & his Department of Health promised increased financial supports for Student Nurses & Midwives to be implemented bythe start of September.
It's now October and we've a month done on placement in a Cost of Living crisis with ✨nothing✨ done.
I know the communication around AZ was fucked, but plenty of people on placement / working in hospitals (like myself) had no choice but to take it - it was that or no vaccine.
PLEASE get a grip and choose a vaccine - you're literally getting a choice ffs
Student Nurses & Midwives are not going to be recieving €100 per week from September onwards.
There's no sign of the promised change to our allowances - I've sent this letter to Stephen Donnelly (
@DonnellyStephen
) last week and have yet to recieve a response.
Should mention that I'm totally okay! Just a fair bit disheartened & will probably be catching myself doing the internalised "do I look Queer?" while in public for the next while.
But I'm physically & mentally okay which is the main thing!
This man could easily be a Dublin secondary school teacher who has an All Ireland Medal from the 70's & is looking at the other Ex-Dublin panel teacher who doesn't have one
@MichealMartinTD
Hi Micheál,
Can student nurses & midwives also get the help we need to? Even a fraction of the speed with which Dublin Zoo has gotten help. We've been on the frontline since March.
Genuinely concerned that FG & FF might actually give gyms an exception to restrictions for "mental health", to take away from the fact that they're consistently defunded mental health services for well over a decade now.
No queue at the minute in the Galway Vaccination Centre at the Racecourse for Pfizer walk ins.
If you haven't received your first dose of a vaccine yet, now would be a very good time to come around to get your first!
Girls, if Conor McGregor told me to not lick the door handles at a COVID test centre, I'd absolutely lick the door handles. He's a spanner.
Can we please stop platforming him.
Can I also point out that the debate was the Labour Bill on Student Nurses.
It had nothing to do with vaccinations & the Minister offered up this false claim all by himself. Wasn't prompted.
Nursing in NUIG - 502 points.
I wonder how many current students or qualified nurses would have missed out on a place at this level?
Garunteed that some of the best nurses in Ireland wouldn't have had a chance - the CAO points race is blocking out some great future nurses.
A ward in CUH closes down due to COVID leaving only 4 nurses available on the roster.
Keep in mind that unpaid & undersupported nursing students are due out on placement as soon January 11th
I'll slap the next FF FG GP politician that mentions the words "Protecting education".
Me and the Girlies on the picket line 😳
Nurses & Midwives are doing this not only for ourselves, but for the people who rely on the HSE for their Healthcare.
We're fed up with our patients suffering because a lack of Government action.
Mícheál Martin (
@MichealMartinTD
) making a lot of promises for someone who is seemingly unable to implement any supports for student nurses & midwives 🤔
So much of the major issues right now could have been avoided if FG & FF had've treated Nurses & Doctors with respect over the last decade.
Instead they've crushed the core of the HSE - it's workers.
My grandmother was admitted to the Mater yesterday with complications to a Flu infection.
The staff there must be literal magicians - they somehow found a single room for her within 12 hours so that she didn't spend a single night on a trolley.
Spent a good proportion of today with a NURSE who was putting in bedside Ultrasound guided PICC lines & doing arterial lines while also on call for Intensive Care transports.
Just gonna brand that as ✨class✨
Student Nurses & Midwives are set to attend placement in face of another potential wave of COVID in Ireland.
Government still hasn't implemented a single extra support for us while on placement, even though they said they would have by January.
@davidcullinane
@DonnellyStephen
Even if the €100 a week is brought in for nursing & midwifery students (its not enough).
We'll only be able to access it AFTER a placement has finished.
How does it support a student during a placement if we can only access it after?
Not 👏 fit 👏 for 👏 purpose
Hi
@DonnellyStephen
How can the Department of Health justify the huge expenses incurred by Paul Reid's private travel, while the majority of student nurses and midwives are still entitled to ZERO allowance towards travel expenses?
