The project, part of the broader Riverfront Development (RFD) initiative, threatens over 𝟳,𝟰𝟬𝟬 trees for the 3 ongoing stretches of RFD, while also contradicting newly revealed flood risk data from the Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜), Nashik. With floodplain encroachments, debris dumping, and increased water levels now scientifically proven, citizens are calling for an 𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 30-𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙 to prevent a disaster in the making. 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 A shocking new MERI report, commissioned by the High Court, has revealed that previous PMC flood line calculations were dangerously underestimated, leading to illegal encroachments and flawed planning. - Floodwater levels for 100-year floods are 2.7 times higher than previously recorded. - Flood lines were deliberately shifted inward, allowing unsafe riverbank constructions. - The Mutha, Mula, and Mula-Mutha rivers face unprecedented flood risks, as flood discharge volumes have nearly doubled in some cases. These findings completely invalidate PMC’s plans for a road within the floodplain, making the project not just environmentally reckless but also a serious public safety hazard. Sarang Yadwadkar, an environmental activist and other petitioners of PIL 36/2021 have already urged PMC, PCMC, and the State Government to take immediate steps, including: - Removing all encroachments from riverbeds and floodplains. - Stopping debris dumping and illegal construction that exacerbates flooding risks. - Ensuring stricter flood line enforcement based on MERI’s updated data. The work on the 30-meter DP road has now begun, and environmentalists in Pune warn that this project poses a direct threat to both life and property. 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀: 𝗔 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 Beyond flood risks, the RFD project is poised to destroy over 7,400 trees across key riverbank stretches 9, 10, 11. Activists argue that permissions for tree felling were intentionally bundled together for both the 30-meter road and the RFD, preventing proper scrutiny. Ameet Singh, a concerned citizen, questioned, “𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥? 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴.” Citizens have proposed realigning the road to reduce tree loss, but PMC has ignored these alternatives, further fueling allegations of opaque decision-making. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗔 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 The 30-meter DP road is also poised to worsen Pune’s traffic chaos rather than ease it. - The road abruptly terminates at Bundgarden Chowk, one of Pune’s most congested zones. - Low clearances at bridges like Yerwada will bottleneck the new road, making it unusable during peak hours. - No traffic impact study has been conducted, despite clear risks of merging chaos. Singh stated, “𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘹. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬 A notice now clings to the trunk of this magnificent tree at the Burning Ghat in #KoregaonPark, Pune—a silent death sentence. Soon, it will be gone. And it’s not just this tree. Hundreds more in the area are being felled under the pretext of obstructing the so-called #RFD (Riverfront Development) Project and the 30-meter DP road. The people living here had no idea. The sound of chainsaws as one tree after another was brought down. It was only when the destruction began that they realized their beloved trees were next. Heartbroken and helpless, they did the only thing they could: they hugged the trees, whispering silent goodbyes to the very beings that had stood tall for centuries, providing shade, shelter, and life itself. One morning, an officer arrived, pasted a notice on the tree, and declared it an "obstruction." Obstruction? The real obstruction lies in the minds of those who design lifeless concrete jungles, ignoring the irreplaceable trees and the fragile ecosystem they support. With every tree that falls, Pune moves one step closer to a future of scorching heat and barren landscapes. If this massacre continues at the current pace, Pune will soon be unrecognizable—a dry, lifeless city gasping for breath. #Pune #KoregaonPark #Tree #Felling #RFD #Road @PuneRivers @MrMcgreely @navipeth @AngadPatwardhan @ameetgsingh @jbaphna @ultra__sonic @JSecretary_SCM @AjitPawarSpeaks

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 The only thing permanent in this world is the endless cycle of birth and death. Today, citizens of #Pune protested to stop the massacre of trees along the riverbanks. It is blatantly clear that these trees are being cut not for any genuine need but for land clearance, lucrative contracts, and financial gains under the so-called river beautification project. Do the people involved in this destruction—politicians, officials, contractors—realize that they are nothing but mentally deranged individuals? Do their families know this? Do they not understand that they too will die one day? No matter how luxurious one's lifestyle is, the money a person truly needs remains limited. Nature has enough to fulfill our needs, but the entire world is insufficient to satisfy human greed. Leo Tolstoy’s famous story, How Much Land Does a Man Need?, answers this question perfectly. People who destroy the very nature of the place they live in just to amass wealth—what else can they be called if not lunatics? This applies to all those who manipulate governments and systems to hoard wealth while ruthlessly exploiting nature and displacing people. The number of such mentally deranged individuals is increasing unchecked. And those who glorify them as "entrepreneurs," "leading industrialists," and "visionary business leaders" are equally deluded. These greed-driven lunatics, consumed by their own destructive hunger, are the greatest threat to the world today. The world's misfortune is that these very people are sitting on thrones, running governments across the globe. — Anand Shitole (Original text in Marathi, translated into English) #YourOwnHeadOnYourShoulders #ShamelessArrogance #StraightTalk #Insanity #Mindset #RFD #Tree #Felling
