Prof Emerita (Rutgers) who studied the queer civil rights movement and public schools. Now, I stir the political pot and fight against FASCISM. Atheist She/Hers
I REFUSED to participate in Rutgers active shooter drills. I am disabled. I can't run, I can't fight, I can't hide. I refused to spend time on a worthless exercise to support an on-going POLITICAL failure. These drills are legitimation rituals for the lethal status quo.
Major turn for the worse. Mom’s facility just called. COVID-19 is now in her lungs, and mom is gurgling (pneumonia and heart failure). She’s now on oxygen and the nurses asked if I wanted mom to be on morphine. Yes. So, it’s just a matter of time.
@thomaswright08
But Merkel is Putin's worst nightmare. A Ph.D. physicist, who grew up in East German, and is fluent in Russian. AND she's female. Putin hates her guts. Is the US ambassador to Germany doing Putin's bidding?
@michelledelong
@ElieNYC
Affirmative Action white gurl here! I was the first female hire in an historical MALE academic discipline. It didn't help that I was from Appalachia and queer. But my sheer presence changed our programs and eventually the field. But it was a bumpy 25 years.
And Mom died tonight, around 7:30 PM. It was a peaceful passing for which I am grateful (of course, she WAS getting morphine every 2 hours). Tomorrow, I will deal with everything. Thank you to everyone who sent condolences. You are a blessing to this atheist.
@PrezLives2022
They have him dead to rights on Campaign finance fraud. You can NOT get a free cup of coffee while campaign, you have to REPORT it. All of that help from the National Inquirer??? It was NEVER reported. THAT's Election fraud.
@vespertilioAJR
Remember that

replaced the heads of the Pentagon in December?? Hmmmmmm Then it took hours and hours for the National Guard to show up. HMMMMMM!
@AshleyGWinter
The research is that woman are NOT traumatized by abortion, instead years later, most are glad that they had an abortion at the time/s that they did. But the haters WANT it to be traumatizing--their fantasies aren't true.
@CharlesPPierce
@mkraju
And Parnas is going to keep showing up on TV, because he's rightly terrified of falling out of a window--He just threw FIRTASH under the bus.
@IlhanMN
Thank you Rep. Omar. I have been terrified since November 2016 of a Fascist attack on our institutions. That the Jan 6th attack was incited by a US President??? Despicable. Yeah, it's Congress' duty to impeach and remove. Thank you!
@HoarseWisperer
My wife and I are immune suprressed, so chasing groceries is a bad idea. Additionally our part of NJ isn't served by the delivery services. So, our neighbors make our grocery runs. We are not to even think about it (so they ordered us, LOL). That they are immigrants is glorious!
Pay attention folks: President Biden has declared that the war in Ukraine *IS* Genocide. This was the justification for NATO intervening in Yugoslavia. I suspect NATO is headed into Ukraine in the near future.
@RachelBitecofer
@CapehartJ
@NicolleDWallace
I'm bracing to sob my eyes out at 5:30. My mom died of Covid in May. Lung bleed, drowned in her own blood. And we had a president who didn't give a good god-damn about any of it.
@joncoopertweets
There is NO constitutional remedy for that. We must adhere to the rule of law--especially when Trump did not. Instead, expand the court, and investigate the Justices for possible corruption.
@brikeilarcnn
Yup. Parents of disabled children SHOULD sue the Gov, and also sue him personally. His claim of "sovereign immunity," since he's not basing this decision on science, should withstand any legal scrutiny. DeathSantis is NOT a king.
@CharlesPPierce
No, I firmly disagree. In an age of oligarchy, it's really the ONLY way to confront those who abuse the every-day Americans. Oligarchs have direct access to Mitch (Koch brothers). But confrontations in restraints are a perfectly FINE way of holding the powerful to account.
@CharlesPPierce
And don't lecture me on voting, when this is the party that is of, by and for voter suppression. Until we have a constitutional right to vote and have that vote COUNTED, urging "civility" when the oligarchs are STOMPING, is at best condescending.
@JRubinBlogger
Thank you! Platitudes are not policy. And policy, real public policy is HARD work. So, the "No Labels" crowd has always struck me as a collection of white collar grifters. They aren't really interested in governing. Honestly, one version of the GOP is quite enough.
@paulkrugman
Actually, I would STRENUOUSLY argue that my cats have a much better understanding of basic "supply" and "demand" than your average GOP House member. Just saying....
@matthewjdowd
As someone who is immune-compromised, surgical masks have become my new fashion accessory. I'll wear them every time I have to wear shoes.
@MarkJacob16
PS: "Mountain Dew" was Hillbilly code for Moonshine. Seriously. Here's our version: "Love that Mountain Dew, dew, dew. And them that refuse it is few, (darned few!). Oh the buzzards in the sky get so drunk they cannot fly, just from smelling that good ol Mountain Dew."
@AliVelshi
I'm sorry to hear this. My two sisters in laws worked at CNN--one in NYC, the other in Atlanta. They both got laid off a few years ago. Therese had 25+ years in. *SIGH!* Plantation capitalism is so cruel.
@Acosta
Here's a possible scenario on the federal shutdown. Nothing happens until the new House is seated. Then the original bill that PASSED the Senate unanimously is reintroduced in both chambers. Trump can veto, and then be over-ridden. Trump's so screwed....
@AVindman
@natsechobbyist
You do know that Biden could be saying one thing publicly, and then using the CIA to do something very different. Just saying.
@MSignorile
Yeah, my wife, who is far more kind than me, was laughing with glee as his combover fell apart. He looked week, snarlish, and FURIOUS that his great show feel to pieces. It wasn't even Leni Riefenstahl on a bad day.....
@prestidp
Thank you so much for reaching out (and for doing what you are doing professionally.) Mom will probably pass today. And yes, thank goodness of morphine. COVID-19 is an absolute horror.
@jheil
@RepCummings
He continued to fight for the American dream even after he was given a terminal diagnosis. Not sure how many others could do that.
@RepCommings
legacy now must be carried forward.
I am officially on leave/sabbatical until July 1, 2021. At that point, I will retire. I'm just sitting in gratitude for all of my students and colleagues who made the last 24 years a gas. Thank you!!
@JoyceWhiteVance
Thirty years ago, when I was a Ph.D. student in the College of Education, my male colleagues tended to call female professors by their first names, but used "Dr. Jones" to address the male faculty. Numb-headed stuff like this is so very toxic.
@GOPLeader
@DonaldJTrumpJr
Uhm, didn't you laugh about the Russian influence with Trump and Roherbacher, noting it was TRUE??? Uhm.... You have a big old glass house on all of this, bubba.
@ASlavitt
Yes, please. I'm fairly cynical about developing a vaccine for this highly complex virus. I'm also waiting on the HIV vaccine that was promised in 1986, so yeah. See cynical.
@ElieNYC
AG Tish James is completely awesome. She ran a clean investigation (by hiring outsiders), that is legally and political unavailable. I look forward to see what drops from her office on

@amjoyshow
@JRubinBlogger
The Kremlin hacked Lindsey Graham's e-mail account. I suspect his private info has been shared with Trump. That's what happened.
@clairecmc
That place is one FUGLY mess. I prefer our humble townhome, which is far more energy efficient and I get to live right next door to the best neighbors in the world.
@HoarseWisperer
Historian of education here: Of COURSE she was fired. It was utterly routine for districts to fire pregnant teachers because they believed pregnant teachers would give female students "ideas." This did not begin to change until the passage of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
@nhannahjones
Since it's foundational for most professional schools (ed, social work, etc), I'm really enjoying the collective conservative bed wetting. It also shows how intellectually moribund modern conservatism has become.
Tomorrow is my very last faculty meeting at Rutgers University. My first was in September 1990 at Grand View College. It's been a great ride, but it's time for me to do something else. So, I will.
@GenMhayden
Mine too! Most of my neighbors are immigrants, who kept me free from COVID-19 last year (I was put in the "grocery pool."--immune compromised).
@leahmcelrath
I understand from family members (who served in the USN), and friends who served, that the Navy has long had problem with suicide--higher than the other services. It's an ugly two-for. TOUGH sea duties, a culture of denial, real isolation.
@DrYoFiggy
I am utterly disgusted. The careers she stole, trashed, etc. The truth ALWAYS matters. If we don't have truth as scholars, it is all for naught. And that begins with each scholar. It's despicable.
@michaelharriot
The people crying about Clark NOT making the team haven't watched the pro-women play. She's not as good as the veterans. If they deigned to watch the pro game, these whiners would see that.
@owillis
Finally. I can't believe they weren't immediately busted when they broke National Security protocols by bringing in their cells. You and I, my friend, would have had our collective phones and noses broken.
@henrymcmaster
No, she's in SC to bail out your terrible COVID efforts. It's the FIRST reason we will not move to SC in retirement though that HAD been the plan. Our home town's vaccination rate is at 70% and NJ is at 51% (for 12 and over). Can your state match that? Hmmmm? I'm listening.....
@JRubinBlogger
I'm over the moon with Harris as the VP pick. I didn't realized how DEMORALIZED this presidency of, by, and for Christian Nationalism had made me. It's a very happy day.
Please read this entire thread. When the GOP babbles on about "mental health" after a gun-fueled massacre, they are GASLIGHTING us. The issues are white supremacy and the guys who own guns to enforce it.
The folk who blame mental illness for terrorist shooting attacks should be forced to delineate which specific mental illnesses they think are responsible for radicalizing all these White men into mass murderers. Make them cite the DSM criteria and applicable treatment options.
