I don't have children, but I have flown a lot. The mother was probably worn out from getting her children ready and packed at home, the drive there, luggage check in, TSA screening, etc.

I know these get made fun of, but the old USGI Load Bearing Vest from the late 1990s/early 2000s are so cheap on Ebay and online surplus stores. For entry level these are hard to beat.

Our defense budget is already +$800 billion per year. Probably $1 trillion if you count CIA & NSA budgets and aid to Ukraine. I think the interest on our federal debt is at +$700 billion this year. Add in SS and Medicare and this all becomes unsustainable.
