THERE'S A REASON WHY THE REDPILL TELLS MEN TO BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT MARRIAGE. And no, it's not because we want them to be alone and miserable. It's because we don't want them to be divorced, financially crippled, separated from their children, and alone and miserable.

Did not know: Rural America, too, has seen a surge in violent crime. “I’ve never seen these numbers before,” said one South Carolina sheriff about homicides. Homicide rates in 2020: ✔️rose 25% in rural America ✔️rose 30% in urban America via @WSJ

WOW: 1. “Staggering” “25.2% mortality increase over nine years” for young adults (25-34) in America — with deaths surging also in *2020*. Not primarily COVID but homicides and drug overdoses seem to be likely causes, writes @foxjust

The power of marriage💍 in men's lives👇🏽 “It’s no coincidence I have enjoyed my best years with Kylie by my side. She has brought the best out of me through love, devotion, support, honesty, intelligence, and a swift kick in the ass—from time to time." ~ @JasonKelce

Big part of rising drug deaths story is the collapse of marriage in American working class. Overdoses have surged among single, never married, and divorced working-class Americans, as this JEC figure indicates:

A better child tax credit won't fix the problem. Nor paid parental leave or childcare. Not even more affordable housing. Our family problem is primarily cultural. @FT : "Birth rates are falling in Nordics. Are family-friendly policies no longer enough?"

“US suicides hit an all-time high last year” Durkheim would not be surprised. Dramatic declines in marriage, childbearing & community mean millions of Americans are disconnected from the social ties that protect us from ultimate act of hopelessness.

Whoa: Male labor force participation has fallen *below* the Great Depression. What are these men doing? “There’s a lot of staying at home… they report…‘watching’—being in front of screens 2,000 hours a year, like that’s their job.” ~Nicholas Eberstadt

Even though an increasing number of Americans think otherwise, marriage trumps career when it comes to predicting the happiness of ordinary men and women. Today's NYTimes offering a preview of my forthcoming book:

I was raised by a single mom. Yes, a "'Broken Home' Didn't Break Me" & doesn't break most kids. That's what the science tells us. But this innumerate article ignores what science also says. "Broken Homes" dramatically raise kids' odds of ✔️Poverty ✔️Prison ✔️School failure

1. New from @lymanstoneky & me: "You would think Minnesota is a mecca for families, judging by adulatory press coverage Gov. @Tim_Walz 's family policy in state has received. But MN isn’t a magnet for families w children: quite the opposite, in fact." 🧵

The rate of antidepressant use among 12-25 year olds increased 66% over 6 years. That's 6 years, not 60 years. Literally 2016-2022. This is insane.
