Today makes 100 lbs gone. When I look at the man on the left I don’t see myself anymore. The man on the left was depressed, wallowing in self pity, and drinking every day to cope with the fact that I have a severely special needs child. Literally taking Maci’s ailments, and acting as though they were mine instead of hers. How selfish of me! How SICK of me! Sure, I will have to take care of her for the rest of my life but that somehow, in my messed up mind gave me an excuse to pity and abuse myself. But the truth is, even if Maci would have been born perfect, I would have found a different excuse. “Oh I’m a busy dad, I have 4 kids, I work full time, I travel a lot. Blah blah blah.” The man on the right is different. The man on the right really would “Do anything for his children.” I will take care of my body for my children. I will stay active for my children. I will LIVE for my children. The man on the right is a changed man. And changed men are dangerous. Because they have already lived one life. They have lived a past life and deliberately made a choice to live another with more purpose and more intention. They may not have been born with the character of their new self, but character earned is sometimes stronger than character you were born with. Because it’s been tested. I am eternally grateful to the folks on this app who’ve inspired me in the shadows. I may not have reached out to you but just know, I was watching. A lot of us are. But those who took a more active role, thank you @freedooksX , @boydmyers , and @BowTiedOx for doing what you do.
