One of the proudest moments of my life voting for myself in Clapham & Brixton Hill in a General Election.
To everyone who has crossed the box for me and the
@LibDems
today — thank you. Your support means the world, and I’m so grateful 🔶
Some personal news — I’m delighted to announce I’ve been selected by
@LambethLibDems
to run for Clapham Common & Abbeville ward in the Local Elections next year! There’s lots to do — but the whole team is relishing the challenge. Let’s do this🔶
I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as the
@LibDems
candidate for Clapham and Brixton Hill for the upcoming General Election!
Thanks so much to all the members who voted for me in the selection process — I can’t wait to get started! 🔶
Tiverton and Honiton covered in stakeboards. Great to get down there today — got a good feeling about this one... Go follow
@RichardFoordLD
for updates!
People’s Vote are clear. Best for Britain are clear. Deltapoll findings are clear. And the Guardian have recognised these trends — if you want to beat the Conservatives in the Cities of London and Westminster: Vote for
@ChukaUmunna
and the Lib Dems.
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome
@EdwardJDavey
to Clapham Common & Abbeville last night. We had a fantastic response on the doorstep — change really is in the air here.
Fancy helping the team out? 🔸
The violent homophobic attack in Clapham this weekend is an affront to our community's values of inclusion and acceptance. I stand in solidarity with the victims and all LGBTQ+ residents. Hate has no place here. 🏳️🌈
After six knackering weeks, I’m finally heading home from Brecon and Radnorshire. Overturning a safe seat of 8,000 into a headache for the PM. We absolutely smashed it and I can’t wait to see
@DoddsJane
on the green benches. On to the next one.
I had an
@WminsterLibDems
door knocker today - Benny got hugged! Really pleased to have someone I actually want to vote for in the upcoming
#GE2019
, I know in many other areas it’s a choice between the least worst option. Good luck Chuka! 🧡
Great to be in North Shropshire ahead of the by-election on Thursday. The seat is more than in play. Millie the dog came too but was sadly assigned clerical work…🔸
#NorthShropshire
What an amazing night for our party!
I’m over the moon that we came an excellent 2nd in Clapham & Brixton Hill. Thank you so much to those who put their faith in us.
Many congratulations to
@BellRibeiroAddy
who fought a great campaign amidst tough personal circumstances.
I'm so happy to share that my great friend Fareed will be our candidate for the upcoming Vauxhall by-election. Faz is one of the best people I know–and he'll make an amazing councillor. Do come join us for some campaigning – Polling Day is 5 October! 🔶
Absolutely delighted that
@TfL
have committed to introducing a safe pedestrian crossing at the junction of Clapham South Side and Cavendish Road. This is a very welcome step in the right direction – with the ultimate goal remaining a full re-structuring of the Clapham gyratory.
Lovely weather for listening to voters on their doorsteps yesterday, with sessions in Didcot, Milton, and Grove. Very little love for either the Conservative Government or Labour, and many people looking for fresh ideas and representation.
Yesterday afternoon saw another closure of Clapham South tube station – this time from just after 2pm until the end of service.
This is unacceptable, and as such I have written today to
@TfL
asking them to conduct a review as to why these issues keep happening to our station.
Great to be down with fellow Clapham Common campaigner Fareed at the
#makingvotesmatter
stall in Clapham Town. Electoral reform is a critical step in restoring faith in our democracy. We’ll definitely be doing a similar stand on Abbeville Road or Southside in the next few weeks!
My mates and I have started a football history podcast (
@TheSchoolofball
) and released our first episode today. On our first ep, we've got the incredible Tony Carr, former Head of Youth Development at West Ham during the golden ‘90s era…
It’s been a long and often bruising 1,441 days since Cameron called a referendum to solve a Conservative Party crisis. We worked hard, but in the end it didn’t work out for our side. Let’s make the best of the situation and come together — Remainer or Leaver. #🇪🇺🇬🇧
@Vijay_Rajan1
Hi,
Clapham South: Closed - This station is closed due to the unavailability of station staff. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.
Thank you, ^Mk.
Only
@ChukaUmunna
and the Lib Dems can beat the Conservatives here in the The City of London and Westminster — even with tactical voting, Labour fall short. Pro Europeans of all political colours must rally around the most likely candidate to win,more here:
Amazing to be back out on the doorsteps ahead of the mayoral election here in Westminster. Great reaction on the doorsteps in Marylebone.
#LondonLibDems
Great to be down in Carshalton yesterday supporting the great
@Bobby_Dean
— alongside the legendary John Medway, formerly a councillor in Lambeth.
Residents full of positivity and kind words for Bobby!
@SuttonLibDems
Don't normally post comment but this is madness. Front page of BBC News – geopolitical chaos, UEFA taking responsibility (for once), girl survives earthquake and teenager stabbed to death – but Queen Consort having *COVID* is given same elevation... am I missing something here??
Ensuring we get more houses built across the UK needs to be a top priority for all political parties. We are in the midst of a major crisis and our party must lead the way 🔶
I urge Lib Dem friends to sign this amendment:
We’re working on two very important amendments to the housing policy paper at conference - but we still need signatures to make sure we get these onto the conference agenda - please sign our amendments here:
Christine Jardine
@cajardineMP
is running for Party President! She has my full support and delighted to nominate her for President this morning — nobody deserves it more!
#CrazyforChristine
Very concerning stats from the
@FT
about Lambeth’s recovery from the pandemic. Lambeth has the 2nd worst recovery from the pandemic when measured by change in in-person spending. Lambeth Council must outline their plan for tackling this — before it’s too late.
Two weeks to go in the Cities of London and Westminster. In two weeks, residents will choose between Boris Johnson’s Brexit backing candidate and the Pro-EU, Chuka Umunna. If you believe we’re better off in the European Union - come and help us today.
A major incident has been declared in
@Ijoneswilliams
and I's ward of Clapham Common & Abbeville.
If you think you saw anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously – please call 999 and quote the reference: 7790/31 Jan.
A woman and two children were injured in a suspected corrosive substance attack in Lessar Ave

this evening.
An extensive crime scene is in place & the police helicopter is up while we investigate.
Can you help us? ☎️ 999 ref 7790/31 Jan.
We didn't make it this time, but we had a cracking time giving it a shot. The activists that joined us are a credit to the party and to Chuka. It's always darkest before dawn and we've got to go again.
#TeamChuka
I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved - trebling our share of the vote in Cities of London & Westminster - and cannot thank all our wonderful
@LibDems
members and volunteers enough for their tremendous efforts. More thoughts on last night here ➡️
What an honour to meet
@Aiannucci
last night watching the Death of Stalin in Concert. Easily the funniest comic in British history and a really nice guy to boot.
We were desperately sad to hear of the passing of Councillor Jarnecki last week. I didn’t know Liam personally, but I’ve heard nothing but lovely things over the past few days. We are sending our thoughts to his family, friends and colleagues.
Back on the BBC website…what a day this was — hasn’t stopped greedy investors from proceeding with Super League-like plans though.
When the time comes, fans will be back on the streets again — I wonder if future projects will last longer than 48 hours next time…
Plans announced today to consult on the closure of Clapham's post office. I do not agree with the assessment made – and I urge residents to make their thoughts known. I will be holding a meeting with the consultation team in the coming weeks. More below ⬇️
VAR has completely and undoubtedly ruined the fun of Premier League football. Celebrations are now pointless - watch as the atmosphere is sucked from stadiums bit by bit. No point in celebrating if all these decisions are overruled. Worst idea in the history of the game.

🚨 Few people are aware of these proposed cuts. We need to register our opposition to the withdrawal of the Day Travelcard. Please share far and wide! 🚨
New blog! The only way for children outside London to receive a discount on
@TfL
services is to create a TfL account, apply for a Zip Card, wait for the application to be approved & the card to be posted.
Seems... complicated and unnecessary👇
A new independent regulator, tighter financial regulation and an improved owners’ and directors’ test were among the recommendations of the long-awaited fan-led review into English football.
But how wide-ranging will change really be?

@PJBuckingham

@mjshrimper
explain.
In other news — it was great to be out with
@CamdenLibDems
supporting
@LCinNW
for the Hampstead Town by-election yesterday. Plenty of posters to be found!
Delighted to give comment in support of
@TfL
’s new service proposals with my
@CBTransport
hat on.
Any expansion of bus services, anywhere, is a step in the right direction.
Through the amazing
@CarolinePidgeon
– we now have stats on Clapham South's closures.
This is unacceptable, and urgent questions need to be asked of TfL – this is an issue confined to a limited number of stations, Clapham South being one of them.
Insane to have to write this in the world’s 5th largest economy but freezing temperatures can be deadly for thousands of homeless people across Britain. Please give, if you’re able, to
@Tell_StreetLink
to identify and shelter those at risk.
Action needs to be taken on Selby House — where the lifts have been out of action for over 30 (yes, thirty) years.
Vulnerable residents continue to suffer — and things cannot go on. We need to get those lifts in as soon as possible.
You can't help but laugh at the astounding amount of corruption in practice here. The saddest part of it is that this deceit doesn't even surprise people anymore! 10/20 years ago this would have been newsworthy for weeks - but it'll be forgotten about by the weekend. Grim.
Everyone at
@CBTransport
is so delighted that plans to withdraw the Day Travelcard were reversed. This will bring certainty to businesses, protect against sharp fare rises and serve as a shining endorsement of integrated ticketing.
Here's how we did it:
@TheRestHistory
As an actual Lib Dem Councillor — although admittedly not from Nuneaton — I thought I’d chime in with a question.
Of all the heroes and villains mentioned in the first half — who’s getting the furthest in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here?

Best way to get over Boris winning? Turn your anger into determination and help us to reduce his majority! Come down to Brecon and Radnorshire this weekend.

Great to see
@LosDomingosLDN
tearing down the house song after song in the bright sunshine at the

Summer Bandstand concerts.
They’re on almost every Saturday and Sunday from now until the end of Summer — 2-4pm. And it’s completely free!
