Fun fact: In the first 24 hours, customers from 70+ countries have paid with stablecoins through
@Stripe
Today, we just expanded access, so if you're a US merchant on Stripe, check your Stripe dashboard and turn on "Pay with Crypto"!
In just 6 months, I worked with
@justinkan
to grow his YouTube channel to 130,000+ subs!
I know that quite a few founders and VCs who also want to start creating on YT
Definitely not an expert, but here are some of the key ideas and things that I learned that helped us grow:
Do I know any founders who are raising their first round (angel or pre-seed) and are interested in an untraditional fundraising process?
DM me and tag them!!
Is there a YC for web3?
Curious who will fill the space identifying the top, high-signal web3 startups
It looks like right now, it's probably startups who have raised from the top web3 venture firms and the backgrounds of the founders
We're hiring for a growth PM on Stripe Crypto!
We've been heads down building some awesome products empowering web3 developers and enabling real world use cases for crypto, and we want to keep our foot on the gas on growth
Who should we talk to?
Today, we announced that
@stripe
will allow merchants to accept crypto payments...again - this time with stablecoins!
Coming to you this summer, so let us know if you're interested!
Did anyone else just learn that the same company does
@LoganPaul
's Maverick Club,
@nelkboys
' Send Club, and
@mikemajlak
's upcoming private community?
--> Basically for creator-labeled communities/Patreons
Imagine if there was a
@LambdaSchool
model for Solidity/smart contract developers
The company could have students paying back via their income or equity in whatever project they're building
And could double as a crypto VC
A talented friend of mine (background is McKinsey, PE, but also product / eng experience) is looking for a new job in crypto/web3!
She's hoping to join in a chief of staff / strategy / bizops role, ideally at a Series A or later stage company.
Who should she talk to?
A friend of mine is raising $$ for their esports startup! They've had great traction with 6,000 bookings in the last 6 months with 50% MoM growth
They filled 65% of their round and are looking for strategic investors to join
Who should they talk to?

Super excited to share what I've been working on recently:
@Stripe

As a web3 developer, you can embed the onramp in ~10 lines of code right inside your dapp, wallet, NFT marketplace, etc!
BIG thank you to the team and all of our pilot partners! 💙

Drop culture becoming ubiquitous. So what's next? I think it'll be "seasons," which is a time boxed experience that is longer than a drop, but still has an expiration date
A few folks have been asking me how I built the creator economy community, so I figured I'd share my top 3 tips for building an engaging community! :)
Here are just a few of the tips that I've learned from my experience 👇
First message I've ever got from
@justinkan
was about wontons lol
A year ago today, I sent Justin a DM about how I could work with him on content and I'm so grateful that he took a chance on me to start his YT and TikTok
🥺🥺
3.3 MILLION views?! 🤯 Thanks for all the love yesterday!
Which merchants do you think we should be talking to about turning on stablecoin payments this summer?
Crypto is back.
@Stripe
will start supporting global stablecoin payments this summer. Transactions instantly settle on-chain and automatically convert to fiat. Join the waitlist and watch the demo (h/t
@Solana
) from Sessions.
Watching

1. Reached out to VCs to break into the industry out of college. Interned at

"Our lives were changed by pressing publish"
In our Clubhouse room today,
@ColinandSamir
announced that they're starting Publish, a new company to educate the next generation of creators
Newsletter first, then courses for creators --> extension of their content into products
Guess who passed the 5M total views on YouTube mark?
Your favorite founders favorite founder and aspiring vlogger with the good hair,
@justinkan
!!
Wooo, thanks for all the support everyone! 🙏
We know that we can't make Twitch content forever, but that drew in the audience that we built a relationship with. Now these are all the content formats that we've built to last:
-Storytimes
-Startup advice
-Life advice
-OnlyFriends
-Roasting startup pitches
-Vlogs
-Shorts
One of the cleanest mobile onramp flows out there (I'm biased!), and not surprised it's on
@family
Huge thanks to

@0xChristina

Clear and beautiful
You're going to see more and more investors get into creating content and/or media arms
The demand for video editors, podcast producers, social media strategy, and anything production related who also love tech and startups is wild
Are you interested in minting an NFT?
Here are some best practices that I learned from minting Certified Justin Kan Stories aka
@justinkan
's YT video NFTs
(These are the tips that I wish I knew going into it LOL)👇
Okay hear me out:
@stir
for NFTs
Basically, as a creator who collaborates with another creator on an NFT, how can I split the revenue and the royalty from reselling easily so it automatically just goes to everyone's ETH wallets?
A lot of platforms, like Clubhouse and Twitter, are enabling tipping and other kinds of creator monetization
But what if you could handle all of your money as a creator from one account?
The same account for receiving tips from CH, brand deal $, and Shopify merch sales 👀
Creator-market fit is something that has to be maintained and can cause creator burnout due to the pressures of upkeep (from
@ljin18
)
It's like the creator version of technical debt
It would be a lot of fun if YouTube allowed creators to customize thumbnails for different types of their audience
Kinda like how Netflix changes the thumbnail depending on your user behavior
In the past year, I've noticed this change in YouTube where the algo isn't punishing creators for trying different types of content, unlike the past where creators would create second channels to try out experimental content
This means don't be afraid of experimenting
Been thinking about how to share more of what I've learnt from building communities
If you were to take a course on how to build communities, what would you want to learn?
Is back? 👀
Breaking the news that I've been working w/
@justinkan
on his new
@YouTube
channel! We've got exciting videos about , Twitch, startups, VC, + more. Launching 1/28!
Don't miss out and subscribe!
How do you experiment? As an MVP, we'd try content ideas on Twitter/TikTok first to see what the audience is resonating with (even if the audiences are slightly different)
Also, make sure you talk to your audience in the comments and messages to see what they're vibing with
Omg this is so cool! 👉 "Jen...the founder of a popular creator economy community on Discord."
I never thought that starting a community would lead to so many things, such as a small quote in a NYT article. Our little corner of the internet is on the map!

In the spirit of the
@MrBeastYT
Clubhouse room, I went back and edited my thumbnail for our new video for
@justinkan
YT channel, which comes out Thursday! 🤞
Here's the sneak peek, and go sub if you haven't already:
2. Figuring out what type of content you put out: The key thing to remember is that your first piece of content doesn't have to dictate the rest of your content.
These tips probably mainly apply to the niche of founders and VCs who are looking to start on YouTube and honestly is just a stream of consciousness of my latest thoughts.
I think I'm missing a lot, so let me know if I should write up another thread on this lol
Paraphrased a bit, but I 100% love what
@ljin18
said on Clubhouse just now:
~Creators aren't immune to financial pressures, and consumers need to step up to realize the value that they're providing to society
Now with 1300+ members and inspired by Means of Creation by from
@ljin18
and
@nbashaw
, I started a
@Discord
community to bring anyone interested in the creator/passion economy space together!
I've made new friends, gathered cool insights, so join here!
3. Make sure you know what your goal/mission is: For us, it's creating content that is inspirational, educational, and gives the audience a behind-the-scenes look to Justin's experiences.
Play to your strengths here! What have you gotten questions about constantly? What's asymmetric info do you know that other people don't?
For Justin, it was behind-the-scenes stories behind Twitch, especially when they were selling Twitch to Google/Amazon.
6. Figure out if you're a personality-based or idea-based creator to use that to pick your style: For Justin, he's definitely a personality-based creator because his personality is a feature and not a bug in his videos.
cc:
@ColinandSamir
for their framing
Word on the street is OnlyFans is poaching engineers from FANG with $$$ offers
Fun facts:
- All hiring happens via subsidiaries
- OF's top creator earns $20M per year with 143 posts
- Grew from 60K creators in 2019 to 1M in 2020
- Growing > 100K users/day
OMG
@justinkan
just hit 50K on YouTube exactly 8 weeks after we launched the channel!
Go subscribe because we got way more videos coming soon for you all:
If I were YouTube, I'd bring back YouTube Inbox, but instead of focusing on messaging, I'd let creators use it to:
- Engage with their fans and build free/paid communities
- Message subscribers who win giveaways w/ secure ways to give contact info
If you're building in crypto, you gotta just ship
This space moves so quickly, so it's doubly important to get your product out to your community to get feedback and iterate
4. Thumbnail, title, but also first 5-30 seconds: To figure out what style your thumbnail should be, get some inspiration from other creators who inspire you. Think of multiple titles as options and try to think about what language your audience would use to describe your video
Omg I hit 3K followers! Also wow, look at all those 8s🥠
Means a lot that hopefully some people find what I say on here valuable...or at least somewhat interesting lol
Is there a "Yelp/Glassdoor" for DAOs?
I feel like a lot of people want to join a DAO, but for those that have a token gated entry, it's tough to get a sense of the vibe
Most people would ask a member to describe their experience, but this way, it'll be more transparent
I feel so lucky that I come across so many great founders and startups in the creator economy, plus it seems like they're always hiring!
So if you're a product person, engineer, designer, sales, biz dev person, etc looking for a job, DM me and I might have some suggestions!
So apparently early Feb 2020,
@garyvee
pulled
@MrBeast
,
@LoganPaul
, and "billionaires" into a call to convince them to buy CryptoPunks
And MrBeast bought 8 of them, which 20-30x, and then rolled that $$ into
@veefriends
👀
It was my birthday recently, so I returned to my food blogging roots and made myself a cake
Literally cannot believe that this time last year, I barely started on Twitter, Discord was 1 month old, and the Justin wonton DM just happened 😛
So thankful for all of you!!
Guess what?! We have a creator economy job board curated by myself and your (hopefully) favorite creator economy community

on Creator Economics. Some key takeaways:
1. "The entire goal for 100T is I want this brand and company...to be the definition of pop culture within gaming."
Very very interesting...
Creators use YouTube to build an audience that some convert to paying subscribers to private content and Netflix is basically doing the exact same for their anime content
How it started and how's it going!
Glad you ended up knocking
@ColinandSamir
's socks off!!
Congrats
@MaxLowenthal
!! Soo proud of you! I've been waiting to write this tweet for months
Then, make sure you iterate on your first 5 and first 30 seconds to make that part the most engaging pieces of the video.
All of this will help with average view duration and click-through rate.
Reply with a company that you think isn't a part of the creator economy and I'll try to see if I could come up with a way for them to break in 👀
(All in good-natured fun and brainstorming)
I was talking to a team of co-founders today and asked them at the end, "What do you need help with? Like product feedback, recruiting help, intros, or anything?"
And they said, "no one has asked us that before!"
That's wild to me 🤯
Imagine if
@squarespace
,
@Wix
, or
@WordPress
launched a NFT site template where NFT creators can drag and drop to spin up a site
Template elements could include:
- Connect to wallet
- Mint button
- Traits
- Roadmap
- Gallery
- FAQ
- About
- Team
5. Engage with other creators in your space: Leave kind comments and engage with other creators in the same space. Hopefully, that could even lead to collabs, which really help put you on the map
A friend of mine is looking for a new Ops job in the creator economy!
They've helped content creators build infrastructure to support tens of 1000s of fans, have experience scaling Ops teams in big tech, and love gaming+crypto
Which startups should they talk to?
Because that's the case, I spent a lot of time creating the vibe for Justin via the editing. He's chill and funny, so we always think about how we can incorporate memes, Silicon Valley clips, thought bubbles, captions to break up the educational content
Members of our Creator Economy Community have been taking it upon themselves to host in person meetups!
So far, there's been events in NYC, SF, and UK!! Thank you for all the members who are such an awesome and active part of the community!

going public via a SPAC for $1 billion and now Cocomelon getting bought for $3 billion
To put into perspective, YouTube sold to Google for $1.65B and Twitch sold to Amazon for $970M

WE JUST HIT 100K IN THE

- We're doing the largest airdrop in

Who should they be talking to?
So proud of this team 💙
Today,
@fractalwagmi
announced a $35M seed round led by AMAZING investors
It's been super cool to be a part of this amazing community and just know that you're all still early
Blockchain gaming is bringing the next generation of gamers into crypto
Imagine if someone built an extensible, developer-friendly search for messages that platforms can use
Ideally, with not too many lines of code, you can finally magically search your DMs in Twitter, Discord, and Messenger 10x easier
Li's teaching creators how to be angel investors! This is very cool and hopefully not only will creators feel good about angel investing, but also take these skills to evaluate which equity-based partnerships/brand deals with companies makes the most sense
So proud that
@justinkan
's YouTube channel reached 10K subs after 18 days! Thank you all for the support🥺
Go sub if you haven't already to claim your virtual "here before 50K" bragging rights lol:
If you're truly building a community, seeing members make connections with other members is gold!
1 signal that this is happening? When people start tagging other members when they know a topic is relevant to them
