There was an April, in which the Pirates won 3 series to start the year and proceeded to go 5-16 to settle at 10-18 on the morning of May 2nd
During the 21 game stretch, the Pirates offense struggled and scored under 3 runs per game
The year? 2014. Worked out ok for them 👍

Braxton Ashcraft is gonna shove some in the show this year. I've been saying it since last fall, 98-99 FB, 90-91 slide piece and a 5 ft curve ball clocking at 80
Plus command. Last year in 52.2 IP he only walked 11 with 63 Ks, almost 6:1!!

Ji Hwan Bae got on base 109x wearing a Pirates uniform in '23 and scored 54 runs. A ~50% run rate when on base
His OBP was ~.300...so 15% of his ABs ended up in him scoring. For context Acuna led the bigs last year with an 18% clip

It's really wild. His focus is off the charts. Tim Williams did a great article on nanofocus and how much extra time a 3B has to focus vs other positions and how it drains plate focus...but with time that focus bucket increases (Viola, bats alive in 2023!)

Looking to go 8-0 with Mr Joe in the lineup. He went 1-5 yesterday with his lone hit a single. Still has a .980 OPS. Obviously it'll dip, likely settling under .800 but he's been the consummate professional so far this year
