I didn’t really feel it at the time, I actually liked the movie when it came out. But as time has gone on and I’ve really thought about it, I think it’s just 2+ hours of cruelty and carelessness towards Freddie stuffed with some admittedly impressive musical numbers. That’s it.

I agree. He’s a gay man who wants to play gay characters, characters who he will be able to understand and relate to a lot more and a lot better. In my experience, if certain actors can actually understand and relate to characters, they give a that much better performance.

As much as I really do enjoy the film and it’s writing, Meredith’s omission is glaring. Years before the film was even released, I read the book and read up on the story itself for myself and I was shocked that Meredith wasn’t included in the film. She was an important part.

That’s literally one of the only things I disliked about this movie. The whole film is about accepting people for who they are and then, the film contradicts itself in the end by having Ally Sheedy conform to the societal norm. Very odd choice indeed.

It had such an unafraid approach to tackling and exposing the horrors of the porn industry, and I appreciated the fuck out of that. But as the film went on, I felt that it lost it’s bite. It became a little too excessively dramatic and sort of killed the “rawness” of it.
