An excellent point. Both formal and informal care is highly reliant on cars to ferry the elderly and infirm to and from hospital appointments, from care homes to their families, as well as transport both paid and unpaid carers to those requiring care at home.
Claire Fox is right that we shouldn't need to justify our journeys to the state -- be that the London Mayor or whatever agency. But as she also points out, the extent of informal social care that is dependent on cars means that Khan's eco-posturing will hurt the poor most by far.

Midazolam was the end of the journey. The first stage was deliberate dehydration & starvation & withdrawal of life-saving medications. Once severely weakened & no longer able to fight, they were finished off with the cocktail. I got my mum home at the 11th hour. She survived.

That doesn't surprise me.The NHS was treating COVID as a terminal disease for those over 65, especially those with dementia.They tried three times with my mum, who had Alzheimer's. The last time, I had to fight in the Court of Protection to get her home before they killed her.

We know for a fact that the Liverpool Care Pathway was abolished in name only. The protocol continued under the radar for 6 years until 2020 when, under Matt Hancock's watch, it was used to fast-track thousands of the elderly and vulnerable to their graves.

There’s no excuse for the behaviour of the state in its handling of inhabitants of care homes. A promise of a ring of steel around care homes was a bare faced lie that ultimately resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands either through euthanasia, broken hearts or a virus 🤬🤬

This is an excellent summary of the devastating consequences of lockdown policies (most particularly visiting restrictions) on the elderly & vulnerable, & the precedents they set. Restrictive practices have become normalized, allowing providers to shut out families at whim.

My advocacy for my mother saved her from being euthanised in hospital,but the suffering & damage caused by isolation, dehydration & starvation during lockdown in her care home & 7 days on the 'pathway' before I got her out, was immense & irrevocable. It haunts me to this day.

Problem is Coronavirus Act. It gives hospitals carte blanche to decide visiting policy. PALS can't intervene. I fought to visit my mother in hospital & only got in when she'd deteriorated so much that she was in her 'last days". Got her discharged. 4 mths on she' s still with us.

Yes. It wasn't only COVID that spread like wildfire through care 🏠. With families locked out, corners were cut & neglect & abuse became endemic across the corporate care home sector, whose profits rocketed while our loved ones died of thirst & isolation.

I'll be contributing to this discussion in a personal capacity tonight. Please listen in. It's such an important issue. Family carers make huge sacrifices to plug the gaps in our broken care system, many having to give up work to do so. They should not be hounded in this way.

Scandalous dereliction of duty of care but not an isolated case. 1000s have died and are dying as a result of NHS neglect. Many starved, dehydrated & drugged to premature death as a result of end-of-life protocol abuses. 1000s now living diminished lives as a result of NHS harms.
