Tragic news. Maybe this will finally convince people that the virus doesn't only take the lives of the elderly and those with existing medical conditions but is a threat (albeit to a lesser degree) to us all.
I am delighted to announce that I have been selected as the Brexit Party's PPC for North-East Bedfordshire, formerly Alistair Burt's constituency.
Local constituents voted 53.4% for Leave, and I will not rest until their vote is respected and a clean-break Brexit is delivered.
I was there

All too true. Lost my home & livelihood & currently staying with a friend in Cambridgeshire, home to the well-heeled, sourdough kneeding set for whom Lockdown has changed little materially. They have absolutely no idea how devastating Lockdown has been for most of us.

I have been involved in anti-racist politics all my adult life but am finding this misrepresentation of Britishness deeply irritating. What's going on? Virtue signalling, uni-indoctrinated,twenty something creatives & marketeers running marketing campaigns.
Question: Why are black people (3% of the UK population) so heavily over-represented in TV dramas/adverts while South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans etc - 5% of the UK population) virtually absent. Does anyone know what is going on?

This is the reality. For vast swathes of the population, the digital world is inaccessible or extremely difficult to navigate. The imposition of a digital £ will push them further to the margins of society. Clearly, equality & inclusion policy doesn't extend to the elderly! 😡

I'd seek the advice of Italian, Greek, Spanish, and Portuguese citizens before going down that path... why do you think they're so keen to learn English? Answer: the Euro has decimated their economies and forced millions to emigrate, the UK being a top destination.
It's time for heads to roll in EVERY public service. From NHS to Social Services, CQC, DWP, Probate, HMRC, ALL are failing the public.They won't answer the phones, emails go unanswered for weeks, nobody with the knowledge to resolve a problem. Unacceptable
This is exactly why we must resist attempts to introduce medically assisted dying here. Sick & elderly patients are ALREADY deemed a burden by the NHS, a drain on resources. By ceding power to the State to end life, we lend further legitimacy to future NHS EoL protocol abuses.

At

This case has shocked & enraged us more than any other, so we've launched an appeal to raise funds for legal counsel & representation for the family. Please chip in.
An excellent point. Both formal and informal care is highly reliant on cars to ferry the elderly and infirm to and from hospital appointments, from care homes to their families, as well as transport both paid and unpaid carers to those requiring care at home.
Claire Fox is right that we shouldn't need to justify our journeys to the state -- be that the London Mayor or whatever agency. But as she also points out, the extent of informal social care that is dependent on cars means that Khan's eco-posturing will hurt the poor most by far.
@JacquiDeevoy1
You were lucky they didn't arrest you & shut you out for good, as they did with many who tried. Believe me, I'm not someone who takes no for an answer. I fought tooth & nail to get in. If there'd been more solidarity & public fight back, many patients lives would have been saved.
Why is the Guardian only now covering this story, when many of us shared our harrowing stories of revenge evictions during Lockdown and have continued to do so for months? Why does it require an official study for families to be believed?
@RightAngleUK
And we'll huff & we'll puff & we'll blow all those horrid places down with the sheer power of our collective tantrum, & if we still don't get our way, we'll stamp our feet, throw ourselves on the floor & kick and scream until the adults in the room cave in to our entitled demands
Exactly. We must unite in solidarity to ensure these barbaric & wholly unnecessary restrictions on our liberties and freedoms, including the freedom to see our loved ones when we so choose, are NEVER imposed again.

How much money have the over 65s spent on investing in the NHS? They paid their dues & merit the same access to medical care as everyone else. I know people well into their 90s who are still active & contributing to society. The elderly need & deserve treatment, not killing off.
@PaulEmbery
How much money are you willing to spend helping extremely old and infirm people cling to life? Why is that a better use of money than child benefit, or schools, or adult social care for those not on the cusp of death?
If the State wants families to take responsibility for caring for relatives in need, why is the DWP persecuting those who do? I'm still repaying a £1.2K debt due to a CA 'overpayment'. In 14 mths, as an unpaid carer, I saved the NHS £56,000 in care costs

1/2 Could you make it part of the plan to mandate face to face GP/NP visits in care homes and, moving forward, ensure every care home has one registered nurse on every shift. No more relying on untrained care staff to spot problems & triage appointments.

It's National Carers' Rights Day today, the day that unpaid carers are reminded of how flimsy, how tokenistic, those 'rights' are, how meaningless the 'help' they are apparently 'entitled' to (but can never access) & how utterly unsupported they really are.

Can the media PLEASE stop referring to patients as 'bed blockers'. The term is ugly, lazy, & discriminatory. It is not the fault of the elderly & frail who are languishing in hospital beds that there is a severe lack of social care capacity to enable safe discharge.
