16/20 Our Sixth Formers have proved to be invaluable in supporting reading, working on a 1:1 basis with students lower down in our schools. They have been trained in using reading protocols to support students and have boosted students' confidence.

10/20 All books are accompanied by a booklet containing a schedule, an overview of characters, context, themes and vocabulary. They are used in tutorial sessions to support understanding. This year, we are trialling 100% sheets to see what works best.

Year 12 Criminology students spent this afternoon with 2 lecturers from Arden University learning about reasons for unreported crime and consequences of not recording crimes. There was also discussion about validity and reliability of methods of collecting statistics about crime.

11/20 We use booklets in many subjects so our students read large quantities of text from the page rather than a screen. Adding line numbers has been great to support teachers/students when referring to specific parts of the text & to encourage tracking, skimming and scanning.

8/20 Reading is a top priority which means that throughout the year students have the opportunity to read a wide range of texts (fiction and non-fiction selected by curriculum areas) - approximately 30 books by the time they finish Year 10! They read twice a week in tutorial.
