My mom's cousin (married with kids) had a similar setup with her mother (widowed) who lived next-door: one huge backyard with no fence, with access to a river via the mother's property and a pool via the daughter's. Huuuuge extended family parties every year.

. Set in 2010's so not fantasy this time. Spotless acting (no naggy baby voice from female lead which I hate with a passion), a great story, wonderful chemistry between the actors, and my heart hurt until the end.
