I quit my dream job today.
After over a decade of building Dribbble and Creative Market, I’ve decided the time is right for me to close this epic chapter in my life and bring in a new leader.
While I believe I was the right CEO to grow Dribbble’s users from thousands to tens of
I just read an advance copy of my friend
@awilkinson
’s soon to be released book. And I was glued from the first chapter. I couldn’t put it down. It might be one of the best business books I’ve ever read.
I watched the evolution of Tiny over the past 8 years from my vantage
Just 6 months ago I had an investor from a top 10 firm scoff at the idea that Dribbble was 100% remote. Today, maybe not so crazy. Give it 2 years and startup office spaces will feel archaic.
Working remote is the way internet startups should have been doing it all along.
In the last 2 years at
@Dribbble
we've grown the team from 8 remote employees to 47. From this experiment I've seen career high product output, employee retention, job satisfaction and happiness. We have no commute, flexible work, and more time to spend with friends and family.
We are so incredibly lucky, proud, and ecstatic to announce that longtime Dribbbler, amazingly creative designer, and all around great guy,
@rogie
has joined Team Dribbble.
Here it is in his own words:
7) Our mission is to make designers successful. Our ambition is to help every designer in the world share their work to an audience of millions, find inspiration, refine their craft, and advance their career on Dribbble. ✌️🏀❤️
3) Tenured designers will still be able to reach the top of the homepage by posting great work, but we're also making room for younger designers who are new to Dribbble.
2) We're moving away from global leaderboards in favor of sophisticated algorithms that allow more of the Design community on Dribbble to get exposure for the great work they're doing.
Whoever writes the subject lines for

Some of their greatest hits...
"Icon almost taste it"
"Wake me up before you logo"
"Live long and product🖖"
"Hire hopes"

HOLY SHOT!
Designers –
@dribbble
has a new Shot upload flow and a redesigned Shot page that now supports high-resolution Shots. 🔥 🏀🔥
More big news coming from the Dribbble product team soon. Stay tuned.
That's "Bone". And the lettering is something called "Silian Rail".
It's very cool, Bateman... but that's nothing. Look at this. "Eggshell", with "Romalian" type. What do you think?
Are you a designer looking to one day become a successful Founder/ CEO? Then learn as much as you can about accounting, finance, and investing. It's not as hairy as it may seem once you get under the hood. Here's a great primer to get you started:
This is why we do what we do at
@dribbble
. We're so fortunate to be able to support the design community and help designers advance in their careers. It's such a rewarding feeling to get notes like this from designers. ❤️
I’m so excited... The woman who designed the Apple Macintosh logo (Susan Kare) and the woman who designed the Microsoft Windows logo (Paula Scher) are both speaking at
@Dribbble
Hang Time LA.
Pick up your tickets before this sells out & come see these legends tell their story.
The
#1
hardship we hear from freelancers is getting paid on time.
@Dribbble
we have a net 3-day payment policy for contractors so that they have that cash flow asap. All other services/businesses are paid on the standard net30 term.
4) Will we tell you how the algos work? No, sorry. This is something that we are keeping under our our hat to keep people from gaming the system for their advantages.
New release:
@Dribbble
integrations for your favorite design tools. Share your work without leaving your work.
More integrations with other apps coming soon!
We've made sharing your work on Dribbble even easier with a new suite of integrations with the world’s leading design tools including
@figmadesign
,
@AdobeXD
, and
@sketchapp
5) We're already penalizing the use of bot and follow rings with the goal of creating a level playing field for all designers, regardless of follower count.
Some people want to {insert distraction here}[sleep, gym, leisure time] more than they want to be successful.
When you really want to be successful you will know
According to a study by Stanford University, 94% of first impressions are design-related. Within 50 milliseconds, a poorly designed website can turn potential customers away before they even have a chance to explore your products or services.
Invest in high-quality designers!
Does your startup's website pass the first impression test?
In this episode of Design Review,
@zack415
, former CEO of Dribbble, joins YC's
@aaron_epstein
to review user-submitted websites in under 10 seconds and share their first impressions + advice.
As a result, we have less operating expenses, increasing our profit margins, and we have the closest/tightest team culture I've ever experienced in my 20 year career. I love my job! 🏀❤️
Update: We've removed the invite requirement on Dribbble.
Gone are the days of scouring the internet for someone to send you an invite. If you do great work, our team will simply let you in. 🤲🏀
We're psyched and honored to be included in

I hate running. But I ran my first 5k this morning (outside of the annual Turkey Trot, which is highly motivated by the promise of turkey and pie) in probably 5-10 years. I’m not winning any races with that time but I feel great!!
I DM'ed
@mds
a question about and he instantly spun up a video call to walk through it. That's some grade-A customer support right there. Thanks again, Matt!
6) Will I be able to figure out how it works? Trust us. You're not going to figure it out. We are constantly tweaking the algorithm with the goal of protecting the community and ensuring great work is being seen.
You know you’re doing something right when the MBA program that you dropped out of invites you in to talk to their students about business and entrepreneurship.
Thanks for having me (back),
@SFStateGradstdy
.
I rolled off the couch and ran another 5k today. I’m still a mix of running and walking, but it beats eating social media for breakfast. Feeling good.

What a meeting! Our team pooled together their

I'm super excited to announce
@Dribbble

for the killer page design!
Early bird tickets are on sale now for New York!
We found that some Chinese
@Dribbble
users are already using a Chinese character name for Dribbble, namely 追波 (reads as “Zhui Bo”. This seems to be a phonetic translation of the English name Dribbble. Its direct meaning could be translated as “chasing waves”
My dad died in 2011. His spirit (memory) still guides me in my dreams where he’s still alive and well, and is often my advisor, as he was when he was here in the flesh; chalked full of wisdom and sonetimes embarrassing quips and stories in company where I wish he wouldn’t share.
I’m thrilled to share the news of our new Pro Business tier, custom-made for freelancers and design agencies with a focus on helping them find work on Dribbble. This is new first of many big things to come in the new year to help designers become more successful. Stay tuned. 🏀🙌

I’ve been playing with a lot of .ai workflow tools recently and have come to the conclusion that…
1) Most are pretty terrible products out of the box or don’t work as advertised without a lot of setup, customization, and hacking (steep learning curve = wasted time).
2) A lot

Ok, is my new favorite AI note-taking tool. No creepy Zoom or Meet plugin. It runs in the background and listens to calls. I take chicken scratch notes so that I can pay attention to the person in the meeting. At the end, the app takes my crappy notes and
I strongly disagree with Zuck's policy to cut the salaries of employees who leave the Bay Area to work remotely. Here's a quick look into how Dribbble has designed equitable remote pay bands.
