On the pain… on a scale of 1 to fuck me it hurts, there are moments you just want the world to swallow you up but then there’s codeine. I’ve fractured bones and been operated on without anaesthetic - this pain is a whole new level, so solidarity with all monkeypox sufferers. 5/8

Some of you may know the monkeypox guidelines about isolation; I need to wait until all the lesions are healed, roughly 3 weeks. I was also asked to not have bareback sex for a further 8 weeks, as they’re not certain whether the virus is still transmitted through semen. 7/8

At the same time, I managed to get a monkeypox vaccination appointment for the following Monday.
Following my vaccination, I had a fever. I attributed this to the fact that, as a child, I did not respond well to the live smallpox vaccine. I had bad fevers then too! 2/8

I’m absolutely not out of the woods with treatment. We’re waiting to see how I respond to more antibiotics and there are other pain management options (read hospitalisation) I’m hoping to avoid. 6/8

Other than the pain in the ass, I have small pox marks all over my body. Not like the ones you see when you google and something, thankfully, most would not notice, so I’m isolating at home and social distancing from Chris, who has been vaccinated. 4/8

After the fever broke, I noticed roughly 6 spots around my butt (this number since doubled). After 3 nights of little to no sleep, I took myself to Dean Street and they confirmed my suspicions. I had monkeypox. They sent me home with co-codamol, lidocaine for pain management. 3/8
