The Erikson Audacity is a condition that afflicts most if not all Malazan readers. Symptoms include feeling pity for characters you hate, sudden bouts of unconditional love for characters you’ve barely met, and an irresistible urge to swear “Hood’s balls!” at any given moment.

I just finished chapter 13 and I’m a sobbing mess. These books are not made for romance but in a world so dark and brutal, when Erikson decides to sprinkle it in, damn does it hits hard. The LAYERS that this pairing peels away is nothing short of literary artistry.

Done! Deadhouse Landing has become one of my favorite Malazan books. ICE is doing some brilliant character work here and I’m awed that he can make me believe that the people he’s writing eventually become the characters I know from the main series.

I’ve made it to chapter 5. When I say I’m hanging on by a ✨thread✨ I mean that Akka and Esmi are the thread and if anything happens to that thread I’ll be on a downward spiral to a full emotional meltdown.
