What is a “ridiculously high IDC” rate? It costs **way** more money to build, equip, maintain and upgrade a research building in Los Angeles than it does in Omaha, and I would guess most likely than in Houston.
Which part do you disagree with 😎 Ridiculously high IDCs (i.e. 70-90%) prevent necessary collaboration between researchers from various institutions as well.. particularly via certain other federal funding mechanism we are both aware off. at some point this IDC disparity needs to be addressed.

My point was that this is NOT the time to pipe up and say, Well, you know, most institutions’ IDC is inflated. These buildings are full of complex systems that need to be maintained. None of my federal grants ever paid a penny of that out of direct costs. Do not obey in advance!
@Kaochar2 @wehodarwinian Do you in FACT know that BCMs IDCs are inflated? If yes, could you break down these numbers so we can discuss where the waste occurs? Because I frankly have no clue about my institutions budget to make a fact-based comment.
