The biggest mistake I see people make about friendships is that they will just happen. That’s like saying health will just happen. The more you dial up your intentionality as a friend, the more you will dial up the quality of every other part of your life.

Still my all-time favorite scene from any sci-fi movie. The drama, soundtrack, dialog, human + machine, all of it. One of my most treasured moments of 2025 was watching this with @neiltyson and staying up until 1am chatting with him about the science behind Interstellar. In Antarctica no less, which was surreal with the frozen planet scenes…

Most people spend less time with their friends then they want because they are locked into a spontaneous vibes only mode. We learn that in school, but every passing year post-school we lose friends and have less meaningful friends. These two things are deeply related!

This week mine is about 2.4h spent with friends per day More than the average at age 18 This is result of actively avoiding this fate when getting older by: - moving to the same beach town with my internet friends - organizing weekly coworking day Next plan is: - organizing more weekly activities like SNES game nights, gym together (difficult with personal trainer though), etc I was against structured organizing but weekly things with structure do make people show up

To paraphrase a famous quote: the cost of anything is the amount of time lag to a text reply… Sometimes I have friends or family who complain I don’t answer my phone or reply fast enough. But then I ask them how many times they didn’t feel I was 100% present when we spent time together. The time we give others is precious, but time without attention is not meaningful. And yes, that means you will miss out on other things. We can’t have valuable things for free!

I think culture needs to normalize around the idea of slow texting: If I haven’t replied to you, it means I haven’t looked at my phone. And if I’m not looking at my phone, I’m in my good place. to expect instant responses from others is to hope for them to not be fully absorbed in their own present. could any hope be less loving? what if we saw all our slow text convos as a win and stopped taking it so damn personally?

People forget what Uber was like when Dara took over, massive growth but also careening from one disaster to another. Master class in leadership 👏

Never bet against @dkhos. Btw - the @BillAckman news dropped while Dara, Diller & I on stage together in Miami. At 33 M rides a day $UBER clearly the market leader - plus Dara understands the risks of robotaxi. One of greatest financial turn arounds in biz history. 🚀

@I_Am_GKennedy @alyssakrejmas Blame Google - after you sync your gcal it used to just send a clear message but now it gets hidden if a new person and requires clicking a safety message. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that they released their own calendly-like functionality shortly after 🙄

Mercury just launched automatic receipt matching. IRS requires businesses to collect receipts for very transaction >$75. This feature makes it easy: * forward receipts to our email * bulk upload them via web or mobile We will auto match to relevant transactions.

@I_Am_GKennedy @alyssakrejmas Funny I don’t have this response at all - but I tend to ask if they want to find a slot that works best in my calendly or suggest a time. Also alot of the time they have a calendly acct too, so they can downselect dates faster. This is way too hidden in the UI though…

“The best people don’t just say yes to everything. They help you connect the dots rather than erase them” Love the way that Greg says this. Ive been wrong about what would get big or where things would go, why be negative when you could see the what if?

There's nothing worse than having bitter people shut down your startup ideas. Great ideas are fragile at first, and they need people who can see possibilities, not just problems. The best people don’t just say yes to everything. They help you connect the dots rather than erase them I see it happen all the time. Founder shares an early idea, and immediately someone starts listing all the reasons it won't work. Not because they've tried and failed, but because they've never tried at all. These people aren't protecting you from failure - they're protecting themselves from watching you succeed. Find the friends who light up at your crazy ideas, who add "what if we also..." instead of "but what about..." Good things happen.

@bryan_johnson It’s more than just pmf2.5 and we can do better than HEPA, check out the work Sissi & team are doing at Metalmark:

We need to talk about smoke. Especially in California where wildfire season is now year round. Wildfire smoke is 10 times more toxic than other air pollutants. It can carry neurotoxins, increases the risks of cardiopulmonary issues, cancer, dementia, mental illnesses, and more. Being indoors or even hundreds miles away does not protect us. HEPA is the current gold standard of filters, but doesn't protect us adequately against this and many other things in the air. So what to do? When I first came across Sissi Liu and Metalmark just before Covid, it was already clear we were going to need the breakthrough they made. Their mission is to give new superpowers to old HVAC systems to keep us more healthy - and more cost effectively. Do you work in a highrise, school or other building that has HVAC systems? Protect your health and introduce the building manager to Metalmark:

This is def true… with @sevennsocial we’ve been skating to where the puck will be vs where it is today. And we’ve seeing some pretty magical things line up 👀 Two things: 1) deep multi-lingual ability - our system can resolve requests in other languages even when the data entities are only in English 2) semantic resolving - previous versions would think the Whitney in a Whitney Musuem was a person, now it doesn’t. Also maps sports team names to the sport and larger concepts of playing or watching a sport.

Overheard from a YC founder: "Whenever a new frontier model comes out, a subset of the batch's products just start working and they takeoff. Many of us are keeping burn rate low, kind of just waiting" Hoping that o3-mini unlocked the takeoff moment for some startups last week!
