robert downey junior is getting paid 80M for dr doom; the ~ price of 2.5 seasons of gravity falls (paying for the entire crew including overseas animation-hand drawn animation).
studios think we're asking too much 💰 and we should stick to rig animation to save 💰💰💰
Personal taste obviously but even the examples people post of the best rigged animation still don't look that great to me, or would look better hand-drawn. Or have so much redrawing that they are basically hand-drawn with auto in-betweens.
