Just hit 10m in revenue (1.8 mil profit) since we launched 8 years ago. 4m of the revenue came in the last 12 months. I remember thinking if I could make 2k/month in profit I'd be content. Sticking with boring businesses can lead to great outcomes. Keep going!

We have lost over 10k to customers having us clean then contacting their credit card provider to get a refund. Pretty crazy system where we can't do anything. Has anyone figured out how to win chargebacks in the local service space? I feel like a startup should take this on

June Update: $402k revenue, $110k profit. Great month, best ever profit and profit margin. Things are trending upwards, some of the new locations are contributing to profit now. Attempting to launch 10 new locations by December, we'll see if things fall apart as we ramp up growth

January update for our cleaning biz: $294k revenue, 21k profit. Looks bad at first glance but it's a good January, which is the slowest month of the year for us. 70% more profit than last January so things are going in the right direction.

If anyone is thinking of starting a business, go for it. Don't over analyse, don't wait until you've got everything figured out, don't think of all the things that can go wrong. Just copy a basic business and try to get your first dollar in 6-8 weeks. Momentum is powerful.

I've only visited 1 of the 9 cities in the US that we operate in. Running stuff remotely is totally doable and really enjoyable. I get to live wherever I want (currently London, UK). You could probably run almost any business remotely, if you're happy to give up a little margin

A Holding Company is a business that owns other operating companies. Many people know the most famous HoldCo -- Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway. But there are actually 4 types of holding companies. And they're each useful in different situations.

Not to hate on anyone, I say this to help: if you want to do a startup, it's a no brainer to start with an "easy" biz like eCommerce or local service. Choosing a Saas, marketplace or world changing start-up for your first biz is playing life on extreme difficulty mode

I tried to give up 3 months in. I had seen others shoot to success in the same industry which didn't happen for us. Thankful for my co-founder who talked me around. I'd potentially still be working a 9-5 if he hadn't (nothing wrong with that, just really not a good fit for me)

Our gross profit per customer is ~250. Our net profit per customer is ~120. How much should we be willing to pay for a customer? Intuitively it seems like it should be somewhere in the middle right? Seeing as not all operating costs are fixed. Am I wrong?
