@dan_abramov Carol Dwek's book Mindset is about exactly this. It changed me on a foundational level and it changed my parenting style. For example, I praise my daughter's hard work much more often than I praise any natural ability she might have.

@ShaneAParrish Only if your boss has an ego that requires them to appear superior or competent at all times. If that idea makes its way down to middle management then there is something wrong several levels up.

@aarondfrancis @mateusjatenee 100% this. You can't upgrade squat until you have basic tests passing in a staging environment. Focus on the crucial features at first, not code coverage. After that you can start reorg of files, upgrade php, namespacing, blade templates, etc.

@Tinkerwellapp @marcelpociot small feature request. connection manager still feels a bit off. it's not clear if you are editing a current connection, how to save a new one, etc. I think a simple +/- buttons would help tremendously in that area. love this thing!

@DailyLaravel Careful here. Depending on how the table is set up and if there are a ton of records this query can be incredibly slow. Ran into this recently. In those cases I created a random int between 1 and highest id. Check if exists. Loop again if not.

@DThompsonDev can do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. As you pick your primary parts (board, case, CPU) it will eliminate parts in your search that are incompatible with your current build. They also have other people's builds with parts and pics.

@sjwhitmore Retaining context for long form conversations is tricky. I suspect #3 is where the magic happens. Annotating past dialog with discovered facts to enrich AI's understanding of past statements in an ongoing dialog is brilliant. Great job!

One of the most essential skills as a programmer in a fast moving business is not "I memorized all features of X language / framework" rather "I found existing code that is similar to what I need to do. So I repurposed it, tested, and learned something new."

@kelseyhightower YES 1000%. Too many devs are obsessed with mastering 100% of the syntax or memorizing algorithms of their preferred language. Not enough have the quick "figure it out" roll up your sleeves mindset for actual problems that come up. That's what actually gains ground.

@forrestbrazeal I wrote custom programs in TI-Basic (for TI Calculators) for physics class in HS that would let you cheat on upcoming tests. Word got out so I charged $20 per transfer. Funny part is that the act of writing the program meant that I didn't really need to cheat when it came time.
