I’m not the first person to point this out I’m guessing but here you go anyway…
The literal meaning of ‘armistice’ is ceasefire you fucking flag shagging idiots.
Everyone has ‘a band’. They are mine. 🧵
I ran an infamous Primal Scream fan site 1999-2003. Ended up following them round the UK, gegging on guest lists, etc. Martin Duffy was always around, always had time to talk to me, always remembered me - ‘oh, it’s you again!’
This article by Eve de Haan hit me like a tonne of bricks today. For a lot of reasons, and one incident in particular at Anfield. I’ve never quite had the words for it, until now.
I don’t have anywhere else to put this, so… 🧵
It wasn’t though. I kept going back, and will keep going back. We have fought so hard to get here, and reading this broke my heart again - enough to make my Twitter public just to say it.
Stop viewing us as secondary in 'the male space'. Football is for all of us.
Yes, I did have to tell someone off yesterday for homophobic chanting in the Kop. His excuse? Them chanting about Hillsborough. Nonsense.
It’s not over, fight the good fight. Be better. Call it out.

I’ve been thinking about what Louie wrote, fucking bravely I might add, a lot. I’m honestly appalled. Gillespie’s ‘soul brother’ on the fucking dole? ‘Tough love’ for addiction? From a band who wore excess very plainly on their sleeves for decades, the cruelty is laughable.
These are unforgivable things though. Boils down to your bank account vs your mate’s, a mate who’s contributed hugely to your success. Whatever their addiction, whatever their troubles, it’s not ‘tough love’ to rob them of a share of what they deserve.

I think I told him to fuck off, but I don’t remember. Thankfully I grabbed a steward whilst my ‘friend’ argued with his mates about it. I was shuffled out, offered immediate support and kindness from the stewards - and I am so grateful for that level of care.
2 years on, I am so lucky to know so many women who regularly go. On their own, with their mates, it doesn’t matter. We feel safe there. But be aware that it doesn’t take much to break that sense of safety and community, and it could have been a sledgehammer break for me.
Duffy’s contribution to Primal Scream cannot and should not be underplayed. He was the soul of that band, and a fucking virtuoso. His playing would make a grown man cry, and trust me - I’ve seen plenty of them.

Due to Gillespie’s decades of political posturing, I had falsely presumed the band operated in some kind of socialist utopia. My fault, it's what I’ve suspected for years. Seeing Throb become ostracised for his addiction, then the way they treated Denise a couple of years later.
At the time of Duffy’s tragic death, I thought how horrible it must have been for them, having lost Throb, Weatherall, and Denise too... but ‘oh, weird they’re still up for playing these gigs’. The Screamadelica cash cow must continue, I guess with some 'session player'?!
I’m not about to burn my fucking records, or get my Screamadelica tattoo covered up. Yeah, you can tell me they were cunts all along, tell me how shit their music was, etc. They were important to me, I can't change that.
As Reds, we have a moral superiority complex. I’m proud of who we are and the positive changes we’ve made, but because you - and I’m talking to you - aren’t, it doesn’t mean someone else ISN’T a sexist prick.
I’ve been going the match on my own since 2022, after over a decade sat with my ex.
Anfield is my home; the concrete, the bricks, the stairs, the plastic seats, the songs, the flags, the people. It is a commune with strangers that feels unfamiliar in modern life.
Being a woman has barely factored into being ‘into football’ for me, thankfully, and maybe because I’ve spent my life enjoying stereotypically ‘male pursuits’ - often at gigs where I was one of the only women in the room. I never, ever, felt at risk at Anfield.
Coming the match tomorrow?

will be back, from 6pm. Bottom of Anny Road / under Rushy’s mural.
Because we should have room in our heads for more than football. Up the Reds.
We played Brighton on 1 October 2022. I was in the Lower Kenny, surrounded by men, women, families. Firmino scored and I felt two hands grab my arse in ‘celebration’. I looked back and my shout was met with a shrug and a drunken smile. His mate sheepishly said sorry.
Duffy remembered me. I swear to fucking god. Probably about 15 years since I’d been that twat at the after party. He was drunk (as was I) but I got an ‘ah fuck, it’s you!’, they signed my record and I skipped off into the night.
Apart from Arsenal (stay classy lads), every single away team I’ve encountered at Anfield has sung Hillsborough songs, and it’s got worse since we’ve been more successful.
It’s not banter. It could have been you. Could have been any of us. Other clubs need to own this shit.
Liverpool statement denouncing “vile chants relating to football stadium tragedies” by City fans at Anfield, and “graffiti of a similar nature.”
Hard to express how disgusting and disappointing this is all is. Find your humanity and stop it.
The rest of the game is a bit of a blur. I couldn’t concentrate. I felt my sinuses pulsing with anger. After the final whistle, I made the slow journey out onto the concourse, and I must have given him daggers because my ‘friend’ from row 13 immediately started mouthing off...

Oh yeah, *maybe* I'm interested... been coming for over a decade, building up my 13+ credits in desperate times, spending hundreds of pounds a season, taking half days off work to sit in a queue, dodge site crashes and then chase my 'guaranteed' seat around a stadium map.
Here’s my letter to Jürgen.
I wrote the text back in January, and will add to the thread if anyone is interested and doesn’t want to decipher my scrabbly handwriting.
My train was obviously cancelled into Manchester today so on a different route, right past Old Trafford… I flipped the bird out of the window like a petulant child. Top Red.
Well, I have a migraine but managed to shout ‘SHUT UP YOU SCUMBAGS!’ at some United fans poverty chanting outside Lime St. Hope you’re proud of me Twitter.

We keep going, keep putting pressure on, keep showing solidarity 🍉
This is incredible news. Thank you to everyone who signed our petition, stood with us outside Anfield, or even gave us a 'nice one!' or a thumbs up on the walk to the ground.
Pressure works, keep it up Reds.
AXA forced to divest from ALL Israeli banks and Elbit Systems
After ongoing pressure from campaigners around the world the French multinational insurer AXA has been forced to sell its investments in all major Israeli banks and Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer
Last time I ‘saw them’ was at the launch of the Memphis Sessions back in 2018. I haven’t seen them live since the first Screamadelica anniversary gigs (I'm crying on the dvd). Can’t say I’ve enjoyed anything they’ve released since 2002, but the Memphis Sessions felt important.

I’m going to Dublin with my girls to be there. To be part of it if we get through, absolutely no possibility of us getting tickets, and that’s fine with us.
Why should I be treated like some kind of criminal, as if it’s my fault they CHOSE the venue and city and aren’t prepared?

Aw John, Eurovision always makes me think of my dad too. He got into it because he was obsessed with Terry Wogan and so it just became a family tradition. He would have loved to see it in Liverpool too.
@spiritofshankly
spoke to an old fella on the way out of Anfield tonight. He’s been coming from Wigan for 50 years. Couldn’t get in the ground because there was no signal, said around 300 people all had the same issue, no help. He gave up and went the Sandon.
Just reminded of the time I joked to a guy I was seeing last year that I’d get him a Szobo shirt for some kinky cosplay. He took it badly and didn’t speak to me for 3 days. The sheer power of Daddy Dom.
This is a Manchester United squad that has been expensively assembled, but it lacks coherence and whoever is appointed will have to face that first of all – and that means sales as well as signings. But the biggest problem is Ronaldo.

I feel so extraordinarily lucky to call this city mine now. And to have the privilege of meeting you all, and living the game in the way I always should have done.
Yes I’m emotional and avoiding the FA cup.
Happy 13+ members registration day to all who celebrate.
Queued for 30 minutes, got through, clicked 'register' on the first game and am now back in the queue. Nice these things have got worse eh.

I still don’t understand who is buying random 90s reissues on heavyweight vinyl for £20+ a pop, pushing back new releases because the factories can’t cope. Who are you, and why are you buying ‘A Maximum High’ by Shed Seven?
It would be really great if we could stop using terms like 'lads' or 'fellas' when describing who buys or wants access to tickets.
C'mon Phil, it's 2024.
