i worry about my chances in academia because I think I'm not really more intelligent than average, just more passionate, and that doesn't really get you anywhere.
In the same way that confidence can be mistaken for intelligence, I suspect that passion can be, too

If more women understood that nerdy men flirt by offering minutely fine-tuned criticisms of their ideas, or that "mansplaining" is often intended to be a benevolently heroic act, it would solve a lot of problems.
