I’m not wearing a poppy this year because the Royal British Legion’s ‘Head of Diversity and Inclusion’ earns roughly £65,000 a year while many ex-servicemen struggle for support. I’ll still honour and remember the brave souls who served and sacrificed for our freedom.

I once knew someone who was hired full time, to "cut costs" at a small company. He realised, basically day one, that the biggest expense they didn't need was him. He told them instead to order less stationary etc every month. They raised his salary and he stayed for years.

Rape gang victims have to pay thousands for a transcript of their own trial. As do all victims of the most serious crimes in Britain. Before Christmas, @crush_crime looked into paying for crown court transcripts and publishing them. We couldn't - it's a criminal offence. 🧵👇

A reminder that it's a CRIMINAL OFFENCE in Mauritius for Chagossian people to claim Chagos isn't a Mauritian territory. Mauritius applies this rule GLOBALLY. It applies to Chaggosians and their speech in Britain. Why is the British government giving the islands to this.
New: The UK will tell Mauritius it's open to front-loading payments as part of a sweetened Chagos deal in talks this month. No more money will be offered but the UK could pay the 1st tranche upfront or condense the annual payments so more is paid earlier

No one would design a system like this. Career criminals are FIVE TIMES more likely to avoid prison than in 2007. We need longer sentences for career criminals. No excuses, government must act.
Campaigner Dr Lawrence Newport believes repeat offenders should be locked up for longer. He believes there 'hasn't been a joined up approach' when it comes to longer sentences for people who reoffend.

So it's now confirmed: 3 victims, one is an 11 year old girl. Her crime was running past an American Bully. For that, she was mauled. Two men jumped in to save her, so the dog then turned on them. This is not normal. End this madness. Ban the American Bully.

A measure just like the one WITHIN OUR LFG Bill has been announced by government. This was a measure that was considered "too radical" just two weeks ago. If we push, we can get government to move further and faster. The time for delay is over. Britain must build again.

How is this remotely acceptable?. Sentence of 6 years(. ?), out in 2.5(?!). Given a deportation order, no action in almost a decade. These people systematically raped children. It was covered up, took years of work to bring them to justice and. this is what happened?.
The Rochdale grooming gang ringleader, (50 men who sexually abused or raped 74 underage girls) still hasn’t been deported 9 years after receiving his deportation order. Qari Abdul Rauf was released in 2014, just 2.5 years into a 6 year sentence. He still lives near his victims

Theft is legal in Britain - and the results are exactly what you'd expect. Huge networks of organised crime, where career criminals with hundreds of offences operate in the open. We don't have to accept this. It is a solvable problem - gov must choose to jail career criminals.
First time as a Londoner of 6 years being robbed. This seems like the new normal - several friends have had phones stolen in central London in last month. Clearly organised activity - phone couldn't be tracked on find my device even on the same evening.

What is so infuriating about this post is that it is exactly the attitude of the lobby we had to work so hard to defeat. "No action" = "smart move". Rather than looking at the data, it's just much easier to nod and agree "well, it's very complex if you think about it. ".
I’m very glad that the government is going to solve the problem of dangerous dogs by banning them with a new law. History suggests this should be an easy fix.

This story is absurd. Man steals, threatens staff with a hammer, attacks police, attacks a receptionist. 14 previous convictions, 25 offences. Judge decides, because guidelines don't allow(!) a long sentence and he's now "cooperating", he shouldn't go to prison. No jail time
@pursuitofprog Greggs staff lock themselves inside shop as thug pulls hammer on them. (+ assaulting police, unprovoked attack on a receptionist). 14 previous conviction for 25 offences. No time inside. Absurd .

I am repeatedly asked "How will we pay for extra court rooms, judges and lawyers to clear the rape backlog? You need to be realistic". Apparently though, our government can quickly find BILLIONS to *give away* territory to a nation that criminalises the speech of Chaggosians.
NEW: UK govt has offered to frontload a tranche of payments to Mauritius in a bid to finalise Chagos islands deal, acc to people familiar with talks. Proposal is seen as compromise between Mauritians' demand for more cash, and UK refusal to increase overall cost of 99-year lease.

This can easily be changed. Amazingly easily. The government can add a new breed to the banned list immediately. No law needs to pass, just a signature from SoS for @DefraGovUK. Or, government guidance can just be updated to make clear that the Bully is a Pitbull type. Banned.

Waiting two years for a rape trial has become the norm. 73,000 cases are stuck in a backlog. 10,000 are sexual offences. But our courts won't open. Up to a third of our courts are simply shut on any given working day. Government must act: open the courts and end the backlog.

@sarahedougherty @NW_Horadam What do you think of my arguments to the contrary? We know that breeds have traits. Sighthounds to hunt small game, pointers to point, bloodhounds to track - why should we be surprised that fighting breeds have a tendency towards violence?.

For 14 years, the Tories let Nimbys and zealots clog up our legal system and stop the government building the infrastructure Britain needs. I won't stand for it. As part of our Plan for Change, we're taking on the blockers to get Britain building again.

So what's stopping them?. There is a HUGE lobby, led by the @RSPCA_official, which advocates against ANY BANS. Worse than just stopping a ban on the Bully, they advocate for a removal of all breed bans. Meaning a return of the Pitbull and the bred-for-slave-hunting Brasileiro.

The injustice here is palpable. Transcriptions can be automated! It shouldn't cost thousands of pounds for victims to read their own trial!. Audio recordings of all crown court trials already exist, they should be made free to access and redacted as necessary.

Niall McNamee was scrolling through his phone on the Ldn Underground when a thief on the platform snatched it from his hand just as the doors closed. Two days later the 30-yr-old discovered his bank accounts had been drained by about £21,000 - including a £7,000 loan.

Shoplifting is up in 97% of constituencies. Some have almost doubled in a year. Reality is worse as most go unreported. There's been a complete collapse in the ability/availability of police to catch or stop this. In many cases shoplifting has become essentially legal.
CRIME BREAKDOWN #8: Shoplifting. The big one. There is a reason we held off on dropping this. 97% of constituencies in the UK have seen increases in shoplifting since 2022. And not small increases. Absolutely massive ones. Check it out for yourself:

It isn't a *new law". For an account supposedly run by a barrister I'd expect more insight than this. I've made clear how it'd work, why we should think it's effective, and why it's needed. This is just nonsense and bad faith argumentation.

This response from police is incredibly depressing. "Do you want us to actually investigate or do you just want a crime reference number?". "If you do want more, it's a lot of work for you and us and probably not worth it anyway". Has anyone else received something like this?.
On 18th December I had a new phone I'd had for 2 weeks stolen from my table in a pub in London. The staff said the thief came in regularly & was part of a ring. I reported the crime & received this 👇 template response - & another response intended for another similar victim.🧵

@AntoniStojak If that were true why don't we see many attacks by greyhounds? Greyhounds are horrifically mistreated and never socialided when young etc and you don't see attacks on people. You do see attacks on small animals (squirrels, rabbits, even small dogs) - like they were bred to do.
