Jumping directly into the technical papers is usually a very steep learning curve.
Distributed Systems for Fun and Profit is a much more manageable learning curve for a beginner.

Siri has had the functionality to perform AI agent actions on a vast number of iOS applications for many years now.

Ammon Bartram (YC S15) advocates the importance of standardisation of the interview, but a question being an even playing ground for all candidates is unrealistic.
That’s why it’s more so just a test of whether or not someone does their homework.

Papers like Spanner, build on fundamentals advances made by Leslie Lamport in the 90s such as Lamport Clocks. These papers assume prior familiarity with these concepts.
Being able to reason about the motivations from fundamentals requires an understanding of these concepts.

This experience is residual capability that can be leveraged to serve AI at scale.

Designing Data-Intensive Applications builds on knowledge from industry accrued building applications for scale (2005 - ).
Distributed Systems for Fun and Profit teaches fundamentals from the 90s, when the lessons from the former did not exist yet.
Former is not a prerequisite.
