@tfadell I trust the data. Apple runs an Apache Cassandra cluster ~10x the size of Netflix's (. Apple is spending $4.75B on H100 accelerators = ~100K H100s at retail (FB bought 150K in 2023). Just shut a $10B project with 1000s of employees moved to Gen AI.

@pitdesi They seem to be very useful as hackathon prizes when the startup founders who originally bought them are looking to discard them.

@chiefaioffice @coatuemgmt However, that is just the equipment. It needs to ultimately drive revenue from the end user. No point of building railroads when nobody is putting regular trains on them. Whether it is a bubble, only time will tell….

@cto_junior Jumping directly into the technical papers is usually a very steep learning curve. Distributed Systems for Fun and Profit is a much more manageable learning curve for a beginner. - someone who jumped directly into the technical papers and felt the pain.

@deedydas Agreed. There is a dissonance between the skills required to succeed in industry and the skills required to independently generate value. I didn’t matter to companies while I persistently kept trying to polish my technical acumen, until I had a Tesla internship on my resume.

Mark Zuckerberg on how AI will disrupt industries and how Meta is reimagining its business in the age of AI, while speaking with @adityaag and @rsanghvi at @southpkcommons:. "You can point to almost any product experience out there and I think that'll change"

@rizzy_sol @enlightenedcoop The S&P 500 (the often considered most baseline equity investment) overlaid over the value of Chanel bags. Up ~578% in the same period. Thank god the economy does not grow nearly as slowly as Chanel bag appreciation.

@KrishivThakuria As the CEO, you would be hedging your employees’ rewards on a significant amount of your performance. However, if you as the CEO are hedging your own vest on your company’s performance, Elon Musk has done that at Tesla in 2018.

@mezmax Steve Jobs only became "Steve Jobs" after he shipped the Macintosh. Is this not an overestimate for someone who has taken a year and a half and still not shipped the equivalent of a bluetooth microphone.

Every company building AI agents has the LLM part figured, but almost none have the 'Perform Actions' part figured. Siri has had the functionality to perform AI agent actions on a vast number of iOS applications for many years now. Apple's LLM ReaLM will change this. #WWDC2024.
Apple has devolved into a late stage holding company. That Siri has no LLM while they are doing this scale of buyback is a complete lack of ambition and no understanding of what is about to happen to them.

@AbhayVenkatesh1 However, to address your main point, the phenomenon of more individuals becoming "newly minted \"AI founders\"" than seasoned operators can be attributed to be a downstream effect of the excess availability of early stage capital. Becoming a founder right now is more lucrative.

@enlightenedcoop The reality is there haven't been statistically significantly enough female heads of state to make this conclusion. I do believe there is a much higher bar for female leaders since there are so few elected. However, for every Margaret Thatcher, there is also a Liz Truss.

@esthercrawford I worked at the university Mediterranean place where drunk college kids showed up at 2AM (every university has one). The first night after I got back at 4AM, my roommate poked me while I was asleep the next morning to see if I was still alive. Grateful for what it taught me.

@emendationem @cto_junior Papers like Spanner, build on fundamentals advances made by Leslie Lamport in the 90s such as Lamport Clocks. These papers assume prior familiarity with these concepts. Being able to reason about the motivations from fundamentals requires an understanding of these concepts.

@deedydas Disagree. Ammon Bartram (YC S15) advocates the importance of standardisation of the interview, but a question being an even playing ground for all candidates is unrealistic. That’s why it’s more so just a test of whether or not someone does their homework.

@chiefaioffice If they're so "innovative" with their technology, why not also be "innovative" with their brand name. Come up with a different name that doesn't cost 1+ employee. Ultimately nobody buys your product because you have a great name, but rather because you have a great product.

@playermahesh @tfadell Tony Fadell said “Apple has ZERO data center capabilities”. They’ve built and maintained large scale hardware infrastructure in the past to successfully serve software at scale with high uptime. This experience is residual capability that can be leveraged to serve AI at scale.
