Anime set in the modern day is the place where slang should be used in a localization.
Anywhere else it’s weird, but Nagatoro is like 16, she’d have TikTok and shit.
@Comrade_Waluigi
Oh that sucks. Since it was a subtle difference, but really helped make them seem like two distinct personalities Bruce used.
But it wasn’t as drastic as say 60’s cartoon Spider-Man going from utter dweeb to dude who drinks raw testosterone supplements.
One other thing I would do if I was president of Bandai Namco would be to commission a “Super Jump Wars” game.
A game featuring Shonen Jump characters in the style of Super Robot Wars. I’m honestly surprised that’s never been attempted before.
I need Type Moon fans to step into my shoes as a fan of Super Robot Wars OG because imagine loving a series that not only isn’t that financially successful, but also has almost no American fanbase to talk to, and hasn’t had a new entry in nearly 10 years.
@prototypell
They note this in the manga, but I really think it’s just a case of something like Barnyard where Otis has udders for jokes.
Still it makes the right people mad so I’m for it.
@greffoir204
He never had a problem with Arabs being portrayed as villains, just so long as they weren’t stereotypes.
Transformers kind of failed on that. Was also vegan, and negotiated for Shaggy to be vegetarian in the 90’s and 2000’s.
@MConcreteHater
No I genuinely don’t think he’s a predator. He’s a porn obsessed grifter who shouldn’t be even acknowledged, but I don’t think he’s a predator.
He could be, I could definitely be wrong.
@NerdAthleticz
@SuperMarioOOC85
No, they’re just not using the kanji for “男の子” which refers to a young boy.
Now otoko no ko (男の娘) is a bit different, but none of Vivian’s dialogue implies they just like putting on women’s clothing or anything like that, it’s a bit of a stronger feeling.
@PleoTCA
@Sprocketguys
Yeah but it’s weird that people go so far rather than just saying “yeah I think they’re kind of annoying”
It’s like people just can’t dislike a person, it has to be because they have some moral failing.

@Aeyga_X
@Smolassus
Apparently Aaron McGruder wanted to be really candid about the use of the word so this is just sticking to his original vision.
Still kind of strange it got dubbed though. It’s such an intrinsically American show.
There’s a real big resurgence in puritanical behavior and it’s just strange since the people espousing it are often seemingly progressive on other issues. They just hate sex
Proshippers know theyre vile, groveling scum of the earth, so they douse their glorifications of abuse and fetishes in pretty artstyles to hide the rotten core that is their abandoned soul, their rotten mind- they feign innocence and they use cuteness to further their foulness.
@tarantunya
I’m more on the side of proship. Y’know, just don’t hurt a living thing and I don’t care what you do, but I don’t have the desire to argue about it a lot.
@Comrade_Waluigi
Granted the game does have some pretty blatant design stealing in places, but hopefully the devs are able to bounce back and make something else.
@KinZaibatsu91
That side kind of saved Hanako for me because her joke was beginning to wear thin but then John Nexon said “nah don’t worry she’s actually a really cool character”
You know I think it’s really funny how people complain about same face with some mangaka’s when Go Nagai just said “Koji Kabuto but with huge tits” when making Cutie Honey, and she revolutionized the industry.
@DrGodotnik

South Park is popular in Japan but that show is so fucking absurd I can see why, there’s a real love for absurdist and off the wall humor in Japan, but Boondocks is largely about the culture of a minority group in America that Japan doesn’t often come in contact with.
Sub fans: “Subs are better! It’s more authentic and those English voices are terrible!”
Dub fans: “You don’t even speak Japanese, what do you know!?”
People who can actually understand Japanese:

@TwoMoonKing
There’s apparently a moment where he manages to use the Shun Goku Satsu and the kanji that appears on his back is “父” or father.
He really loved his dad.
@Tylerpilled
@HandsomecatJ
@ginfantasy
Common phenomenon nowadays. You can’t just dislike someone. You have to wish they’re some sort of sexual predator or criminal in order to feel “justified”
@JJGoldFalcon
Yeah you could call those shows mecha. If the robots are a focus, it could be considered a mecha show. America’s even made a few.
Why do you act as if it being mecha is something that should be avoided.
@Dont_panic749
@Trey_Explainer
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of cynicism, The Critic also had a fair bit of cynicism, but it was also written by people who clearly did genuinely love movies and TV, and the cynicism came from a place of concern.
I keep seeing that character Firefly, and everyone keeps calling them a Kamen Rider reference, but their actual transformation device, and story, and even the armor design, reminds me way more of Tekkaman Blade. At least based on what I’ve gathered.
@Srirachachau
To be fair making celebs look like freaks was the thing back then.
We need this nowadays. We don’t get freaky celebrity caricatures anymore and that’s sad.
I don’t think this person has any idea that “anime”has been a thing since the 40’s and Nintendo, and really lots of Japanese devs in the 80’s most definitely drew from that.
@Unsure_Shpee
@TwoMoonKing
Ah it’s “親父”
Means the same thing, but yeah. It tells you a lot about Dan that he’s still thinking of his father while under the influence of something like the Satsui No Hadou.
Imagine telling Korone to delete a joke tweet about that Sisyphus game just because she qrt’d someone with a pride flag emoji in their bio.
How sad do you have to be.
I don’t think all of them are ironic, like DDLC gets that rep, but there wasn’t any irony, just a meta story, but it is kind of weird how many devs seem to avoid simply playing a visual novel straight in the west.
- "How do you even know if this VN is 'ironic', you haven't even played it"
- "The marketing, it's a joke, they hate VNs"
- "Noone would put this much effort and money into a joke, why won't you play it"
- "BECAUSE WESTERN VISUAL NOVELS KILLED MY GRANDMA, OKAY?!"
I think looking at Japanese art as a way for Japan to “hide” their war crimes is not only cynical, but a bit racist. No one says Pixar is a way for America to hide its invasions of the Middle East for example.

@jammonanza
I kind of think this show is what Teen Titans Go should’ve been. A comedy superhero show hybrid rather than just trying to be comedy.
