Marcion's father was one of Jesus's 70 disciples. He was also a companion of the Apostle Paul and was consecrated as the Bishop of Sinope by Andrew the Apostle.
Marcion succeeded his father as the bishop and was a disciple of the Apostle John.

That was just the year that Marcion of Sinope was communicated from the Roman Church, but his own churches and teachings predate that by at least 2 decades.

They also purposefully mischaracterized Marcion's supposed theology to complicate things even further. Most of what Marcion is accused of believing is in no way supported by any reconstruction of his scriptural canon.
The difficulty of reconstructing Marcion’s gospel with precision is irrelevant to the question of Marcionite priority.
Marcion’s critics all thought his gospel obviously contradicted his theology. That strongly undermines the idea that he was a theologically motivated redactor.

We are not sure how any of this is "Hellenism." Nearly all Biblical scholars argue that the original and non-interpolated Epistles of Paul were the texts that Marcion of Sinope collected and transcribed. These are available on our website.

He didnt quote Luke *and* Matthew. He possibly alluded to verses that are parallel in both gospels.
There is a huge difference between hypothetical allusions & quotes with citations.
He was probably referencing a single, long gospel. The four-fold gospel came much later.

That was because Clement was quoting from memory, and did the same for all other quotations.
But very obviously, he was quoting from Matthew, Luke, Hebrews (potentially Revelation) and up to in total 13 books of the New Testament

What's the difference between your Bible and the one put out by the Marcionite Christian Church? I agree with most of Marcion's ideas, but it's hard to take you churches seriously if you can't get together. Christian hierarchical power struggles make no sense.

Augustine of Hippo claimed that Marcion baptized his converts “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
It would have been easier win Jews if we confessed only the Father as Divine. It would have been easier win Pagans if we turned the Persons into separate gods. Arian and Marcionite heretics did as much, but the Church confesses the Holy Trinity. Christ's🧵

I'm making my own orignial argument here: Jesus and his disciples only exist in a Hellenistic context. "The new testament" is just the impact of clearly Hellinistic beliefs on Roman Judea. See Paul's speech to the senate of Athens.

Marcion simply compiled, transcribed, and canonized the first Christian canon.
He didn't edit or write any of it.
Other early Christians who were not even 'Marcionite' used his canon.
Critics of Marcion like Tertullian, claim that Marcion removed text that did not match his theology. While also claiming that he failed to remove "obviously pro-Jewish statements" & even in his reconstruction he errored. I do not find this convincing. I believe that (part 1/?)
